The X-Men Academy Failure isn't Fatal
f a i l u r e i s n ' t F A T A LIt has been fifteen months since the events of X-Men: The Last Stand (X3). Professor Charles Xavier, who was thought to be dead, was brought to the Academy by Dr. Moira McTaggert. His spirit had simply traveled to the body of the comatose John Henry Oppelheimer, who suddenly regained consciousness, but with Professor Xavier’s mind and spirit. The current headmistress of the Academy, Storm, or Ororo Munroe, offered to step down but Professor Xavier refused.
Meanwhile, Rogue and Bobby (or Iceman), were enjoying a passionate kissing session when, mid-kiss, Bobby began to have seizures. They stopped, immediately, and Rogue went running to find Headmistress Storm and her Deputy Headmaster, Nightcrawler. They concluded that the effects of the cure had gone away, and, once again, Rogue was unable to touch her boyfriend. Bobby is currently recovering in the infirmary at the Academy. Rogue, and Kitty Pryde, visit him daily.
Mystique, whose powers now included being able to change her voice (although she was unable to shapeshift anything more than her eye and hair color), searched out Magneto (living under the alias E. Magnus) and found that the cure had failed in him, also. Together, as their powers slowly returned to normal, they found other former members of the Brotherhood. However, they have since failed to find Juggernaut, Multiple Man, and Pyro, and devise a plot to find them. They plan to enter the Academy and hijack Cerebro to find the missing members of the Brotherhood. Until they execute this plan, they meet weekly in the Ne Plus Ultra bar, run by a mutant friendly to the Brotherhood.
But in the midst of all this, a new plot to wipe out all mutants has surfaced.
Geneticore Industries inside New York City has always been a distinguished place of learning for those interested in the science of genetics, and many great and wonderful doctors have studied behind its doors. They are even the company who created the doomed ‘Cure’ for the mutant X-gene.
With this failure came declining faith in the Industry’s products, and their customer base soon faded into a small trickle of small companies who still believed in the company’s vision and products. Despite the failure with the ‘Cure’, Geneticore still has some loyal followers in the radical anti-homosuperior movement, and soon the company was once again receiving large sums of money for well covered-up; behind the scenes testing on mutants of all ages, power levels and backgrounds. The owner is particularly interested on testing certain new control chips and cures on local mutants they have identified. For months now, the company has been perfecting these prototypes, and now wants to find people to test them on and see their proficiency without stirring the waters of the equal right’s movements for the Mutants and their homosapian counterparts who happen to support the people with superior genes.
The company is now ready to begin its undercover actions, and associates are being given their instructions as to what they are to carry out and whom they are to bring to the Geneticore home base. Amongst these associates and workers is Lucia Gutierrez, the owner's right hand woman, who is actually a mutant herself, but refuses to assume that title, having taken a better liking to ‘God’s gift to humans to stop these mutated freaks on Earth’. She happens to have the power to sense mutants within a certain range around her, though this mutation is somehow blocked by a certain wavelength in Hannah’s brain that prevents her from sensing her appearance. Meanwhile, the Brotherhood as sent in their own little spy to see what is going on.
Lucia's only aim is to play God with the mutants they manage to snag in their little kidnapping scheme.
Can the captured mutants be helped before it’s too late? And so begins Failure isn't Fatal
