Thought I'd start a thread to discuss mods people have tried. Try and include what you like or dislike about a mod, how easy or hard it is to use, and where to find it.

Cosmos - This was the first mod I used. At first I thought it was great. It was pretty easy to use right off the bat and had lots of features and extra buttons. Cosmos pretty much defined what mods should be and was constantly evolving and on the cutting edge and that led to its downfall. The developers sold their site and work to some company or other and nothing has been done with it since. Every patch that comes out now makes it more and more useless and clogs up your screen with tons of error messages when you log in. I finally stopped using it last night.

Sexy UI - I downloaded this last night from worldofwar.net and so far I'm pretty impressed. It took quite a while to move all the action bars, buttons, and whatnot to match my liking (like 3 hours). It didn't come with any instructions, so a lot of it was trial and error figuring out how to access/change its MANY features. It's a compilation mod and includes Auctioneer, Gatherer, Titan Panel, Gypsy Mod, Call to Arms, and a ton of others. I'll give a more detailed review of it after I use it for a while.

Servitude Resurection - This is a Warlock mod that helps with pet control and can also be found on worldofwar.net. Pre 1.6 patch, this was incredibly AWESOME. Post 1.6, it's still a great mod, but not as good as it used to be. It used to automatically make my fellhunter devour debuffs on me and my party and automatically spell lock its target. In the last patch, Blizz got rid of one of the script macros it used. That was the macro that made it automatic. The newest version of Servitude made some changes to its interface to try and compensate for the loss of such a sweet script command. Now, the automatic stuff is no longer automatic, but is still easy to use. The instructions for the mod tell you how to make two macro buttons to use to activate your pets' once automatic abilities. A dark sounding voice and a written warning now pop up with your combat feedback messages over your character's head. Examples of this with my fellhunter are "Debuffs detected (press primary)" and "Spelllock (press secondary)". Just press the macro button you're told to and you pet will take care of it. Yes, it's still like commanding the pet to do it yourself, but it's SOOO much better. For instance, when the mod detects a debuff, I just press the button and the fellhunter does the rest. I don't have to figure out who in my party or raid has the debuff, target them, command the fellhunter to devour the debuff, then retarget the mob or player I'm fighting, and command the fellhunter to attack them again. It's still a GREAT mod for warlocks, but I'm praying Blizz puts the macro back in the game or the developer figures out how to automate it again. It was so nice to be able to target another caster in battle grounds and sick my fellhunter on them like a fire and forget missile, then attack someone else. Poor casters (mages especially) never knew what hit them. Oh well, I just have to keep my attention focused on them now, which just means they'll die faster.

Atlas - This is included in the Sexy UI, but can be downloaded seperately from the same site. It gives you a mini-map button that causes a window to pop up with instance maps on it. You can select the instance and see a map of it with locations marked for important mobs or quest objectives along with the recommended level for the instance. It's easy to use and very handy. The only drawback is that it doesn't display your location on it, so you'll have to pay attention to your mini-map to figure out where on the map you are and where to go.

Shardtracker - Another warlock mod that can be downloaded from worldofwar.net. Really handy for keeping track of soul shards and sorting them. It also has mini-map buttons to make any of our stones and to equip/use/trade them as appropriate. It includes a soulstone countdown timer and an alarm to let you know the soulstone is ready to recast. If other party members are running shardtracker, it'll let you know if they have a healthstone or not, so you can see instantly if they've used it and give them another as soon as combat ends. Not a bad idea for every one in your party to run it, but I haven't been able to test this feature. The drawback to the feature is, if you have the party monitor on, as soon as you party up it sends whispers to every player in your party saying, "Shardtracker is requesting an update from SoAndSo" and this tends to really freak poeple out if they don't know what Shardtracker is. I turned this feature off because I got tired of explaining to people that it was a helpful mod and no I wasn't trying to hack them.

I used Cosmos also at first, but with what evic said it became more of a hassle. I am now using CTMod and Titan Panel and have not had any trouble with it.

I have the same experience with Cosmos. At first it was great, but then it was just too bloated for my liking. If you're into having everything you can possibly want in a mod, then Cosmos is definately a good choice.

I have used CTMod before and it is good but there aren't enough modifications you can do with it for me so I dropped it. I am now using GypsyMod, which you can download from GypsyMod Home. I have used it for a while and personally I like it. It has good modifications to it and I like how your portrait info is displayed. However, GypsyMod does have some downside such as no left side bars and things such as that. Also, it gets rid of the exp bar on the bottom and displays a small bar with numbers to indicate your experience.

Other mods I am currently using is decursive, which allows you to bind a key to it and everytime you hit the key it will automatically see if there is anyone that is cursed in your party and remove his/her curse. Very useful when you don't have time to check to see if anyone has curses. I also use Scrolling Combat Text, which makes it easier to see debuffs and what not you've just been hit with.

Lastly I use a mod called Gatherer. It's a useful mod that tracks all things that you have gathered, whether it be herbs, leather, ores, or even chests. It's a good way to see where the majority of a certain item you have gathered is. The only big problem is that it tends to clutter your minimap after you've used it a while and so I've chosen to turn it off on the minimap.

Whats this damage mod I read about on the wow forums?

It logs all damage in a party and ranks people. I'd like to know where I stand on how much healing I take and how much damage i do.

Can also be good at figuring out in the long run if tactical shifts are worth it.

Here's the link

DamageMeter

It's useful in a group to see how useful in terms of damage and healing you are. I haven't used it much but I'll probably download it and give it a try sometime.

I use none. Is there a real consensus about mods here in the guild? I know Blizzard propaganda seems rather anti-MOD at this point (citing security and other concerns...)

I used to use Atlas, but found it to be inaccurate as far as the number of people allowed in a raid and suggested levels for players. I don't know, I'm kinda with Thuvia on this one, I never used Cosmos, even when it was the flavor of the month. I never jumped on the Cosmos bandwagon. Atlas, I got because I thought it would be useful on Instance Day. Turned out, I didn't need it.

I've never been an fan of UI/mod compilations... feel like there's stuff there that I really don't need or want, so I get addons a la carte. Here's some of my favorites:

Atlas
Benecast
TitanBar
TitanBar - Guild
Auctioneer
Enchantrix
LootLink
HunterHelper (I think that's the name)
Wowreader (for updating profile on Allahkazam)
Autobuff

I thinks that's all...

Ditto to Nimb here. CTmod is a great, jack-of-all-trades kind of MOD. It doesn't take a lot of memory, it's easy to configure, and updates are out a day or two after patches, so it's kept up to date. I think the most usefull one that I've found however was the AutoCast mod. This can be configured to cast any self buffs (lightning shield autocast, weapon buffs, anything of that nature) all the time. only in combat, etc... and from what I understand, it can manage party rebuffs automatically too.. I don't have any to cast, so that's just something that I kinda sorta picked up sometime.. somewhere.. or something.

AutoCast FTW!

Hey Nimb, you were workin on that totem cast thing before your break.. did you ever get anywhere with that?

I'm using a couple mods listed already, but the main one that hasn't been listed that I use and love, is FlexBar. Built my flexbar customized for my warrior. Have a set of three buttons for food/bandages/potions that pop up when I drop below 60% health. Remapped buttons for stance changes with custom button configs on each stance, including a pop up button when my target dodges my attack to switch to battle stance (if not already in) and use overpower. As well as a pop up button for when my target is below 20% health for execute.
Takes a while to get used to flexbar commands, and how to make your buttons do what you want when you want, but gawd does it rock once you have it set up.

What are the weblinks for some of the better sites for mods? I have checked out CTMod but didn't see too much there other than CT_RaidAssist. The auctioneer mod sounds useful, but haven't heard of too much that may be mage friendly?

I found a fishing mod, that makes a audible ring when your bobber jumps in the water. That way you don't have to stare at the screen, which actually causes me some eye problems since I have a hard time keeping my eyes still and get headaches fast. (Been checked for stigmatisim)

That and the tacklebox type mods make fishing alot easier.

Sit at the desk, read a book with one hand on the mouse and get myself some pet food.

Just catching up on some of the forum topics smile.gif

As a Priest, I LOVE Fortify. You bind it to a key and it will cast fortify on your and your party along with shadow resistance (can toggle it off, though) and inner fire. I don't know what other classes it works with, but one button to keep the group fortified is awesome. It even has a button if you don't want to use a keyboard shortcut.

Quickloot is nice (I think it is part of cosmos, of which I very few enabled). It was really nice for my Rogue on pick pocket. The loot window shows up right under the mouse. Just rememeber to use the keyboard to pp rather then the hotbutton because the window is to low to use. Chests are kind of problematic if you don't put your mouse high on the screen. Use it, and you might know what I mean because you just click and the window keeps moving so the next item is under the mouse.

All in one Inventory- LOVE this. Part of Cosmos too I think (The cosmos It got included or is a part of Khaos /shrug if that means anything)

Flight path ones are great.

Sistor - Really awesome to. You bind it to a button. Hold the button down and click the group member you want to assist then hit the button to assist that person. I remapped my f button to it (shift f to use it the old way)

As a healer, is CT_raidassist something that will help me monitor various group memeber on the raid? I'm gonna check this one out.
