Ah, dont worry about it Preacher, no harm done really... I'm just sick of seing non-serious posts put in serious threads i've started. Hence the fact that UCG and Madhouse are the only two forums I post on now, all others seem to have been overrun by idiots...

Now where were we? -------------------- "An ending fitting for a start, you twist and tore our love apart. Your light fingers threw the dart, shattered the lamp and into the darkness you cast"

Celebrities have become societies new gods imo. They're worshipped, adored, obsessed over, you name it. Thing is, because it's society, and society is us, its up to us to change it. We have a good proportion of power at our hands, we just have to recognise what we have and how we can use it. I'm incredibly iffy with charities, and tend to donate to cancer charities more than anything else, mainly because that's something close to home. When my back is better, I'm aiming to get fit enough to do a sponsored walk of over 200 miles, cos I know I can make a difference, however small. Too many people want to piss and moan about the world and not do any bloody thing about it. We can do a lot, just in small doses. But if we all did it, we'd make a much bigger difference. Celebrities have a lot of power. I just wish they'd use it to make people more aware of important issues. As much as people slag Beckham off, he has done a lot for Kirsty whatsherface, so he's not all bad. -------------------- Any Dream worth having, is a Dream worth fighting for.

Yeah, Beckham's one of the good ones. He actually put a lot of the excessive wages he gets back into the community by setting up Kid's soccer schools and stuff..
The other misconception with footballers wages is, theyre getting all their wages in one lump between 18 and 30ish (when they can no longer play football), while we get wages throughout our lives... I'm not condoning their wagesat all, but i can see thats its not always abused... -------------------- "An ending fitting for a start, you twist and tore our love apart. Yeah that's true, as they justify their wages with the fact that they are pretty much unemployed (as a professional footballer) at least. I don't agree with their wages, but then again if I was that bothered, I'd do something about it.
What concerns me more are fat cat politicians, pharmaceutical companies and the like. They are the ones we should really be examining. As much as I'm not a big fan of footie or team sports, I do think it's great that Beckham and similar people are setting up such sports clubs for kids. Kids are becoming lazy and stupid imo, and they need to get more active. -------------------- Any Dream worth having, is a Dream worth fighting for.

That's exactly what I've been saying all this time! Its upto each and every one of us to do our own bit. Its like household chores...if everyone does their share, the work finishes off faster, letting everyone off early to do whatever they like (silly example but I was roped into housecleaning today )As for the soccer clubs and all being set up by people like Beckham, its a great thing. Not only does it stop kids from getting "stupid and lazy" ( ) it also gives them a good outlet for energy, thereby reducing the time those kids would spend on street corners planning out unprofitable activities. (Don't I sound like an old, spinster aunt )Re: the pharmaceutical companies. In times like these, when we have diseases like AIDS which are killing people by the millions, they are charging prices that only the very rich can afford. Yeah, I understand that R&D isnt cheap, but you're developing these drugs to save people's lives. Now that point is sort of lost if you're going to price the drug at such a price that the people who need it most, especially the people in Africa, can't afford it, what's the point of having a drug like that? Isnt all the R&D going to waste then? "Yes, we have made a drug which combats the illness AIDS but we're sorry, only the rich can afford it." Bah! |

But look at it this way, the poor will soon be dead. They wouldn't appreciate the benefits long denied them at any rate. We can't start feeding them and seeing to their illnesses. They might ask for equal right! I won't have any of that. They might...wan't to sit next to me on the metro! Revolting creatures.
