Title: Sweet Child of Mine
Description: open; see inside

OOC: This thread is open to the Page household, close (known) relatives, and friends of the family (such as Daniel Riley). If more than two people join, there will be no posting order ... just be polite about not taking over the thread, okay?
As exhausted as she was by the delivery of her seventh child that morning, by early afternoon Hermia had managed to arrange herself on her fainting couch in the parlor with a blanket over her legs and the cradle holding the newest (and currently sleeping) addition to the Page family in easy reach. Little Aliena Anne -- Lena -- was curled up tightly in her swaddling blanket, but Mia felt a need to introduce her to the family as soon as possible. There was no time like the present -- and this way if she got tired she could chase people out by claiming it was time for tea.
She just wished that Alex could have been here, waiting outside the room where she had given birth as he had been for all their other children. With the adoption of Ali earlier in the year, there were eight of them now, ranging from Emilia with her blossoming maternal nature down to this newest little one. Motherhood agreed with Hermia so much that she could not imagine any other life for herself ... but becoming a mother once again was certainly exhausting.

Allison was rather excited that Hermia gave birth to another child. She always wanted her own mother to have more children, a pair of a boy and a girl so both she and Edward would have someone to play with. She wanted to have many siblings, four or five of them. It seemed funny that after she lost her biological family, she had more siblings she could wish for. Allison, though, still could not feel as part of the family, even if everyone treated her so well.<p>
She shyly walked in the room, looking at her feet and hoping that Lorenzo or Hermione would soon join them. She tried to be as quiet as possible, the baby was sleeping and she didn't want to disturb it. Aliena Anne was her own sister now, and, for some reason, Ali felt closer to her than the other Page children, despite the fact that she didn't spend that much time with the baby. One thing she was sure about was that she wanted to keep her safe and be a good older sister. She would never allow any of her new siblings end up like Edward.

<p>Hermione had been waiting outside all day-in reality, it had probably been a mere few hours, though it was impossible to tell that to her-and was desperate to get inside and see her mommy, and her new baby sister. Once she was finally ushered inside, Hermione was a little grumpy for the simple fact that it had taken so long-but the feeling soon faded in lieu of her excitement.<p>
<p>Hesitantly, she approached her mother's side. It had been some time since she had last seen a newborn baby, and she could remember very little of the day when Dorcas had been born; in fact, nothing stood out in her mind except the chaos of the morning, and the candy that all of the children were treated to afterward.<p>
<p>Now, squinting curiously into the face of this new child, Hermione was intrigued. It was sort of squishy looking in her opinion, and very pink; was this what she had looked like when she was born? A part of her wanted to poke the new baby to see how she would react, but Hermione only just managed to bite back the instinct; she had a vague feeling that it probably wouldn't be appreciated very much.<p>

Hermia smiled up at her daughters standing quietly around their new baby sister. "Girls, this is Aliena -- Lena," she said quietly, not wanting to wake up the baby. The small, pink, wrinkled infant shifted in her swaddling and made a small happy sound, then settle back to sleep.
She stayed quiet for another moment after that; she wanted to let the girls develop their own opinions of their new sister. She new better at this point than to try to force the matter; easing things in slowly worked better. Even if the didn't like Lena now, they'd come around eventually.

She took a big breath and then walked slowly towards Hermia and Hermione. She was quiet, she did not want to make a sudden noise which would make the baby wake up. That would probably make Hermia angry and Allison did not want th make her new mother angry.<p>
She examined the baby's face quietly, trying to memorize its face. She looked just like all the other babies, but Ali figured that her sister's face would change soon. " Aliena is a pretty name." she commented with a whisper, rather afraid that it would make the baby wake up. The baby's name was much better than hers. Allison. Still, Ali felt guilty to think that way. Her parents had picked that name and it would be a shame if she didn't like it.

<p>Hermione thought the baby's new name-Aliena, she thought her mother had said, or something to that affect, anyway-sounded pretty on Hermia's lips, but presented quite a challenge when she tried to repeat it for herself. The alternative, Lena, would just have to do until she had gotten used to it. Since the baby was so small, Hermione decided that she probably wouldn't mind an awful lot if her name was shortened a bit, for the sake of convenience; after all, babies did little more than cry and drool at this age, and it wasn't as though she would be capable of raising a protest. Proudly, Hermione reflected on how far she had come, and thought firmly that she, surely, had never been like that.<p>
<p>"How long will it be until Lena can play games?" she asked curiously, still peering into her new sister's eyes rather uncertainly.<p>

Letting Ali hide in the shadows if she wanted, Mia kept an eye on her adopted daughter while she focused on Hermione. "Well, Minny, it will be a few months until she can start to play, and even longer until she can run around like you. Right now she just needs to eat a lot and sleep a lot while she gets a bit bigger."
