Ok, this role-play is about the early days of the spirit vampire Isca, her daywalker/lackey Tristan, and the world around her and the creatures she came across in her younger, weaker days. The starting post was written over M.S.N when on day I asked the player of Tristan, Nee'lahn, how such a wired pair could have possibly met and ended up going around together- a good but weak willed and cowardly human and an enigmatically evil undead being that drinks both the blood and spirit of those she preys off, and it soon turned into a fully fledged R/P. Questions like how the heck did he get away not getting brutally murdered first time they met are answered, but:
I still put it down to blind luck. One day, Tristan was... ...relieving himself by an alleyway after a long shift at the inn.... ...at night... And... Isca was lurking on the roof. Tristan did himself up before walking back towards the town. Isca peered down and scouted along the roof after him Isca jumped down from the roof in front of him, and she was hungry. I mean really really desperate. (Nee'lahn says: Am I not that tasty then Tristan panicked thinking it was a cutthroat, Looking backwards Tristan ran head long into a barrel by a pub and ended up with his head stuck in it and his legs dangling in mid air. Isca.... ...thought briefly about finding something better to eat, before hoisting him up by his ankle... Tristan clung onto the side of the barrel as he was lifted out but finally lost his grip and twisted round, sinking his teeth into the vampires arm, hoping that she might let go.... ... but Isca looked on in mild interest instead. "Mmmpptth mtph" Tristan mumbled with his teeth still sunk into her arm, trying to chew.... Isca decided that was enough, smacked him one with one hand to get her arm back, and grabbed him by the collar instead. Dragging him back into the alley she shoved him roughly up against a wall, and smiled. "My turn now..." she said scratchily. Tristan gulped and quickly cleared his throat "Listen, I've heard of men raping women and all that but never of the other way round.... Unless your not even contemplating that but nothing is intended. I didn't mean to bite you, I just got spooked. You want money? I can give you money. You don't have to go down the eating people road, nobody likes a cannibal"...... Isca tightened her grip and shoved him up against the next wall. She didn't often play around. The little bastard had actually caused some damage when she looked. She growled "Not money, not flesh, pub rat... "Alright, alright... Chill out!! I can give you anything you want except the permission to brutally maul me" Tristan said with a sheepish smile. Isca pushed his head further back with her long, chilly fingers, and examined him in distaste. She preferred the taste of the wealthy and corrupt -rich and deep, however this individual was poor, a little grubby, and good, a couple of mild but obvious perversions aside. This pause was to save Tristan's life. Tristan realised the hesitation and grinned cheekily trying to win her over with blinding cuteness "See! You like me... You could never bite me..." Just in case Tristan tried his hardest to get the hell out of there, though it did not help at all and the only thing he managed was to look stupid whilst struggling. |

Isca decided to show him he was mistaken. She lent forward and found his pulse. She didn't need to bite him, but she found it helped to have a good grip. The mouth at Tristan's neck was ice cold, and the teeth caused a strange, icy cold pain as they broke the skin. A shout broke the silence: the vampire had stopped and tensed.
Three men had appeared at the entrance of the alley, night watchmen who knew better than to think Tristan was having a good time. Isca had been taken completely by surprise, and let Tristan drop, dodging one crossbow bolt but caught in the arm by the second. She let out a cry of anger and pain, and turned and fled into the mist and smog. |

As the vampire released her grip on Tristan he slid down the wall, landing in a heap on the floor. His face twisted in pain, the blood trickled down Tristan's neck as he put a hand to rid himself of the icy presence that still lingered. All inside began to feel cold as Tristan looked up to see the vampire dissapear, his eyes slowly drooping as he began to lose conciousness. Before he did so, however the last thing he heard and felt was someone turning him over "He's still alive...." a gruff voice shouted....

Isca didn't flee too far. She had soon lost the guardsmen in the fog, but the pain was maddening. The bolt had passed clean through in-between the bones of her forearm, and protruded from the other side rather gruesomely. She tried to pull it out, but found she couldn't. In all her years she had never felt a pain like it.
The weather was next to conspire against her. It began to rain. The pure droplets scorched her skin like fiery tears of angels. Cursing the rain and the night watch Isca bolted, searching for somewhere to hide while the rain passed and the rest of the night slid by. In one small way, her luck was in. One wine cellar door, clumsily left unlocked. Dry and roomy inside, dark, and many places to hide and… She sensed life, small as it was. And so Isca won her entry to the Broken Horn Inn. |

A few hours went by until Tristan finally woke, the rain was hammering against the window and for some strange reason he could feel the coldness of the water on his body. Tristan, not realising where he was sat up too fast which caused shoots of pain to run up towards his head. Wincing, he let out a strangled cry and slumped back, holding his head. Just as his head fell back into his pillow the door was opened.
"Tristan? Tristan are you alright?" Opening his eyes slightly to take in her form Tristan smiled full heartidly "Carina? What are you doing here?" With the help of the barmaid Tristan was lifted slowly upwards until he was in a sitting position "How did I get here?" Carina took Tristan by the hand and sat down next to him on the bed "The night watch brought you in, said you'd had a nasty brush off with some cannabalistic psychopath. They said you were the lucky one, a few bodies have been found in a couple of neighbouring towns, probably the same 'person' doing it" "Was she alright? They didn't kill her did they?" Tristan's sudden concern for the wellfair off his attacker made Carina's eyebrows raise "Her? Oh I see! Let me guess, you tried it on with her, right?" Tristan couldn't help but blush and smile with his usual sheepish expression "No, It's not like that... I just, Oh I don't know" Carina sighed and released her hold on Tristan's hand "If it really concerns you she got away but she got away with a bolt in her arm, it won't be long until shes found" Giving Tristan's leg a quick pat Carina stood and made her way to the door "I best get back downstairs, it's hell down there. Get some rest, we need you back down as soon as possible" After Carina had left Tristan got out of bed and stared out of the windon trying to make sense of what had happend. |

Isca, out of the way of the rising sun, slept like the dead. A short way from where she slept the floor was littered with rat corpses, little souls she’d had no trouble ripping from their moorings. She hadn't even needed to touch them. The bolt still protruded from her arm, and Tristan's teeth marks showed through on the other– she had eaten too little to repair the damage just yet. But she would think her way around that tomorrow. For now, she slept.

Tristan had slept the night away without even realising he'd dropped off in the first place. He was woken by the smallest of knocks "Are you awake Tristan?" An aggitated moan answered Carina's question "If you feel any better will you be able to cover the afternoon shift, someone wants to talk to you about last night... I'll see you downstairs in 10 minutes" With that Tristan sat up, stretching his tired limbs. He put his fingers to his neck and winced slightly, that was a nasty bruise "Damn it!..."
Standing up Tristan wandered over towards the basin where Carina had laid some fresh clothes. Remembering to thank her later he dressed swiftly before making his way downstairs."Morning sleepy head" Carina smiled happily "Morning" He responded yawning at the same time "Listen, can you go down to the cellar and get a fresh supply of ale. I forgot last night and I've got my hands tied with the kitchen work right now" Tristan licked his lips as he lifted the bars gate and squeezed through "If it's not too much trouble I'd murder some breakfast" Carina sighed as she walked back to the kitchen "I'll see what I can do... Oh! And another thing, keep an eye out for Tabby will you? She didn't come for her food this morning she might of got stuck down there" "Right!" Grabbing a light Tristan opened the cellar door and lightly climbed down the stairs "Get someone at the top will you" Tristan shouted up as he scouted round for the ale.... |

The cat was waiting for him at the bottom of the cellar.
"Mew" it said, and walked past him unsteadily and back up the stairs. Isca slept on. |

"Oh! Hi there Tabs... What the hell are you doing down here?" Giving the cat a quick stroke Tristan proceeded on finding the right keg. Tabby after licking it's paw a couple of times scooted back up the stairs. There was something really creepy about this cellar, something that always unnerved Tristan about coming down here. Deciding to hurry up his search Tristan went to the back of the cellar, holding the lamp up towards the labels "What one does he want?"
"The one from Hiddrick I think he said, was a best seller last night" Came a voice from the top of the stairs "Near the back wall but down right ways" If that was correct Tristan went the way his colleague had advised.... |

Isca woke up. Her bed had become unpleasantly bright.
‘...shit…’ thought Isca. If she was discovered in the daytime, she had an even chance of getting free and running away again. She didn't like those odds. She picked herself up and whirled behind a barrel an instant before Tristan rounded the corner, treading on one of many dead rats as he did so. She recognised the cursing. The pub rat worked here. Perhaps she would visit him tonight and finish what she started... |

"Eeeeeewwww...." Tristan squealed quite girleshly, tiptoeing around so he did not squish anymore rats "Bloody Tabby" He cursed picking his way through the spray of corpses. Now he really wanted to leave this place, raising his light to the barrel just over his head Tristan sighed in relief "Found it... I'm coming up" With a stuggled heave the barrel was taken from it's perch and shoved horizontally on the floor. Tristan gave a look behind him and decided not to go back the way he came, it wouldn't seem right to squash the bodies. Rolling the barrel past the many collumns of wine Tristan made his way back towards the stairs....

As Tristan headed towards the open cellar door the remaining rats still left alive after the last nights carnage decided to flee also. They charged past Tristan in a miniature plague, 3 dozen escaping through the hatch and into the daylight and away down the street, squeaking and squealing as they went, paying no heed to the squeaking and squealing people they ran by. They did not stop until they had left the town and entered the woodland nearby, and disappeared into the trees.

"Strange..." Tristan mumbled as the rats flew past his legs, this time he did not cringed but watched on in astonishment. Shrugging after they had left Tristan continued to roll the barrel up the stairs with the help of the other barman...

Later that night…
Isca awoke to complete darkness. It wasn't often she was reduced to sleeping in cellars, but it hadn't been all that bad. She reproached herself for the previous nights activity. She had to temper herself, be smarter if she was going to go undetected. She would leave the area as soon as she had fed tonight. Then she would be miles away while the day guard was still picking up the bodies. She looked at her arm. She would have to do something about that also. The wound had refused to heal around the arrow, and though it did not bleed it was open and angry on her pale flesh. With resolve she stood, and stalked to the locked cellar door, and concentrated, closing her eyes and resting her and on the wood. Then backed up and ran at it full tilt. The wood splintered and broke. Moonlight spilled in. She wasn't coming back so it wouldn't matter. Isca was going to pay Tristan a visit. |

"Night..." Tristan shouted to the others whilst he shut the door behind him. The last drunk had only just left and it was way past middnight, it had been a long day indeed. He stretched shortly before undressing and clambering into bed. The day had gone like any other really with the exceptions of the morning and his little guard visitor, he was an arrogant bastard. Tristan had half expected more questions to of been asked but all he wanted was to get the gossip on where she was. Like he knew, probably in the sewers or some other dank, mysterious place. "Nah, Probably not, too obvious really!! Ah well, early shift tomorrow. No need to worry on that anymore, that was over..." With that thought in mind Tristan drifted off into a light sleep....
