Correct. Half-vampire bites are similar to human bites except they might be a little deeper (due to their slightly protuding fangs). They don't have the vampiric mutation gene, or whatever it is we want to call it. xD |

Something just occurred to me. Half-vampires. Bites do nothing, right? The only way they'd kill is if they drained a person past survivable blood loss. None of the whatever it is that makes vampire bites incurable. |

^ Agreed.
I imagine they could drink from animals or even people from the slums. I can see people selling their blood to vampires as well - in viles or some such thing - similar to how prostitutes sell their bodies. |

I'm really not sure about the first part, but I'd assumed that it was possible for a wizard-turned-vampire to perform magic with a wand. Just, y'know, illegal.
|
Why is it illegal?
|
Because those classified as non-human beings are banned from using wands. Code of Wand Use, Clause 3, passed in 1631. Even though vampires are officially classed as "part-humans", they are also classed as "non-wizards", which for these purposes places them in the same category as goblins and house elves. Unless you're asking for the canon/IC reasoning behind it being illegal ... which is just bigotry. But yeah, the way I've understood things, Marcello would be capable of using a wand (but is legally prohibited) and for Miranda it would just be a stick. |

Well reasoned. :)

Lol, well, I pretty much never saw a reason that they shouldn't be able to use magic ... and why forbid an object if it is useless? Certainly vampires are considered "non-wizard part humans," but lots of non-wizards are capable of using wands -- like goblins and house elves. However, it's illegal and the punishment is severe. |

ugh, now I have a question.
to quote the non-human info post:
| QUOTE | | Vampire bites are incurable and will result in said person being bit either dying or turning into a vampire themselves. |
If this is the case, then how do they gain sustenance without either killing a ton of people (thus not making the ministry very happy) or making a bunch of vampires (...same)? I assume they have to drink reasonably often, and I'm sure most aren't of the 'animal blood' variety. Does this mean to drink human blood they'd have to like, cut them with a knife and just lap it like a dog, or... ?
Also, can vampires that were wizards still use magic if they have a wand?

| QUOTE | Vampires function as individuals and mostly leave each other alone. There doesn't need to be a leader, because there is no society. Either they travel (alone or in clans/families) or they live in one place for as long as possible (again alone or in clans/families). If there is a disagreement between two individuals, they talk it out or fight it out. If it gets larger than that, then other vampires intercede out of pure self-preservation because it's a very bad thing for them if the ministry gets involved. I don't see them needing, wanting, or tolerating this sort of structure.

^ This is how it is for vampires here.
| QUOTE | They way I've been assuming with Marcello is that they're more or less independent-- some of them stay wild while others try to conform. The only direct line of 'authority' would be the bloodline, e.g. who turned who. For instance, Marcello might feel compelled/obligated to do whatever his maker wished of him, but she hasn't asked anything of him, so he's free to do as he likes. I imagine some vampires turn others to create underlings or companions, and some might abuse these ties, but not all have those interests. Older vampires probably expect respect from younger ones, and not all of them are willing to give it. The ones that try to integrate with wizards obviously are required to follow wizarding law. Killing humans left and right probably won't stand regardless of how the vampire stands. |
^ As well as this.
If we were to have a prince and a hierarchy and all that, it could get a lot more complicated. Plus, we would have to make the prince a canon and then worry about keeping him an active character and whatnot. (It would sort of be the same issue we've been having with the headmaster, since he's off and on active. It's hard to get threads/plots with him, etc.)
It was a very good suggestion Penny. ^^
