Charlie had been in ever green for a year. That was a year that for the most part she had kept to herself. She had been to depressed, too heartbroken, too devastated to bother meeting anyone else. On top of all her hurt feelings she had moved to this new place where she had to get to know the town as well as her new job and buckle down to really get a bond with the cats there as well as set up her own way of doing things. She was a zookeeper and that took a lot of time and patience when moving into a new position with new people as well as new animals that didn’t know her yet. But she was the head of the big cat department and it was her dream come true. So threw that year despite her lack of human interaction outside of the work place Charlie slowly began to heal.
She was no longer depressed. No longer heartbroken and she very rarely thought about the boy that she had been with since she was sixteen years old, who cheated on her a week before the wedding. She occasionally did but only because he had been such a large part of her life and she had envisioned herself happily married and pregnant with her first child by this time. But dreams changed. Especially since one of the lioness’s at the zoo had recently birthed a couple of cubs which she heartbreakingly rejected. She had been an older female and it had been her third litter in her long life. Because of the confinement and not living in the wild the female had reacted poorly in almost all of her litters. But it was also an exciting time for Charlie. Something to keep her mind off of the fact that she had signed up for a match making service to give her, her happily ever after.
She had been busy spending day and night at the Zoo bottle feeding and caring for the lion cubs. Creating a bond with them that would be easier for the zoo to handle when it came to the vet and even might bring the zoo in a bit more money for people wanting to see the lady petting and playing with lion’s when they grew a bit bigger which would be in no time. But tonight they had told her to go home. Her assistant would take over for the night. She couldn’t blame them. She was a mess lately. Like a new mother, barely caring for herself and focusing more on her new “ babies” and like a new mother she had been completely worried about the cubs all day. Calling countless times to check on them and make sure everything was alright and going smoothly. There had been a few hiccups with one or both of them not wanting to nurse smelling the new scent of her assistant rather than her own, but it was soon forgotten and over with at the promise of food. At about the fifteenth call to her assistant she was finally told the phone was turning off and to go out and enjoy herself. And figuring if she wanted to get back into the zoo tomorrow she needed to back off for the night.
She decided to treat herself to dinner and then a few drinks. So she had gone to momma lucchese’s for dinner alone, ignoring the stares she got from couples. And then found herself sitting at the counter at the three crowns. It wasn’t that busy seeing as it was still early in the night but she ordered herself a beer anyway and pulled her ipad out of her purse scanning threw some recent emails as well as going threw some new information for work, caring for lion cubs in captivity as well as some new ways to up her organization in the big cat main office. She got completely lost in her notes and research that she hadn’t noticed someone sit beside her.
