NO I didn't like dresses as a child, I was the original tom boy (still am at times lol). They say with age comes wisdom and I guess it must be true as I now have come to appreciate dresses. They are sooo cool and comfortable in the summer. I love long, flowy skirts and dresses if I want to feel feminine and pretty. I also wear shorter styles if I am feeling racy lol. I still am not big on the traditional knee lengths though........it's the Long and Short of things for me!

I was a bit of a tomboy, too, when I was little. As I got older, I liked to dress up more. Being in a medieval re-creation group probably helped. :)

I like empire waisted dresses, since they make me look like I have an actual waist. Also any dresses that have elements of older styles in them, like Victorian, Renaissance, etc.

I had a favorite skirt set. It was a Laura Ashley old fashioned style. Fitted skirt to the knee then flared w/ pleats in the back, the top was fitted button down the fron colar that was wide in the back and tapered (like a suit coat) in the front, and puffy shoulders. It was a multi color muted flowerey print (i think sage green was the back ground color) :flowers:

Straight cut (hides a multitude of sins), elegant, nice bold basic colors (red, purple). You can't go wrong with a basic black dress & pearls. ;)

My wedding dress was a long sleeved sheath style with a detachable train. The entire dress itself had sequins & pearls. The DT was a simple satin, with 3 rosettes in place of the "big butt bow" they usually place on gowns. :rolleyes:

Oh yeah. I searched high and low for that baby! :D It would have been absolutely perfect had it been ivory as well, but, hey if I had to compromise, better to compromise on color than style.

during my regular life, not very often - i wear skirts frequently to church, for concert blacks and for recitals and other music performances. otherwise i don't get to dress up much and my favourite jean skirt is now property of my roomie bcs it doesn't fit me but fits her.

yes! i was the weird one. i used to play kickball in long calico skirts. anything with pretty prints.

my favourite dress when i was about 2 was pale pink with white lace (go figure) and i wore it until it was positively 3 sizes too small. my favourite dress when i was a bit older was a burgundy cotton (with olive and brown big brocade styling) and a lace underskirt and velvet cuffs collar and buttons. it was just mid calf length, plus the lace. and i LOVE it still (i still have it)

my favourite dress, though i don't get to wear it often, is one i bought when i was living in france. it's spaghettistrap with a lace up back, made of pale grey chiffon with olive and brown leaves stained into it (very floaty) fitted cut (sweetheart neckline), the bottom is spiral diagonal cut with three or four layers, so it has a very floaty walk, long, i LOVE it - but it's fancy and i don't have many occasions to wear it.

i went to prom twice:

dress1 - peach satin with white velvet roses, strapless, rounded line at the top, came down full length to my feet in the front and then curved up to meet in the back about mid hip with a gathered bustled underdress (same variations on the peach color). worn with white opera length gloves and white ballet slippers (my date was really short!) hair with white baby's breath in full updo

dress2 - olive green/gold shock fabric with greypurpleblue undertones. corset bodice (straplesss) with boning, pointed waist in front and back, FULL bell (not straight flare) skirt made of layers of chiffon and tulle in various colors (blue, green, gold, more green) worn with a blue wrap that matched the blue in the shock fabric and gold shoes (most comfy dress shoes in the world... to bad there' snot much occasion for gold shoes). hair in half up with gold and iridescent bead strings woven in (all curled, like belle in beauty and the beast)

Was it the one you wanted?

yup. the first one i'd tried on when shopping with a friend, then got asked to prom two weeks before the dance. found the dress on the clearance rack in a wholesale store in my size. about died. bought dress.

the second one was a dream come true - and the aldy in the store said i was the only one with the coloring to pull it off. *beams*

NEXT DRESS TO BE MADE: (since thats a different question) will be a burgundian houppelande. my cotehardie is cream cotton brocade, so i'm thinking in a rich burgundy or forest green, i'll find pictures of what i wantt o make sometime. for now, since i draft my own patterns, i'll just play!

eventually i'm going to make a brown and yellow linen Tudor (preferrably early, so no farthingale, just a bumroll)

I had this yellow dress that I loved, which surprises me because you probably wouldn't find me wearing yellow today. And a fitted, cotton one with long sleeves and a belt in a thin black and white stripe pattern. Bought it when we were in Canada. I still have it somewhere I think, I can't really bear to throw it away. If I squeezed into it now it would probably become a minidress! And there was one I had when I was maybe 11-12. It was made of white lace. I wore it once and spilled cocoa on it (!!!) and ruined it *sob*

Yes, it's a drop-waisted spaghetti strap chiffon dress. Black with a red rose pattern. The bodice is fitted and the skirt is slightly billowy, bias-cut and ends just below the knees. It was quite cheap too. It looks like something I could go salsa dancing in... if I knew how to salsa ^_^

Nearly all kinds as long as they fit well and don't emphasize my flaws! Floaty dresses, long columns, little spaghetti strap dresses. I like both spaghetti straps and long sleeves. I would love a long sleeved, off shoulder, long black dress (kinda like one Madonna wore in one of her old music videos) but even if I had one, I'm not sure where I'd wear it to!

Any that doesn't fit well. My hips are kinda wide so dresses that are too clingy just make them look all wrong.

**I like casual drresses. I'm really into the boho look right now. I like earthy colors, I prefer ankle length but will wear any length below the knee. I hate my legs and I really hate my knees. I don't wear short dresses and I never wear shorts at all.

**My wedding dress was something my sister found at a thrift shop that was going out of business and she got it for about $15....yes I'm serious!

**I didn't really like it very much. My wedding was just sort of thrown together at the last minute. DH and I had gotten engaged in Oct of 1995. I became preggo in Dec of 1995 and found out in Jan 1996. Then about 2 weeks after I found out I was pg, my dad got diagnosed with bladder cancer. We weren't sure what was going to happen with him and he really wanted to see me get married, so before he went in for his first procedure, DH and I were married. The wedding wasn't the most extravagant of affairs, but we are still very happily married... and my dad is still going strong :wub:

-For the more formal ones to special occasions like weddings (which doesn't happen nowadays). But I like to wear casual dresses during summer.

-My favorite is made by a Filipino designer - a cocktail dress because of the craftsmanship. It is a long-sleeved black velvet top with an off-white/beigey almost A-line knee-length skirt with black and white floral embroidery on it. I still have it even though I couldn't fit in it anymore :wacko:

Yes, it's ankle length, sleeveless, with a tank top kind of top on it (wide straps and body starts just above breast-level). Wine-colored fabric with shiny navy lace over it that's open in the front so it kind of makes curtains over the dress. haha! It has an empire waist with a band of navy velvet to accentuate it.

My wedding dress was actually a prom dress that I bought on sale at Fairweather probably 5 years ago. I saw the same dress in Fairweather's window this year (or maybe last?) but with lime green flowers rather than blue. I like the blue better. This was my wonderful dream dress for my wedding.

Actually, I bought a dress for a wedding a little over a year ago, and while I'd have preferred it in blue, the bride was adamant about this particular shade of lavendar... and while it looks more mauve-ish to me, it looked awesome on me! It wasn't an easy color to wear, let me tell ya...

David's Bridal carries the style... The Dress - in style, anyways, if not color. I loved it... and even had shoes dyed to match!
