Just a quickie using leftover parts, but I came up with a neat backstory.

Within hours of the destruction of the RX-78-2 (or 3, whichever you prefer) at A Boa Qu, EFSF Intelligence commissioned the mobile suit dubbed the RX-80 Gundam, known internally as the "Prop Gundam" (Prop being short for propaganda, but also appropriate in that the mobile suit was a prop in a larger Intelligence scheme). The actual mobile suit was the final testbed prototype of the GM Type C; within the day it was given a new head from a stockpile of RX-79[g] parts and a fresh coat of paint.
The soldiers, citizens, and mass media of the Earth Federation had come to adopt the RX-78 as a sort of national symbol, though it was technically still classified. The Federation simply
needed a Gundam to keep morale strong. The "RX-80" traveled from colony to colony and base to base in the waning weeks of the One Year War, championed as the "Gundam of the People." It did not see any combat, but it did help conduct final testing on the GM Type C platform that would be the basis for the Federation's next generation of GMs.
It also accomplished another goal: appearing as if from nowhere, the Prop Gundam became the primary target for Zeonic Intelligence, drawing attention away from the development of the GM Type-C, NT-1, and Gundam Development Project (though eventually both Gundam projects would be compromised). The Prop Gundam was decommissioned in UC0082 and sold to Anaheim Electronics. Parts from the Prop Gundam would eventually wind up being used in the experimental RGM-79C Wagtail.
I did this in a few hours - it's just a Gundam[g] head swapped onto a GM-C body (with the shoulder loops having been cut off for my GM Command Ground Type Concept). It needs a lot of cleanup, but it's done enough to show off.
