I think you spend all your gil on getting strange GP items :P

lol =x I made all of my gil back and then some with those strange GP items, until people realized that those same items weren't as useless as they thought! Back when blink bands were 120k I was raking the gil in. And gold purification was more for my CoP ls than for making gil, although I have to admit reraise earrings sold really well back then too.

Cloth ensorcellment... ok I plead the fifth. The person who put in the request in the first place didn't tip me ("want me to help you out with the cost for the key item" was how they put it... I should have just said yes or actually charged them for the synth after all that @#$%ing work). The second person I made an item for, using this key item, shouted /sh OMG THANK YOU SHALABABALA! YOU SAVED ME SO MUCH GIL! No tip.

I guess not charging people for synths means you get what you ask for, but damn.

Just an update to say that I've been taking notes on alot of the things I've been crafting lately (mainly T0-T1 synths that I've been synthing in hopes of HQ). I've been keeping track of the following information:

My skill level: Base + gear + support (if applicable)
Day: Day of the week in game
Moon: Moon %

I know I haven't collected enough information to prove anything, but I'm starting to notice that I tend to have better luck on certain days than others. Same with Moon phases. Granted this may just be a case of me seeing what I want to see which I can understand, but my overall luck has been showing otherwise. Example:

Since I last posted on this thread, I've HQ'd: Barone Cosciacles, Blessed Pumps and 2x Marid Belt in terms of T0-T1 synths. All of which occurred on the same game day (of the week, not literally same day). I've also done the above synths on other days for other people and had no luck whatsoever.

As for the moon phase thing, I don't have the information with me at the moment, but I'm pretty sure they all happened during the same moon phase. Also, during that same moon phase on a different day (I wasn't crafting at the time), a friend had told me he had HQ'd 2 items during skill up (he was suprised about the HQs).

I know I need to track more info to see if this is indeed the case (i.e doing X amount of synths each game day using the same factors and comparing results), but is there a chance that these superstitions could be more than that, even if it's just a miniscule change?

Just some food for thought since I'm trying to figure this crafting thing out as much as I can


As for strange GP items, I can safely say I'm never making Mist Pumps ever again! Between the 3 HQ Garish Pumps (still trying to sell a pair of them off) and the crappy GP for the Mist Pumps themselves compared to cost, it's soooooo not worth it.

Wow. I too get frustrated by people asking me what they should skill up on from said lv to desired lv. Personally i refuse them help and explain to them they need to learn how to pick desired skill ups while its less expensive so that they are not so hopeless at higher levels. As for the test overall "Do you suck at crafting" great post and i love how you referred to micro economics and gilsellers getting banned is not all its cracked up to be.

As for myself i suck at crafting lately just because havent had the desire to lately been so busy with other stuff cant wait to get back into it

yarg i noticed the same thing. I try to make my leathers at night most of the time and about moon phase 55% and i get a very nice skill rate. Just saying i am a firm believer in the whole face this direction during this phase on this day for the best skills.

Hi folks, and we've batted around the day-of-the-week/moon-phase/direction-faced factors ad nauseum and here are my "personal observations" after making literally thousands of stacks of shinobi-tabis over several years. It's an earth crys based synth and I'm 50 levels over cap. These are *observations* which are NOT scientific nor quantitative. This is from the seat of my pants synthing...

1) Firesday and Iceday seem to be the best days overall in hitting HQs even tho Darksday and Windsdays would theoretically be best since they're opposed to Earth.
2) Earthsday and Lightsdays would theoretically be the worst days to try to hit the HQ on and I think that's correct based on allll my synths.
3) I always face South for this synth. Dunno if this is just superstition but it's not that hard to do and why not if it MIGHT help(!)
4) I ignore moon phase.

BUT, you can hit a string of HQs on any given day and on any given moon phase. To this day, I still don't understand what the factors are. BUT, I don't have to keep track of these factors cuz here's what I do. I do two synths. If I hit an HQ, I keep going. If I get 2 NQs in a row, obviously whatever-those-factors are (including luck I'm sure) are NOT in place so I quit...wait for a bit, then try another 2 synths. I think my record was 14 HQs in a row but that's unusual. Usually I'll hit a streak of 4-10 HQs and then stop when I get the 2-NQ "sign."
