Title: Ffxiah.com Members' Features

Odango - January 11, 2007 11:27 PM (GMT)
I'm part of the closed beta for the FFXIAH.com members' section. The features are HOT! Just to give you a taste of the things you can do:

-configurable lists of items and characters for easy reference
-recipes with costs and calculations
-fill in "wanted" and "bazaar" lists for your character (like ffrecipe.com, but more useful IMO as people will see those links as they browse the AH from work/school)

I can't wait for this thing to launch. Scragg and the others are geniuses of feature and UI enhancements. This stuff is useful in ways you can't even begin to believe.

Skeematic - January 12, 2007 03:10 AM (GMT)
Is there any time frame for when they implement it for members. Im assuming there would be some sort of fee to become a member, but im up for it as long as its not to way out there :)

Odango - January 12, 2007 07:42 PM (GMT)
I'm not sure. They've certainly been taking their time on it. Their members' forum is pretty hopping with suggestions for enhancements (mostly minor). At this point I'd say they're mainly polishing what's there, I think any desirable big features are already in place.

I'm not sure what the cost will be, but I'd already asked them about getting a joint account, or a group account rate, for TheCraft members. If the price isn't too outrageous I would be happy to cover the cost.

I can't see it being too too high. So many FFXI players are kids/college students. I'm hoping it will seem like a perfectly reasonable price to us old folks with jobs. :P

Miyasha - January 19, 2007 12:44 AM (GMT)
Hehe, this is something that I'm definitely looking forward to :)

haha nice, name recognition ^^

Odango - February 2, 2007 06:21 PM (GMT)
one of the FFXIAH admins thinks the membership price will be $1-5 (I don't know if that's flat, monthly, or annually):

scragg, lead developer, chimes in later to guess what features will and won't be free.

Varg - February 4, 2007 01:10 AM (GMT)
too lazy to register and tell people how stupid they sound. None of the so called 'advantages' they're trying to complain about are at all valid.....knowing the cost and profit margin of a synth?! my god....that's so cheating....I can't use a device that would calculate this myself.....that'd take.....minutes using some sort of miracle number machine and a large squishy sponge-like organ inside a protective skull that processed information and was able to come to conclusions....don't have those lying around at all - nope.

I also would be more inclined to order it if the member's access allowed you to see the members who don't want to be seen - not to actually use the information - I'm just always nosy when someone has something they want to hide

Odango - February 4, 2007 08:11 AM (GMT)
I doubt that will be a feature. Certainly right now members don't get to see more or less.

note that the feature itself is not "hiding" your transactions, it's just displaying an arbitrary amount (I sometimes set it temporarily to 100 to look further back in my own history). So it wouldn't make sense to have a counterpart un-hiding feature.

Ikonic - February 4, 2007 03:52 PM (GMT)
I would be most interested in a feature to see my sales of my main and mules. This works well to see if something has sold or not without having to log in to check. At the same time the ability to hide my sales from others is nice since I don't really want others being able to see what I use to make gil.

Odango - February 4, 2007 07:02 PM (GMT)
you can already do the former now, and you'll never need to pay to do it.

Ikonic - February 4, 2007 07:29 PM (GMT)
I was thinking more for a page that lists all the mules instead of having to search each one.

Odango - February 5, 2007 04:42 PM (GMT)
one of the members' features is Player Sets, so you can add all your characters to a set and then have instant access to them. Note you still need to click on each one to see its transactions, which may not be what you're asking about.

but if that would already be sufficient for you, you might as well just make a "bookmarks" file on your PC that links to each character's page. You could do that without being a member.

in other news, apparently FFXIAH.com has opened recipe calculations to the public for now. It will go back to being a paid feature when paid access starts, but for now, knock yourselves out.

Odango - March 13, 2007 11:27 PM (GMT)
I notice that there's now a "Register" link on FFXIAH.com. I don't know what this does, but I assume now you can get an account and verify your characters, add a bazaar comment, and things like that. I don't know what (if any) of the other features are still locked away for paid access.

if anyone registers, please let me know what unpaid registered access is like.

Dragonhope - March 14, 2007 01:50 AM (GMT)
I'll be trying to register when I get a chance...I saw it there earlier today.

Skeematic - March 14, 2007 02:15 AM (GMT)
I registered. I also verified my character, so far only Skeematic tho. I can do almost everything on my page, except for a comment and an avatar.

Ikonic - March 14, 2007 07:28 PM (GMT)
I registered today and am unpaid. So far the only thing that I've noticed restriction on is Avatar URL and Comment; both of which I cannot access.

Otherwise take a look at mine if you want to see any differences from the public view.

My FFXIAH

Odango - March 14, 2007 08:35 PM (GMT)
interesting. I also noticed someone else on Midgard -- whom I assume wasn't a paid member previously -- with a 0-length ffxiah.com history which only means one thing. I see from your accounts that the bazaar, char verification, friends, LS are all unlocked...

are they planning on disabling all the rest of the features you guys accessed when the paid stuff goes into effect? That seems like a good way to hook people, but it might've been nice to explicitly call it a free trial (I haven't seen any blog or forum posts about that yet).

it's weird that unpaid members are blocked off from the LEAST important functionality.

for reference, my menu on the right says

I have the same things showing on mine.

Any idea what Item Sets and Player Sets are for?

Odango - March 14, 2007 10:12 PM (GMT)
it's just a convenient way to group item lookups and player lookups into "sets". You can have multiple sets of each and items/players can appear in more than 1 set.

I have, for example, an Item Set named "profit" that I use to quickly check up on markets that are sometimes profitable. I have a Player Set named "Competition" that I use to spy on certain crafters to see if they know something I don't.

that said, they aren't "for" anything in particular; I'm sure plenty of members are using them for different purposes.

Ikonic - March 15, 2007 01:18 AM (GMT)
Sweet, I messed around with sets again today. Thanks for the explanation. I wasn't understanding the use or how to set them up before, but now I do. Quite handy to put a set of players/items together.

review of FFXIAH.com features (Maiev is another beta tester)!! Still reading it.

Hi folks, boy, that FFXIAH.com has been great! I can check my sales from work now...not good for compulsive folks like me tho. I can see my competition grabbing sales while I'm stuck at work and unable to reload my AH slots.

I donated last week but so far haven't seen any acknowledgement. Once I see that the web site IS getting the donation, think I'll donate more. Great idea and nice features. Too nice actually with all synths being automatically calculated for profit/loss. Now ANY crafter can get a good idea of which synths are profitable and by how much, or not...so now figuring out which synths to consider is a no-brainer. Waaaayyyy too simple IMHO. ^ ^

As always, Happy Crafting folks! :D M

Odango - March 22, 2007 04:51 PM (GMT)
another update: I think this feature is in beta, but now there is a "PM" link next to your name on your character's page in on FFXIAH.com. This is probably most useful if someone can fulfill an item on your Bazaar/Wanted pages. I notice that some have this link and some don't, so I assume the difference is whether you've registered on the FFXIAH.com forums (seeing as how that's where it PMs you).

I'll post up again if people have used it to contact me, which will be a better gauge of its usefulness.

EDIT: I should point out that you need to click on Link Forum Account after logging in to FFXIAH.com (not the forums) for this to show up.

Dragonhope - March 23, 2007 01:45 PM (GMT)
Hm...I tried putting up Lindwurm Skin on the wanted list and it gave me an error...

Odango - March 23, 2007 05:19 PM (GMT)
there's a known issue with adding items to the Bazaar/Wanted list by typing in the box. Easiest way is to search for your item in the Item Search box (while logged in), and then click (Add to) "Bazaar" (it's next to the Add to Item Set dropdown).

Dragonhope - March 23, 2007 11:33 PM (GMT)
The skin wasn't in the box...>.<

Odango - March 24, 2007 08:58 AM (GMT)
I mean add it from here.

http://www.ffxiah.com/item.php?id=1277&sid=29

and you get there by typing Lindwurm Skin in the Item Search box.

Masse - March 26, 2007 08:22 AM (GMT)
I registered my chars today, or at least my mains.

Odango - April 12, 2007 08:11 AM (GMT)
haha, there's a joke feature that tracks who has the most friends (people who call you a friend, not how many people you added to your own list). TheCraft ftw!!!

It appears you can add yourself to your own friends list and earn a point as well. :P

Skeematic - April 12, 2007 09:57 AM (GMT)
I think its funny that DH has 0 listings up, but is very consistant at being one of the most searched characters :D

it's not weird at all, *precisely* because DH is on so many people's friendlists. If someone is clicking around my page or Skww's or any of DH's other friends, they might follow the link to DH's page. And I think most of the people who list DH are well-known crafters and thus likely to be randomly searched out by others.

having stuff listed in bazaar/wanted probably helps too

Dragonhope - April 12, 2007 11:37 PM (GMT)
Oh...that might explain it. I don't know who else is registered on FFXIAH.com or i'd add them onto my friend's list too:p

*feels like a celebrity*

Miyasha - April 13, 2007 12:04 AM (GMT)
Hehe, I'm on it as well. FFXIAH has become one of my more frequented sites :)

Maiev - April 15, 2007 08:37 AM (GMT)

Ganked for what? Crafting crosses servers! Anyone's welcome here and are free to share their views/opinions and such. No garuntee that it won't be contested though as some of us love to nitpick at things for definite proofs ^^;

Do you know who Scragg is by the way? Seems to be on your server o.o

Odango - April 15, 2007 10:11 PM (GMT)
no ganking. Welcome!
