Charlotte felt so awkward in the small shop. She couldn't risk to go outside in the rain, though, so she accepted the shop worker's offer and sat in front of the fireplace, in the corner of the shop. Her clothes were soaking wet and she was wearing no coat. It wouldn't be that hard to buy one, but Lottie preferred to spend the money to buy the children new clothes. Besides, spring would arrive in a few weeks, so she didn't want to waste money on thicker clothes.

It was rather cozy, there under the roof of the Owl Emporium, which made Lottie feel even guiltier. The shop worker was so kind with her and she still was not there to buy! Lottie would happily buy an owl if she actually needed it for something. She had no relatives outside of Hogsmeade, so there was nobody to send letters to. If she needed to send a letter to someone, Lottie used the owls of the post office.

" Could you please keep an eye on Frosty?" the shop worker asked her as she put a cage with a small, snow white owl next to her. Lottie nodded quietly, it was the smallest thing she could do for the kind woman.

The girl leaved the shop and Lottie turned her eyes to the owl, who seemed incredibly calm. If the girl had enough money, she would concider buying the animal. Only the sound of the door opening made Lottie remove her eyes from the bird. " The worker is gone in the moment, but you could wait for her here." Lottie announced to the customer.

Etiquette is the science of living
Lettie was on the way to the house of her newest student, an obstinate nineteen year old who seemed determined to embarrass her family with her poor discipline and tendency to speak out of turn. She had seen a fair number of girls with similar failings and had flawlessly put the fear of Morgan Le Fay in them. There was perhaps nothing quite as satisfying as conquering unruly behavior and restoring good grace and decorum to those who had either strayed from it or never found it in the first place but she was a firm believer that inside every girl, no matter how savage or wild they may seem, was the ability for them to behave and even become a lady. She hadn't been in the profession for as long as some but she had a knack and a ruthless will of iron.

Walking - as apparition was not possible for her current destination - she felt a few drops of water and was quick to realize that rain was starting. The warning drops were almost immediately superseded by a sudden release from the sky, heavy, fast flowing drops of water hammering down from the sky. It was only ten in the morning and by the ominous gray clouds above, Letitia was certain there would be little chance of sunshine that day.

The Owl Emporium being the nearest building, she thought she would seek shelter there from the rain. Give it perhaps, a half hour in the hope that it might slow a little before braving it. Opening the door, she slipped inside and felt instantly grateful for the cozy warmth of the Owl Emporium and the sheltering roof over her head.

The sound of a young girl's voice instantly reminded Lettie that it would be terribly rude to simply use the little shop as a shelter and not buy anything! Perhaps she could find something small to buy for her own owl... Though of course the girl said the woman working there was currently unavailable which was a perfectly good excuse to stay longer. Luckily, she was one to leave for appointments early and so was almost never late so she had plenty of time before she had to be at her student's house. "Thank you, I believe I shall indeed wait." Resigning herself to waiting in the warm shop patiently, she reached into a pocket of her cloak for a couple letters she had received that morning but not yet read, she pulled them out. There were three letters instead of two; one of them seemingly stuck to the wax seal on the back of the other. Tugging them apart, it seemed one was not addressed to her at all. Did she sneak a peek at it as was polite or give into the bubbling curiosity? Her good sense and breeding told her the former was unacceptable. Looking at the script on the outside of the parchment, she deduced that it was intended for someone by the name of 'Miss Waldorf'. Well, she had no idea who that was.

Taking a few steps closer to the young woman, she gave her a friendly smile. "You wouldn't happen to know of a Miss Waldorf, would you?"

Lottie threw a quick glance towards the woman who had entered the shop, but she didn't stare at her for too long, since it would be too rude to do so. The woman didn't seem to want to buy anything, so the young witch could only guess that she was in the shop for the same reason as her: find shelter from the rain. It was funny that they lived in a magical world and yet, nobody had invented some umbrella spell. It would make life so much easier.

She raised her head at the woman's quiestion and looked at the envelope's in her hand. Shaking her head slowly, she muttered, " No, I've never heard of a Miss Waldorf." Lottie was never the social type, so she didn't know many Hogsmeade residents, despite the fact that she lived there for quite a long time. Most of the people she knew were from Hogwarts. Even if Lottie had some friends in the school she had lost communication with them after education. Most of them were probably married and she certainly didn't want to interrupt their happiness.

" Why?" Lottie asked the woman a few seconds after. If this Miss Waldorf was so important to the woman then she could help her search for her. A worker of one of the local shops probably knew this particular lady.

Lettie was disappointed to hear she had not but reasoned that she really ought not to have been surprised. "I have been sent a letter addressed to such a lady by mistake and I must oversee that it is delivered to the correct person." She glanced down at the letter again as if to confirm she had gotten the name right. She had. It was a shame indeed that the young girl did not know the woman in question.

Perhaps she ought to simply send it back to the person whose letter to her it had mistakenly been sent with and now that she thought about it, it seemed the best idea of all. "I shall simply send it back, it shall find it's way to Miss Waldorf more efficiently that way." She smiled to herself, "There, problem solved, I believe." Still feeling the need to purchase something from the store for the mere fact she was using it as shelter from the weather. "I don't suppose you are employed here, are you?"

" Maybe you could take it to the Post Office, I am sure they could fix this mistake." Lottie suggested to the woman, after she gave her own suggestions. Lottie never really received letters, so she didn't even know where the post office excactly was. All of Lottie's friends lived in Hogsmeade, so she didn't really have to send them letters. Besides, she couldn't afford to pay for parchments and ink when her siblings were starving.

" No." Charlotte replied kindly. " The employee saw me in the rain and told me to seek shelter in the shop. " she confessed, feeling rather ashamed of that fact. She knew that other shop-keepers would kick her out of their shop if she dared to enter simply to protect her clothes for the rain. She wished she had some money, so she could buy something, but she didn't need an owl and, certainly she couldn't buy treats for owls if she didn't own one.

The post office. Yes, that was probably the best idea! Why hadn't she thought of it first? No matter, it had been suggested and Lettie would do just that! "Yes! The Post Office is an even better idea," she paused and was then aware they had not yet exchanged acquaintance. "Who may I have the pleasure of making the acquaintance of?" she asked, something authoritative about her voice though it was more out of habit than anything intentional.

Ordinarily, Letitia would likely have criticized the young girl's actions of seeking shelter in a shop with no intention of buying anything but she was no hypocrite and couldn't possibly criticize when she herself had done the very same thing, though she intended to make a small purchase out of courtesy when someone who worked there returned. It was quite neglectful of them to have abandoned the shop in the first place! "I don't suppose you know the whereabouts of the owl feed, do you?" she asked curiously, her eyes roaming over the shelves but finding it difficult to tell one object from the next owl due to the darkness of the room. Owls, owls, owls, objects, objects, owls... It was impossible.

" Miss Charlotte Tribble." Lottie introduced herself to the woman with a quiet but polite voice. The brunette seemed to belong to an upper class, though her clothes didn't seem fancy enough to belong in the wardrobe of an upper class lady. Charlotte, though, who owned few dresses made by cheap fabrics concidered even this modest cream coloured dress fancy. Linda would surely love to possess such dress. Many slum girls would love to wear such dress just for a couple of hours.

Charlotte did not have the opportunity to examine the shop, since she was not planning to buy something. She felt guilty that the shop-keeper had given her shelter and yet she didn't even buy something from the shop. Maybe she could buy some sort of treat or decoration. The ruined room she and her siblings shared needed some beauty anyway. She could even buy a smaller and cheaper cage for Bernard to put the animals he found around the streets everyday. " I do not, but I suppose they are somewhere at the back of the shop?" she suggested, turning her eyes to the direction she had just mentioned.

The dress the young girl was clad in was enough for Lettie to tell she was no of the upper class but whether she was lower class or lower middle class was slightly more difficult to tell. She didn't speak like a slum rat in so much as a rough, uneducated, lacking in diction sort of manner and nor did she seem lacking in manners. At least not yet anyhow. She retracted the thought at the first mistake; the young girl had not asked in return who she was which could only indicate an absence of thorough etiquette discipline and education. "It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Miss Tribble. I am Mrs. Swift." It was all very polite and by the book as mostly everything Letitia did was.

Lettie turned her gaze toward the back of the store as the young Miss Tribble had indicated might be the location of what she was seeking. "I see. Thank you very much for your help, Miss Tribble." Letitia gave the girl a polite smile and wandered off in the direction of the back of the shop where she spent a maximum of five minutes looking before selecting some and readying it for purchase in the little brown paper bags situated alongside the owl feed containers. Now to wait for the shopkeeper. Letitia walked back over to the girl, the paper bag clutched tightly in her hand. "I wonder where the shopkeeper could have vanished to... How very careless of them to have left the place unattended."

" I am pleased to meet you, Mrs Swift." Lottie replied as she watched the woman walk towards the back of the shop. The shop-keeper was gone for way too long now and Lottie was afraid that she would have to spend her whole day in the shop until the shop-keeper returned. It would surely be really rude of her to just vanish after this woman showed her so much kindness. The shop-keeper was surely somewhere nearby and Lottie tried to comfort herself by thinking that she was probably on her way to the shop.

" I do hope she returns soon, I can not spend my whole day here and I can't just leave the shop un-guarded after they showed me so much kindness." Lottie commented, looking nonchalantly out of the window. The rain had almost stopped, even if raindrops were still falling on the muddy street. A few people were walking down the previously busy street and, oh, Lottie was sure that one of them was the sho-keeper!

Seconds after, a woman entered the shop and judging by the condition of her appearance, she had probably spent her time running around the bad weather. " I hope you excuse me. My cousin needed me and I had no time to close the shop. Oh, we have a customer." the woman spoke and then turned towards Mrs Swift.

Lottie was not sure what to do. She didn't own an owl and she certainly didn't need one, but she figured that she could use some of the things sold in the shop. Like that big thing which looked like a toy. Maybe her little niece could use it as a toy.

Lettie followed the young girl's line of vision out the window and was pleased to see that the rain was no longer as violent as it had been when she had first wandered into the shop. She would be able to leave soon and make her way over to her pupil's home. If she waited much longer, however, she would make a poor impression in being tardy and that was by no means a good thing for her reputation and her reputation was of the utmost importance. Her reputation earned her employment and without employment, there would be no extra income.

By some miraculous stroke of luck, the shopkeeper returned shortly after and Lettie was most relieved. "Thank you for your assistance," she remarked politely to Charlotte, giving her a corodial smile. With that, she went about purchasing the small bag of owl feed which she slipped into her bag before swiftly departing. She had somewhere to be and now that the rain had let up, she could get there without the fear of turning up looking like a sopping wet dog - that would certainly not have made a good impression.

Charlotte decided to buy one small toy and then walked out of the shop, a few minutes after the woman left. She was curious to see her little niece's eyes once she gave her to toy. She couldn't afford real toys to the child, such as beautiful dolls and doll-houses, but she could at least play with the newly bought toy, even if it was meant for an animal.

Lottie regretted she had worn such a light coloured dress. Even if she tried to by careful, her dress became wet and dirty soon. At least she knew the right spells to make it clean again.
