PurpleBubba's Demo Family

Here is my family of Manikins for demonstrating updos and styles. These are from my cosmetology school days.

Sequoia

(Posted Image)
Hair: 19.5 inches long. (about 3 inches past white band)
Currently cut into a long one length blunt cut

Hanna

This is the new head with a shorter neck.
Hair: 28 -28.5 inches long. (about 11 inches below neck)
Currently cut into a deeper U using Feye's instructions

with the head held straight up, not tilted. Some of her hair is already shorter than than the U so its not perfect. The hair on the sides was originally 2 shorter tails of hair that reached a bit below her neck. They needed a trim so I decided to cut some neck framing layers using the chin as a guide and going downfrom there. Oh and as far as making the decision to cut the layers, Her hair was not going to grow anyway so I figured I would cut them and use them to challenge myself a bit more when I do try updos and such. The shorter side layers are pinned up. You can see them below.
PS: Do you like my paint job?

This was just a picture I took with the camera to see how it would come out. This was on the old head just before I had my bright idea to shorten the head. Do not put Model glue on styrofoam. Unless you like styrofoam to have craters.

Hair in back is in the beetle bun shown in this thread.

Veronica

Hair: 15 inches long.
Currently cut into a one length blunt cut bob
Veronica joined the family to try out new haircuts. This left her sister Sequoia with longer hair. Veronica has her hair cut into a bob, by me. I personally like it in this style and will not cut it again. Note: I am using 2 bobby pins to hold hair off to the side so you can see her face better. I didn't have any barrettes or other stuff yet so bobby pins worked. ;)

I do plan to show some short hair updos on Veronica as well as braids and other stuff. I've already posted some threads.

For that one you need a styrofoam head like this one

Painting is optional. I got the paints at Michaels. I think they were acrylics.

You need T shaped Pins to hold the wig on
http://www.sallybeauty.com/shop/2230/445401

Then you need to find a store that sells those wigs. The store I got mine from was torn down and there's a Lowes there now. It was a Beauty Supply store but it was a Mom & Pop type.

The one I got came in a small plastic bag / pouch. It's a wig that has an elastic band about 2 inches wide all the way around. In other words it's kinda like taking a winter hat cutting the top off and attaching hair to the bottom part.

When I bought mine it was like $20. Which considering all the regular wigs were a lot shorter and none less than $40 it was a bargain.

The other two are actual mannikin heads for cosmetology practice which can be found at Sally or you can go to Amazon.com and find some.

Another option is to get one of those styling heads for kids. Either Barbie or Bratz.
If you search for the words Styling Head at Amazon and then click Toys and Games you'll see a bunch of them. I don't have any but if someone just wants to practice things these might be a cheaper option.

I assembled and painted it.

Head + Wig + Pins. Paint was optional.

Oh and one more thing,
You may want to get a clamp for holding the head.
