The Wand Makes the Wizard:
A guide to picking out the right wand

The wand makes the wizard (or witch), or rather the wizard makes the wand. However you see it, a wand is a tool you need to master magic. It harness the power of magic into one spell, unlocks the potential inside all of us. Now, you just need to know where and how your wand will be made.

The length of the wand matters on your physical form actually. Like the giant Hagrid, his wand was unusually long while short peoples’ wands will be short. If your fingers and long, then the wand will be slender and long. If your soul is twisted, your wand’s wood will be splitter and twisted in places.

Wands can also be passed down by family members as the magical signature is close to the original owner. As a wizard and witch grows up and their personality and life changes, so does their wand. Once the old wand does not function all that much, then it is time to get a replacement wand. Your actions speak for the wand.

The Types of Wood

The types of the wood most common in wand making are Ash, Willow, Maple, and Walnut. The uncommon ones are Mahogany, Birch, Yew, Rosewood, and Cherry. The rare type of woods made for wands Hornbeam, Hawthorn, Blackthorn, Chestnut, Elder, Holly, and Vine. These wand types are not picked due to how great the wizard or witch is or will become. It is usually (not always) when they are born under the Celtic calendar. Other nations will use other calendars to determine the wood of the wand. But English wizarding provinces normally use the Celtic calendar.

Birch: December 24 to January 20
Rowan: January 21 to February 17
Ash: February 18 to March 17
Alder: March 18 to April 14
Willow: April 15 to May 12
Hawthorn: May 13 to June 9
Oak: June 10 to July 7
Holly: July 8 to August 4
Hazel: August 5 to September 1
Vine: September 2 to September 29
Ivy: September 30 to October 27
Reed: October 28 to November 24
Elder: November 25 to December 22

Wand Cores and Magical Properties

Now once a wand wood is chosen, the core is the main key to being a true wizard and witch. The core of the wand is like the soul of the wizard and witch. It represents your true nature, skills, and intentions. Nearly everything can be converted into a magical core but only the best get picked to be unstoppable wands.

Phoenix Feather – Very magical properties as it can strengthen the spell.
Dragon Heartstring –Those that like to hex will find it easy to with this core.
Unicorn Tail – The pure of heart will find this core easy to use.
Leprechaun Hair – Somewhat temperamental to Non-Irish but perfect for offensive spells.
Demiguise Hair – Best used in Transfiguration spells.
Hippogriff Talon – Channels the spell when dealing in Charms.
Runespoor Fang – This core tends to lean towards Dark Magic uses.
Hair from the Mane of a Kelpie – Can be used as any type of spell.
Chimaera Scale – Very rare (and expensive) core but it will make spells ten times stronger.
Ashwinder Ash – It makes protection charms easily and give it more strength. Also good for potion makers.
Peacock Feathers-Core that is used in mostly wands of Medi-witches.
Scales of a Basilk-A very deadly scale that is perfect for curses and hexes.
Griffin feather-A light core that is superb for defense spells/
Werewolf Tooth-A core that is used mostly for Potion makers.

This wand guide was made by Triguntri at RPG-Directory.
