Please feel free to tell us any additional info such as your current hair length and whether you are growing longer or not.

I chose "I do not have layers but had them prior to 10 years ago"
When I had my short cut in 1994 it was a pixie type cut and it was layered a lot and grew out as layers.

I currently do not have layers...I was recently told though
that the top of my curly hair is flat because the weight of
the length is pulling out the curls..it was suggested to me
to get some small layers around the top put in.........just
NOT sure if I'm willing to do this........what do ya think?

The key to that is to have a stylist that knows how to cut those layers that will help curly hair.
Not only that but only cut the bare minimum needed unless it's a client that doesn't care.
As for you it's a pro vs con thing. Do you think the hair is flat? Do you think the layers will cure it? Is this enough of a problem that you would trade this problem for any problem that the layers might cause?
If you do decide to get some cut you could try to find the hairs that are already shorter from being new hairs or those that might have broken and ask that those be used since those are already doing the layer thing.

I've had layers off and on a lot from the ages of 19 to about 24-25. I currently don't have them.

I don't like them on me, because they don't behave.
I still have some on the sides from my stack, but not much maybe an inch or so, eventually I will cut them.

I have layers but I'm in the process of growing them out. I think they make my hair look thinner. ^_^

I always hated layers because they always looked awful. I guess whoever cut them before just didn't have much skill because my current layers are great. I dunno... the hairdresser I have now is very thorough and I'm very happy with my layers.

I had layers when I was growing out ... OMG nearly 20 years ago!!!!! I had a pixie-ish Boy cut for years before that. I slowly got longer but kept every thing trimmed to look neat as it grew.
My cuts since then have all been one length cuts - 3 bobs and one shoulder blade cut.

I currently do not have layers (with the exception of my shorter (collar length) bangs. ) I only will get them if my hair is short. When my hair is longer- I think they thin my hair out too much.
Stylists are always telling me to cut my hair to midlength and layer it- but in my personal experience( I actually did this once) it made my hair look tooo fine and wispy. Plus, it had to be styled all the time with heat, and it fell flat at the end of the day. My hair looks much fuller at one length.
Because I have a natural wave- they think it will bring up the wave- but my hair is actually straighter when it's short- the wave doesn't come out much until it gets below my shoulders. I did have one stylist who understood that- she said it' the shape of the follicle in some people, (the curly girl book also talks about this).Unfrotunatly, she retired.

In about February I cut my layers out, but last month I cut a few from the front / canopy layer - mostly to try and reduce damage in that area. I am trimming blunt on a monthly basis and will gradually cut them out.
