The Big Country is a Western RPG Set in 1867 in the town of Liberty, Texas. It's shortly after the Civil War, and people are flocking west to start new lives for themselves and their families. What they didn't anticipate though would be the physical and emotional struggle between each other, their work, and themselves. As survivors of both the North and South must unwillingly unite to make it in the West, will they draw a truce and let bygones be bygones, or allow the past hatred between them divide, devastate, and ultimately ruin their futures?

sheriff elijah james warren. SAM WORTHINGTON. SHERIFF. 32. MALE. Elijah is a very strong person, both physically and emotionally. He isn’t very good at being open with people, and keeps everything pretty close to his chest. Elijah works mostly in isolation, and often doesn’t ask for help. Being good with his six-shooter isn’t exactly something he’s proud of, as he doesn’t enjoy that part of his job and skill set. He would prefer to talk someone down and get them to give up peacefully, but more often than not, he has to use violence to keep the peace. Elijah was on the Confederate side of the war, hailing from South Carolina, but was soon sent home because of an injury to his leg, which is now a limp that is barely detectable. He was the only survivor of the incident, and he refuses to talk about his experiences during the War.
[font=georgia]jacob “jake” matthew warren. JOSH HUCHTERSON. NORMAL KID/DEPUTY. 18. MALE. Jacob is almost the exact opposite of his brother; he’s very outgoing, open minded, and open about what he thinks and feels. He is young, but he has the experience of someone twice his age, as he fought for the Confederates during the War against his brother’s wishes and the “rules” of the Rebels. He didn’t see battle though, because the War ended before he was sent in. In some aspects, however, young Jake is like Elijah; he knows when to be serious, and when necessary uses force to keep the peace. Occasionally when his brother reluctantly asks for help or advice regarding something, Jake with come in and act as Deputy. He also has a fancy for Patience MacKay.
widow caroline jane alexander. EVAN RACHEL WOOD. OWNER & OPERATOR OF LIBERTY HOTEL. 24. FEMALE. Widow Alexander is a true Southern Lady—she’s hospitable, she’s charming, and she has a strong backbone underneath her demure and gentle shell. She and Mr. Alexander were, quite literally, just married before the War was declared in their hometown in Georgia. Mr. Alexander, before leaving with a group of other young men from their town, sent his fresh young bride to stay with his elderly relations in Liberty, who happened to own the only hotel, which was a...mess to put it nicely. Caroline brought the old hotel back to life, and was surprisingly rewarded with the deed and ownership of the place. Unfortunately, word of the death of her husband had reached her, and she had no desire or reason to leave Liberty. So now the Widow Alexander lives and works in her hotel, putting on a fake smile to greet her customers to cover up the sadness she feels inside for her lost love.

pastor edmond carlton browne. MATTHEW FOX. PASTOR OF ST. MICHAEL’S. 29. MALE. Pastor Browne is a pure Northern boy hailing from Vermont, and was a reluctant soldier of the Union Army. He is a God-fearing man, and has a healthy respect for the Lord. He’s a social person, and enjoys talking and interacting with others. Along with telling people about the Good News, Pastor Edmond is also a very good story teller, and can play the guitar. Pastor Browne is also very charismatic.
jason cortalnd mackay. HUGH JACKMAN. RANCHER. 36. MALE. Owner of the largest ranch in Liberty, Jason MacKay is a gruff, and isolated person. He doesn’t care for the company of other people, and can be called hostile at his best moments. The only real spot Jason has if for his baby sister, Patience MacKay, who is the only one he says more than two sentences to. He’s lived in the area for some time, starting up his ranch the Circle M, shortly after the War ended. Jason and his sister traveled from Illinois, where their family had lived for several generations. He fought for the Northerners, and led a small group of elite men.
patience june mackay. ALEXIS BLEDEL. RANCHER/HOUSEKEEPER. 16. FEMALE. Patience MacKay is a beautiful young lady that can transition from the perfect hostess to getting down and dirty on a cattle drive. Patience is gritty and has quite a bit of backbone, and she can fight with the best of them. She’s also a lady; knowing how to cook, clean, and act in most social situations. However, being as she lives in the middle of nowhere surrounded by cattle and sunshine, Patience doesn’t get to socialize that often. She does, though, help out her brother, albeit against his wishes. She will also admit, with a hopelessly romantic sigh and sparkle in her eye, that she is infatuated with Jake Warren.

kendall “ken” edward morrison. KEANU REEVES. GENERAL STORE OWNER & OPERATOR. 35. MALE. Ken Morrison is a very...well, “self kept” person. He minds his own business, but doesn’t care for fighting, especially in his store. He really had no part in the War, as he was running his store and keeping up the homestead here in Liberty. He is an easy person to get along with, especially when his wife, Grace Morrison is around. He’s deeply in love with her, and it shows to everyone. He’s also very protective of her and the people he cares about, and Grace often refers to his disposition like that of a bear; fierce looking and grumpy, but when you occupy him with something he’s happy and will leave you alone.
grace anne morrison. SANDRA BULLOCK. GENERAL STORE OWNER & OPERATOR. 30. FEMALE. Grace Morrison is very bright, and is a very sociable creature. She enjoys gossip and interacting with others, particularly if they have a good story or news. However, Grace is a no-nonsense woman, and is very practical. She and her husband, Ken Morrison, have been married for close to eight years, and wish desperately for children of their own.
amelia rose campbell. DELTA GOODREM.TEACHER. 20. FEMALE. Miss Campbell is an intriguing individual; after all, she was adopted off the orphan train to the local “madam” at the tender age of three. However, Amelia had a good childhood away from the brothel, though the constant reminder of what her adopted mother’s job was always followed her around. The townspeople of Liberty got used to it though, and accepted the sweet girl as one of their own. Amelia can be described as having a ‘quiet strength’. She’s soft-spoken and gentle, but not afraid to stand up for herself and she knows her own mind.
