Connie wasn't quite sure where she was going. Jesse was following her, of that much she was certain, but for what cause? It's not as if she snuck out of her house for an entire week, spent her birthday entangled in her boyfriend's arms and then lied about all of it. Well, Gabe and Jesse didn't know that she lied. They knew she was acting suspicious, that much was certain, but they couldn't know about Cailean.
Could they?
Her fingers lingered on the necklace Cai bought her as she pushed through the crowd. The necklace, a small garnet in a solitaire setting, has remained unacknowledged thus far. Gabe didn't notice it when he was screaming at her, she wasn't wearing it when she talked to Jesse, it was special. And it was yet another secret she possessed.
Perhaps she was being overdramatic when it came to the necklace and Cai. Her family would be happy for her right? He didn't buy her a ring, he didn't get down on one knee and propose. He gave her a birthday present. It was nothing more than a birthday present. Then why did she feel like it was more? Maybe because of what happened afterwards, it wasn't an exactly chaste situation.
Turning another corner, Connie leaned against the side of the building. She'd stay here for a few minutes, she decided, to make sure she got Jesse off her trail.
