[Kairi O. Summerset]

A month before Graduation - 1979


The cool breeze blew over the lake, causing Kairi's robe to flow behind her like a dress caught in the spring air. She closed her eyes solemnly. It was her way of slowly saying good bye to her second home.

"Kairi?"

Kairi O. Summerset opened her eyes and turned to find Armand Zabini, uncharacteristically shifting uncomfortably from one foot to the other. She looked him over, seeing the same old scruffy brother figure she always saw.

"Yes?" she asked, allowing her dark red hair to flow in the direction of her skirtish robe.

"I need... well... to ask you something?" Armand said, rubbing the back of his neck, looking unusually serious.

Kairi waited as he regained composure. She couldn't deny it; she was scared of what was going to come out of his mouth.

"Well... um... do you like me?" Armand blurted out, his face beet red.

"Well of course, you're like a brother to me." Kairi said, confused.

"Just... just a brother right?" he asked hestitantly. "No more?"

Kairi nodded and laughed at his relief.

"Ouch," she said, jokingly.

"No, no it's nothing like that it's just..." Armand took a deep breath. "I want to... propose to Angel on our graduation."

Kairi breathed in and sighed. "Oh Armand! That's wonderful!"

"Yeah, well," he said, not meeting her eyes. "I just wanted to make sure that... you know you didn't think there was anything between..."

He trailed off and Kairi put a hand on his shoulder, feeling him shudder slightly at the electric shock.

"Don't worry. I fully support the relationship you have with Angel," she said. "I promise I won't tell!"

"Thanks!" Armand said, "Well, Partner in Crime, I have to meet up with Angel. See you later!"

"Yeah..." Kairi drifted off, "Later."

She couldn't help but feel a twinge of jealously. All of her friends had hooked up and were leading romantic lives. She was left alone... always alone.

That's the way it has to be... she told herself. Men can't see you for who you are... only for what blood you are... a veela.

She had a sour taste in her mouth and continued to look out over the lake. If only she knew what was in store for her come suppertime...

Suppertime

Kairi walked into the lunchroom, feeling a little bit better. It was Friday, her favorite day of the week. This wasn't just because of the weekend, but also because it was the day that her and her friends from other houses agreed to break protocol and sit with each other at one of the tables. They rotated from table to table, which at first got them in trouble with the houses. Now the houses were accustomed to it, and even made room. Today was Hufflepuff's table and Kairi was happy to see that most of her friends were already there.

She looked at her friends fondly, scanning each of them with happy eyes. Lily Evans was sitting between Carrie Stevenson and Emmeline Vance, laughing at something that Naomi Tantem was saying. Armand and Angel Trinity had a spot reserved for Kairi and was waving her over. James Potter, Peter Pettigrew, Sirius Black, and Remus Lupin were in the middle of a tense plotting, while fellow Hufflepuffs were giving them evil looks. She walked over and sat down amidst the group and sighed.

Angel looked at her and cocked her head.

"What's up Kai-chan?" she asked.

"Yeah, you look down," Naomi said, "Need some ice cream?"

"This is history in the making," Emmeline said in mock shock, "Naomi is actually offering some one her ice cream!"

"It is most definetly a sign," Lily said, closing her eyes. "The world is going to end."

"And then there shall be ice cream raining from the sky," Carrie continued, "Oh the horror!"

"Shut up!" Naomi said, rolling her eyes.

"Seriously though," Angel said, "What's up?"

"It's nothing really," Kairi insisted, "I've just been thinking alot lately."

"Thinking will kill you sooner or later," James cut in, the marauders joining in on the conversation. "Life's more painless"

"For the brainless!," Sirius cut in.

"Life's more fraughtless," Remus added.

"When you're thoughtless!" Peter finished, happy to be included.

"And how long have you guys been planning to use that one." Armand said, rolling his eyes.

"Longer than you'll last during quidditch, Zabini." James said, his dislike of Armand clear.

As the two of them argued, Kairi glanced over towards the professor's table.

"Who's that?" she asked, seeing a new face.

Standing in front of the table, talking with Professor Dumbledore, was someone she had never seen around the school before. He was clearly from a different school, Durmstrang possibly, and had a head of golden brown hair which was curly. He was turned slightly so one could see that he had a handsome face with dark eyebrows and a wonderful smile. They were seated just close enough to the professor's table that they could tell that he had deep blue eyes.

The girls at the table all breathed in, with the exception of Nao, who was looking to see who Kairi was talking about.

"I don't know," Angel said, "But I give him a ten!"

"An 11!" Carrie put in, "Definetly an 11."

"Yeah," Lily agreed, unconciously twirling a strand of red hair around her fingers.

"Who?" Nao demanded, still looking around.

"I'd like to be the one to show him around," Emmy said approvingly.

"Who?!"

"Yeah," Kairi said, looking around to see the other females who had noticed him (there were quite a few).

"He looks like a mama's boy," Armand argued.

"Who asked you?" Angel cut in.

The other boys chorused in their comments as well.

"Probably some rich kid," James shrugged.

"Yeah," Remus said, looking sadly at Carrie who was looking in the direction of the boy.

As if sensing he was being watched, the young man looked in the direction of the table. Kairi locked eyes with him and blushed.

"Oh Kairi he's looking this way!" Angel said, nudging her. "Probably at you!"

"Who is?" Nao asked, still confused.

"Yeah right," Kairi said, feeling her heart give a thump.

The corner's of the boy's mouth twitched slightly before smiling widely, showing off his perfect teeth.

"What a hottie!" Emmy said, ignoring the glare coming from Sirius.

"Who are you guys talking about?" Naomi demanded.

The boy nodded slightly at Kairi before turning back to talk with the professors.

"I have a feeling that things are going to get very interesting soon," Lily prophesised looking between Kairi and the new boy. "Especially with this guy around."

"WHO?!!!"

Omg that's soooo good! I love the whole conversation between all of us. And I positively adore Nao going 'Who?' ever two seconds. Too funny. Got anymore you want to post now?

The Boy from Durmstrang

Kairi entered the Hufflepuff common room where there was a gaggle of girls talking. Viptoria Gena and a few other Hufflepuff females flew over to her.

"Kairi!" she said happily, "Did you hear? There's a new guy from Durmstrang."

Remembering the boy from lunch, Kairi gave a short nod.

"I think I saw him..." she said.

"Well," Daria turner chimed in, "Apparently his name is Jacques Delacour."

"French, of course," Marie Bennet continued, "It seems there were some troubles at Durmstrang and he got transferred."

"Yes, yes," Viptoria said, waving her hand at being interuptted. "But you're forgetting the best part!"

She paused for dramatic measure and then began.

"He's in--"

She was cut off as everyone looked towards the door. It was opening slowly, letting in Professor Sprout, followed by the handsome man she had seen at lunch. There was dead silence in the room.

"Hello Hufflepuffs," she said, gesturing to the boy with her dirt stained hands. "This is Jacques Delacour, a transfer from Durmstrang. He will be in your house, therefore I hope that you will all treat him as one of your own and show him the trade, so to speak."

She muttered a quick word to Jacques, before leaving the common room. The dead silence was broken by Amos Diggory, never one to be shy.

"Welcome to Hufflepuff," he said, shaking Jacques' hand firmly.

"Thank you," Jacques said, his voice deep and thick with a French accent.

It was if a spell had been broken. Everyone began to crowd around asking questions.

"Will you be joining the quidditch team," Edgar Bones asked curiously, "We're short a player, a keeper actually."

"Most definetly," Amos said, "I'm a chaser myself."

"What classes are you taking?" Hestia Jones cut in.

Kairi wandered off to a corner where Viptoria was standing, clearly pouting.

"What's wrong?" Kairi asked, trying to keep from making eye contact with the new boy. "I thought that you'd be happy that he's in our house."

"Oh I am," Viptoria said with a sigh, "I just wanted to be the one to tell everyone."

Something just like the thing with Nao in "Suppertime" happened to me on the bus home. All of us were talking about this cute guy and my friend next to me like "Who?! Who's the cute guy? Who!!" Haha, it just reminded me so much of this story!

History

"Thus the rebellion of 1813 was of great and horrible controversy with in the Goblin Union..." Professor Binns droned on as the rest of the class fell to sleeping or gazing out the window.

Kairi herself was gazing out the window, wondering what how the giant squid was doing since someone had poured some potion into the lake. It wasn't dangerous by any means but it was surely not going to have a good effect on the lake. Sure enough she saw a giant tentacle creep out of the lake, a bright yellow color. She chuckled softly to herself. Just then the door creeped open. Everyone turned around to see the Durmstrang boy, Jacques standing at the entrance.

"Excuse me," he said, "Is this ze 'istory class? I am supposed to be in 'ere for ze period no?"

Professor Binns looked up as a group of girls giggled nervously and whispered among themselves.

"Let me check my list," he said, looking at it. "Would you be Jacques Delacour?"

"Oui," Jacques said with a shrug, causing another round of giggles.

"Then just have a seat next to Miss Summerset, and I will continue with the lesson," Professor Binns said in a bored tone.

Kairi's eyes widened slightly. He was to sit by her?

One of the girls snickered and said quietly, yet perfectly audible. "Geez make him sit by the freak."

Kairi blushed angrily and was about to say something when Jacques looked over in that direction.

"Excuse me, do you have Tourettes?" he asked, perfectly audibly.

The girl blushed scarlet and shook her head. "No, of course not!"

"Ah, so you were trying to be rude on purpose, no?" he said.

The class laughed causing Professor Binns to frown.

"Alright back to attention."

Kairi looked over at Jacques and smiled.

"You didn't have to do that..." she said, blushing.

"I vanted to," he said, giving her a smile. "It vas, how you say, my pleasure. There is no reason for rudeness in my book."

Kairi blushed again and smiled, gratefully.

"I'm Kairi."

"Jacques Delacour."

She extended her hand for him to shake, forgetting the shock that she gave people. He took her hand, and faced it palm down and kissed her hand. Goosebumps ran up Kairi's arms. She couldn't even begin to feel his emotions through her own. Jacques didn't appear to notice the shock either as he held on to her hand for a moment longer before letting it go.

"I 'ave a feeling zis is going to be an interesting year." he told her, smiling.

lol okies though just so I don't get sued i kinda stole the whole tourettes thing out of a book cuz it was my fave line in the whole book and i wanted to use it hehe.

Slytherin Gossip

"The poor boy was clearly just pitying the freak," Bellatrix Black said soothingly to her cousin, Narcissa Black. "He didn't mean to insult you of course."

Narcissa sniffed haughtily and pointed her nose up in the air.

"You're right of course, he simply didn't realize it was me." she said. "Not to worry though, he clearly felt some attraction of some sort to me."

Niamh Travers, who was sitting near them snorted her disgust. "Full of yourself much?"

"Shut up Travers!" Narcissa snapped.

Niamh shrugged and winked jokingly at Daeva Yaxley who was curled up on a deep green chair near her. "What do you think Daeva?"

"I think," Daeva said with a grin, "That Narcissa doesn't realize that she is going to end up marrying Malfoy and have some slimy butt kid."

"Hush up," Narcissa said, paling. "My parents might have that in mind, but not me."

Secretly, before Jacques had showed up, Narcissa had been going after the esteemed Lucius Malfoy. But now she had her eye set on a different prize.

Bellatrix smiled wickedly at her cousin. "It's just too bad he's a Snufflepuff. He is handsome."

Severus Snape walked into the room just as Daeva Yaxley added "Yeah, but I'll bet he'll go after Kairi, she is a pretty girl."

Snape frowned at all of them and asked, "What is with this frivolous prattle."

Bellatrix smiled and said, "Hey Snapey, we were just talking about the new kid. He's probably going to go after the stupid Hufflepuff Kairi-"

"She's not stupid."

Niamh looked at Snape in surprise along with the rest of the girls. This was the first time that Severus Snape had ever defended anyone outside of the Slytherin house. His pale face was tinged with a red anger. Armand Zabini chose that moment to stride into the room.

"What have we here?" he said smoothly. "Snape you pimp, are you taking all these ladies for yourself."

The girls snorted as Snape turned even redder.

"Watch it Zabini," he said cooly.

"Kidding, man, kidding." He said sitting down. "So how about that new kid?"

Without a word, Snape strode out of the room, leaving a confused Armand.

"What'd I say?"
