It had been too long

since Jorah had last stood here,

in the forest glade.

He knew without doubt,

it was all the more lovely

shared with his lover.

From his shirt pocket,

he withdrew a shining ring,

and his pulse quickened.

"Linaeve, my love-"

he spoke, falling to his knees,

"Will you marry me?"

Woods surrounded them

and she could not help but feel

a sense of freedom.

For so long, they fought

the ties of society;

now their lives were theirs.

Lina had yet to pay

heed to Leander's ring which

shined in the dim light.

Jorah, then, surprised

her by going on one knee.

"Don't you know?" she grinned

"I already have.

Being here with you makes me

feel more loved than he

ever made me feel."

It was then she noticed Lee's

upon her hand.

"Oh" she spoke sadly.

"I forgot I still had his

ring on. I'm sorry."

Standing here, head bowed

looking into her bright eyes,

Jorah was at peace.

When her clear voice rang

through the canopy of leaves,

he sighed his relief.

"I love you,", he breathed,

as the birds sang in the trees,

"More than I can say."

And he was happy

until, then, he saw the ring.

"It's his, isn't it?"

Jorah's breath came fast,

and he smiled weakly.

"You won't take it off."

The words were certain,

not a question, but a fact

and they stung like knives.

I love you, too." She

said. "I forgot I was wearing

it. It has not been

off my finger since

the wedding." Lina paused, not

sure how to go on.

His ring symbolized

so much: everything she used

to be, all that was.

"No, Jorah, I will.

But I won't get rid of it."

She hoped he'd get it.

So unexpected-

how could he ever forget

Leander's diamond?

But it had been there,

as long as he could recall,

lurking out of sight.

"Do you love him, too?"

he asked, dreading the answer.

"Is that why you don't

want to part with it?"

Did she not want to let go?

Did she now regret her choice?

It felt like a punch

that knocked the wind out of him.

Was she saying...no?

How could she be so

bloody stupid? Leander's

ring. His ring. His ring was

set on her finger.

How could she have forgotten?

"Yes - no. Yes. No. No.

He was my husband

for three years. I respect him.

And I may love you.

But he is not you.

Jorah - my love - I love you.

I am here with you.

Why is that not good

enough for you?" Lina stood

quietly waiting

for him to react.

She then slipped the ring off of

her slender finger

and stuck it in her

pocket. "There," she mumbled, "it's

gone. I'm yours only."

Dully, Jorah heard

the hesitance in her words,

the uncertainty.

Her answer was fair,

and her question fairer still,

yet still it stung him.

"I love you, Lina."

he repeated stoically.

"And-I understand."

The ring was removed,

but still he felt so restless,

moving through a fog.

She seemed so broken

so sad to part with that ring-

sad to part with Lee?

"You're sure you want this?"

he asked, brandishing the ring.

"You must be happy."

"You understand?"

She questioned him carefully.

'Clearly, you do not."

She stepped away from

him and refrained herself from

touching his tanned skin.

"I love you. I would

not be here if I did not.

If there was even

a chance that I loved

Leander, I would be back

in Hogsmeade. Not here."

"I'm afraid I don't"

Lina was complicated,

so hard to fathom.

Such comforting words,

spoken with such surety,

allayed Jorah's fears.

His smile was sunny

as the beams, filtering through

all the forest's trees.

"I'm sorry.", he said,

bashful, laughing at himself.

"Your answer-is yes?"

His voice hitched slightly,

anxious in spite of himself,

watching her light eyes.

"Yes, yes, a million

times over." She jumped up and

down, excitedly.

"Right here." she pointed

to the spot they were standing

on. "We will build our

house right here." Nothing

could take this moment away;

Things changed forever.
