FORUM GUIDELINES

Here you will find pretty much anything you need to know to go about joining and participating at Tokyo Magic Academy - refer here if you are confused about something, if you don't find it here post your question in the appropriate area ;) Also all underlined text in this section indicates a link to the corresponding area for your convenience!

Also if you are ever confused with any Role-Playing Termonology used here at TMA, please refer here, we do not use all of these terms but this is a good guide!

GENERAL RULES:
Yes all Forums must have Rules so hear are ours:

* Respect all Admins, Mods, and Members!

* Be respectful of others' feelings as they will be to you, this is a place to get away from the stresses of real life and to have fun and be creative!

* This is a 'TV-Mature' RPG - we do not promote or endorse: excesive violence, profanity (we do not use the F-word here), gratuitous nudity, or abuse of any kind. Though within the RP events do occur that are of a fantastical and complex background and sometimes do have a violent nature. Warnings in the 'Topic Description' line will be added to these posts if they are not posted in the Mature Area.

* Please follow all rules, we expect our members when they join to create their character and begin RPing - do not join if you do not plan on participating. To Join please follow the steps in 'Join TMA Here!.' (Reading these Forum Guidelines is the first step :))

* You MUST read the 'Tokyo Magic Academy' background info before you create a character etc.!

* All new members have 10 days from the day they register to add their Character Profile in 'Step 3. Post Your Character.' If they do not their account will be suspended into the 'Wanderers' category. If this happens to you please PM ThE AsHwEE to unsuspend you.

SPECIFIC FORUM RULES:
(Don't freak out at the length :) These are just specifics to help you!)

JOINING ~ MEMBER RULES:

* Please follow all rules, especially when joining, we expect our members, when they join, to create their character and begin RPing - Please do not join if you do not plan on participating!

* In addition to the above you must make at least one roleplaying post within the first month of adding your member profile, or your account will be deleted.

* If you are going to be gone for an extended amount of time due to work/school/illness/etc. just post in the 'Members Area: Going Away For A While?' section and let us know so your account is not touched!

* You may only have one character until you reach 50 posts, then you have the option to add one other character. It is recommended that for you to not get carried away and develop too many characters to handle, that for every increment of 50 posts you have the option to add a new character. Some alumni members are quite happy with having only one character!

* Once your character(s) has been finalized post their full name in their character color in your Signature for quick reference! To update your signature go to My Controls!

POSTING RULES:

* You must participate at least once every 60 days or you will be alerted to login, otherwise your account will be automatically suspended (though not deleted). This is so the forum does not get too crowded with members that do not wish to participate.

* "Don't try to be everywhere at once. Play your characters like people that can only be one place at a time" - Sera

^ You may only post as 1 RP Character in 1 post per Category (section) this will help keep the RPing as chronological as possible. The only exceptions are: Classes, and all OCC Topics - since you are posting as you and not your RP Character.
(Example of where your character can be at the 'same time': Halls, The Dance Floor, Your Dorm)

* Any topic that has not been posted/replied at in 10 days it will be closed.

* When posting a 'New Topic' please do not write "open" in the 'Topic Description' line, the icon to the left of the topic will show members if your topic is open/closed and it is confusing to people when your topic has been closed and still says 'open' ;) You may however write "open to all" or "welcome to all" if you want to make sure people know that you welcome all characters!

* When your RP Character leaves a topic you MUST write [out] or [exits] or [leaves] in your post so you will not be penalized for posting in another topic in the same category! (And so no one gets confused to whether or not your character is just standing by a door somewhere  )

* If you haven't been doing this already; when continuing a topic in another area please add a "[Continued in ___]" link in the area your characters are exiting, and also adding a "[Continued from ___]" link in the new area. This will make it easy for you to reference and also for others to follow the storyline :)

MATURE AREA RULES:

* By request to post in this area you are saying that you are old/mature enough to post and view said "mature" material.

* If you abuse this area with immaturity you will be banned from posting for a minimum of 30 days.

* TMA does not condone violence, sexual abuse, or gratuitous bodily harm and the posts within TMA's Mature Area does not reflect the views of Administrators, Moderators, or Members.

GRAPHICS RULES:

* No frankendolling! (Stealing graphics from an artist and using them, or using part of them as your own.)

* You must provide credit to the basemaker, including a URL link!

* Post appropriate graphics in their appropriate forum. There are separate threads for Dolls & Pixel Art, Bases, etc.

* No spam! Only start a thread if you have something to post.

* Only reply with true Constructive Criticism, no one word posts.

* Be RESPECTFUL!

CONSEQUENCES for Rule Violaters:

* All 'first time offenders' will be warned 1% (depending on offense)

* If you disregard a General Rule you will be judged accordingly.

* If you disregard a Joining ~ Member Rule you will be warned accordingly.

^ If you do not post within 60 Days your account will risk suspension.

* If you disregard a Posting Rule up to 3 times you will be warned accordingly and all threads you have posted in (breaking the rules) will be locked.

* If you disregard any Rule 5 times in a row you will be temporarily suspended.

* Any member may be suspended/banned for any such offenses that the Administrators deem worthy of a suspension/ban.

* If you do not follow the rules (Step by Step) you will be warned, the steps are here to ensure that you understand everything in the forum and the main cause of rule breaking is due to people not reading the actual rules.

* If you have any further questions that are not in 'Forum Guidlines' please post in the 'Questions About ^' thread!

Please follow the rules and enjoy Tokyo Magic Academy! Thank You! ^^

IN REGARD TO TMA'S MATURE LEVELS

It has been brought up that it is unclear what the 'PG-16' rating of TMA means in regard to mature language, sexual situations, violence, etc. Tokyo Magic Academy is what is refered to as "PG-16" which is based on the TV-14 American Broadcasting System of ratings:

QUOTE
TV-14 (Unsuitable for children under 14)

Programs issued the TV-14 rating are usually unsuitable for children under the age of 14 without the guidance of a parent or guardian.
Many programs that air after 9:00 pm are rated TV-14

This rating may be accompanied by any of the following subratings:

V for intense violence
S for moderate sexual situations
L for coarse language
D for highly suggestive dialogue

However, we at TMA will tend to verge on what is called TV-MA. HOWEVER, material found below may also be restricted to the Mature Area which is not rated but will still have the word filter as the word filter exists to the entire forum and not just the Mature Area.

QUOTE
TV-MA (intended for mature audiences ages 17 and older; formerly TV-M until 1998)

This program is not intended for and may not be suitable for children under the age of 17 (which is considered the last year of childhood). The program may contain extreme graphic violence, strong profanity, overt explicit sexual dialogue, nudity and/or strong sexual content.

This rating may be accompanied by any of the following subratings:
V for extreme graphic violence
S for explicit sexual situations
L for strong coarse language

QUOTE
Additional Subratings:
V (Violence)
N (Nudity)
S (Sex)
L (Language)
P (Prejudice)

If your post includes any of the above in the general forum and not the Mature Area please be sure to either request that your topic be moved before you continue posting if you feel it extends from the TV-14 rating to the TV-MA rating (or if the topic is moving to more mature levels) or if it stays within the TV-MA please add *Mature* to the title line of your post.

The following is what the guidline to TMA's Mature Indecent Language policy is based on.
(#3-#6 apply to TMA's automatic Word Filter):

QUOTE
FCC and First Amendment Library.

This decision formally established indecency regulation in American broadcasting. In follow-up rulings, the Supreme Court clarified that the words might be acceptable under certain circumstances, particularly at times when children would not be expected to be in the audience.

The list consists of:

1. Sh*t
2. P*ss
3. F*ck
4. C*nt
5. C*cksucker
6. Motherf*cker
7. T*ts

These guidlines are made for members of all ages and backgrounds to feel comfortable and unoffended in posting at Tokyo Magic Academy. If you have any questions/concerns please let us know by posting Questions About TMA!

Thank you!
