Appearance:
Levi stands at a petite five feet even, though on some days she swears that she’s five one. Her weight is equally small, hovering around ninety eight pounds even after she’s eaten. Levi has been tormented in the past about her weight and her lack of feminine curves, but has recently begun to love herself and her body the way it is. Like many Jews, she has brown hair, but her eyes are a blueish green that is atypical of most Jews. Although extremely thin and hardly curvaceous, Levi enjoys fashion and likes to look her best, even when she’s not wearing the best.
History:
On the day of her birth, something went wrong. It was told to Levi’s parents, proud David and Leah, that their baby was a boy. Ecstatic, they chose to name the baby Levi Aaron. A midwife, who didn’t know that the Rosenthal’s didn’t know the proper gender of their child, was a bit offended by the name they chose for their beautiful baby girl, but didn’t question their choice, as they were Jews and Jews often did strange things. She had assumed that they knew their baby was a girl and actively chose to give her a male name. It wasn’t until several hours later, when Leah was changing her baby for the first time, that she noticed her baby was a girl, not a boy. By that point, the midwife had left and David and Leah knew that their daughter was to be named Levi for the rest of her life.

All wasn’t bad, however. Levi was a relatively decent baby. She cried as most babies did, but she was neither colicky, nor overly fussy. Her parents quickly learned that when she wouldn’t go to sleep, if they rocked her or walked with her in her pram she would drift to sleep and stay asleep for longer than most parents could ever dream of hoping for. David and Leah knew they were blessed.

When Levi was four years old, her mother gave birth to another baby, a[n actual] little boy to be named Daniel. Levi had been asking her parents for a baby brother or baby sister over and over again, incessantly, and she was delighted to finally have one around. Levi jumped into action, helping take care of her baby brother whenever she could. It was apparent from the start that Levi would be wonderful around the house, and she had proven to be an invaluable asset once her baby brother was born. Quick to do as she was told, Levi would do chores around the house, help get dinner ready, keep her room clean, put her toys away, etc. whenever it was asked of her. She even helped her father organize his papers when he needed the help. After all, having a baby was extremely exhausting and time consuming. As the sole breadwinner of the family, David needed all the help he could get.

During the times that Levi wasn’t needed around the house, she was being tended to by her maternal grandparents. Her maternal grandmother often read to Levi, histories more than anything. In the Rosenthal household, faerie tales weren’t often told. The family was far too practical for things of the sort, and so Levi had an early start, learning about the way s of the world. Her maternal grandfather also read to Levi, but he had been a lawyer for the Ministry of Magic in his day, so it was he who helped Levi understand the way the world worked, the way that legal systems worked and it was he who ensured that she always understood what sort of punishments came from certain crimes.

Not that Levi needed the subconscious threat. She was as easy of a toddler and young child as she had been baby.

Life continued as such for their family. Levi learned to read at an early age, could write at an early age, everything she did was earlier than most kids. With her desire to continually learn new things, Levi helped herself by tagging along with her mother or her grandparents while they ran errands, often times begging for books when they passed the book store. Appreciative she was begging for books instead of toys and candy, her family members always gave in. The books she read weren’t children’s books- they weren’t fables and tales of princesses and enchantments. Levi read histories of her own country and of countries far away. She learned about governments and religions, ones considered ‘right’ and ones considered ‘wrong.’ Levi couldn’t know enough about anything, and always craved to know more. She wanted to know simply everything there was to know about everything, though she understood even at a young age that there’s so much out there it would be hard to know it all.

By the time Levi was eight, she was the family resource when they wanted to know something about their own country, or another country. She had learned everything possible and had read every single book she could get her hands on regarding history, government, politics, legislature and religion. Not only had she read them all, she had understood them all. It was about time that she turned to more practical things- the maths and sciences. While taking breaks from her readings about math and science, about Socrates and Galileo and Plutarch and Plato, Levi would read about history and government and religion to her brother. She wanted him to be as knowledgeable and informative as she was.

Although it would seem that for a halfblooded family with one muggle parent, it would come as a shock to learn about the magical world. However, David had known when he married Leah that she came from a different world than he, and that any children they would have could possibly be part of that world, as well. David understood, shockingly enough. When Levi’s letter from Hogwarts arrived, no one was surprised. In fact, even David was delighted that his daughter would be able to balance between two different worlds.

Leah introduced the family to Diagon Alley through the back entrance from the Leaky Cauldron. They took Levi around, purchasing robes, a cauldron, books and other assorted items necessary for her Hogwarts attendance. She was gifted with an owl and, as the last purchase of the day a beautiful wand. It was a wand most unlike any other. Pale oak wood, nine inches in length, with a powdered unicorn horn core. She had no idea if there were any others like it- the wand maker wouldn’t tell her. Levi left that day with a feeling of excitement and wonder, a feeling she had never felt from her own life before. The only time she had ever felt that before was when she was starting a new book about government or science or whatever it was she was studying at the time.

When she arrived at Hogwarts, Levi was sorted into Ravenclaw. The hat had instantly picked up on her intelligence, which it had noted to Levi was far beyond anyone it had seen, but it had picked up on the depth of her love and her loyalty, as well. She could’ve fit well into either Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff, but in the end Levi’s extreme intelligence and her desire to know everything and always learn more lead to her final placement into Ravenclaw.

Ravenclaw turned out to be a perfect fit for Levi, or so she thought. From her perspective, Hufflepuff would have forced her to be far more social than she was comfortable being; Levi already knew by this point that she wasn’t exactly the most acceptable person to being out into public. Her immense knowledge base often frightened others and she got irritable when her peers didn’t understand what she was saying because she often spoke in technical terms. After a few short weeks, Levi discovered that the library was an asylum for her, a place where she could do what she did best and no one would think anything less of her for it. Very little of her time was spent on homework, as school came easily to her and she received perfect grades on everything she did with little effort. Only a small portion of her remaining time was spent helping the few people she called friends with their homework. The rest, and a big majority of her time was spent doing what Levi had always done- reading and learning and immense amount of things about innumerable topics.

School continued to be more than just ‘easy’ for Levi, and she received perfect marks in every class. Professors were both awed and bored by her, some perhaps even tinged with jealousy and envy when she would turn in papers stating things that even they didn’t know. Nothing lead her to be extraordinary though, and Levi always believed herself to be nothing above merely average. Her third year, however, things took a turn for the worst. People began to bully Levi due to her male name, the fact she was Jewish (despite the fact that Jews were now openly welcome in society as people of worth and note), her exceptional level of intelligence and her body. She was smaller than most of the other kids her age, even the girls, and extremely thin. When everyone hit puberty, it seemed to shy away from Levi and she remained small and perhaps too thin. When puberty finally hit Levi, she was still nothing exceptional. By the time she was seventeen, Levi had reached a max height of five feet even, and her weight had not once hit one hundred pounds. She remained boxy figured with nothing more than little bee stings for breasts, and was often teased for her lack of a shapely body. Even corsets couldn’t help her.

Once she graduated from Hogwarts, Levi went off to work for the ministry as a welcome witch. It would seem that no department in particular wanted her services (as she felt she could lend a hand nearly everywhere, she had applied nearly everywhere) and that the ministry was in need of another welcome witch. She took the position, not wanting to seem ungrateful for the fact that they had even offered her a position in the first place. She worked there, reorganizing their system and keeping everything painfully up to date and in order. It wasn’t until May of 1881, when she had been working for nearly a year at the ministry, that someone recognized and appreciated her talents.

Newly appointed minister, Darcy Potter, asked specifically for Levi to become his secretary. They had been friends of a sort in school- he didn’t laugh at her or make fun of her, and she therefore helped him whenever he needed it. Darcy had made his way onto Levi’s short list of people she would always put before herself. When she was asked to be his secretary, Levi leapt at the opportunity and hasn’t regretted the decision.

Personality:
ORGANIZED: Levi has a need and a desire to keep everything organized. In today’s world, people would assume that she has OCD of some form or another, but that really isn’t the case. Levi’s desire to be neat and organized comes strictly from the fact that it’s easier to find information when it’s organized by date and in alphabetical order. She has translated this organization into her entire life, keeping certain dresses in certain areas of her armoire and lining them all up in color order. She works in an efficient and methodical manner, ensuring that all of her time is used appropriately. If things are messy, it takes longer to find what she wants; the longer it takes to find what she wants, the less time she has to do what she wants to do. In Levi’s head, it all makes perfect sense.

SELF CONSIOUS: Despite what people have told her, Levi doesn’t think that she’s anything special. She’s overly aware of her faults, and of the fact that she tends to scare people away. Some days, she isn’t sure if it’s her personality or her intelligence that scares them away, but the fact of the matter is that she scares them away. It doesn’t matter why, but she does. Since she was small, people have often either ignored her, or paid attention to her and then were never to be heard from again. Levi believes that there’s something wrong with her, and is far too quick to pick up on any fault she might possess and too slow to noticed the silver lining in any situation she’s placed into.

SOCIALLY AWKWARD: Levi has never been able to interact with people her own age. She believes that this stems from the fact that she is so intelligent. Part of her just cannot stand talking with people who are not on her own intellectual level, as she needs to explain everything to them, but the other part of her just wants to be able to understand the average person. Being as smart as she is has come with the inability to understand and interact with people of average intelligence, as they don’t understand her and she’s never been able to “dumb down” her vocabulary. Levi’s extensive knowledge of other cultures and beliefs has given her forward thinking, something that has also played into her inability to act appropriately in Victorian England society. She doesn’t understand why women are looked down upon and for what reason people think them to be the more delicate gender. Due to this, she tends to continually act out of place and seemingly inappropriate for her gender.

INTELLIGENT: The sorting hat placed Levi in the perfect house. She is ridiculously intelligent, and though she is already nineteen years old, she is still as absorbent as a sponge, soaking up every piece of knowledge she can. Her ultimate dream is to be able to have a library in her home, filled with books upon books of information and stories. She has always enjoyed reading, and has learned more than her fair share of information from the amount of books she reads. During her school years, Levi chose to spend most of her time holed up in the library or her dorm room, reading. Although her grades were literally perfect and she could’ve been a prefect had it been based solely on grades, Levi unfortunately didn’t have the social connections to be able to be a prefect. Her inability to look people in the eye also played a part in the fact she wasn’t chosen as a prefect.

MODEST: No matter what people say about Levi – that she’s pretty, that she’s kind, that she’s loving, that she’s sweet – Levi simply doesn’t believe it. When she looks in the mirror, she sees someone who is merely average at everything, except with an abnormally high intelligence level and an abnormally low ability to function in society. She knows that she is pretty, kind, loving and sweet, but so what? There are hundreds of people in the world who are those things, and who are those things tenfold to Levi. Her accomplishments are nothing short of spectacular- graduating from Hogwarts with perfect grades straight through – but she continually down plays this accomplishment, as well as any and all others that people may bring up. To Levi, there’s always someone out there better than her.

LOVING: Of everything that Levi is, she is loving. Levi puts those whom she cares about before herself and she is completely selfless when it comes to them. Although she understands the importance of self preservation, Levi will give everything she possesses for those whom she cares about. Despite being completely, socially awkward, Levi knows how to be affectionate. She tends to give her affection to others in the form of motherly care, ensuring that those whom she cares about are taken after, well seen to and don’t have a care in the world. Much of this comes before making sure that the same is true for herself, but Levi knows when to stop. She refuses to take care of people whom she doesn’t know or doesn’t care about before making sure that she’s okay first.
