So, I had a cool idea. Here it is.

In our world the supernatural, the sorts of things from legends and folklore. You know the things. Vampires, werewolves, nymphs, demons, ghosts, magi etc. Well, it turns out they do exist, though a little differently than the legends say. Turns out, things get lost on translation or as stories are passed down.

You can be either an elder, someone who has already been turned into one or was born it and knows it. A newbie, someone who just was turned and is at my mercy as to what they have become and how. And finally an informed, a normal person who is part of that world, or soon will be pulled into it without being changed into something beyond an ordinary human being.

Ok, more info now that I am not posting on my phone.

As stated above the supernatural exists, just does a very good job of staying hidden. Just about anything from mythology, legends, etc is possible so long as the way it manifests could inspire the stories told about them and would be able to be hidden in the modern world.

Three titles exist that are usable. Veterans are people who were either born special or have acquired it somehow and know it. Newbies are people who are special but don't know it yet, their powers haven't manifested or have only recently been made into a special but don't know it yet. Vanillas are regular people who have no special quality of any sort, they are normal humans.

I would prefer Newbies, they will be more interesting because I will pick what they manifest as. This might be by dice roll, picking something that fits, or by picking something I think would be amusing based on what you define your character as.

In short, when making a character, the difference between a Vanilla and Newbie will be whether or not you want the character to stay normal or have me pick a supernatural type for them to be. Veterans are for people who want to be a supernatural being but have a specific preference. I am allowing it, but things will be dull if everyone is a Veteran.

The setting is Grand Lake, a large city in the American mid-west in modern day. For the most part most of the people are normal humans, the few supernaturals are there because they happen to be there, for the most part.

I will be playing an Ancient, someone who has been around for several centuries and she basically is in control of the city when it comes to supernaturals. Perhaps not so much in control but rather she's at the top of the food chain and is respected as the one with the most power. In short, anyone who knows she's there knows not to piss her off. That said, super's aren't that common so there aren't many established Veterans in the city anyway.

Name: Elsebeth "Elsie"
Title: Ancient
Age:500+ years old
Type: Vampire
Backstory:

Elsebeth, also known as "Elsie" was born in the mid 1400's in Germany. Her father was a missionary so she often moved around a lot. When she was 14 her family was swept up in the wars and became victims of Vlad the Impaler, a Legendary vampire who turned her into a vampire, though not intentionally. She, being young, was used as food and then her "corpse" put on display to ward off invaders. However when it was found that she was, in fact, still "alive" several days later she became, in a way, his student.

Eventually she crossed the Atlantic to the Americas with a group of early settlers, trying to escape Europe and a bit of trouble she managed her way into. She was always on the move as she was perpetually 14. She was also one of the few specials who managed to survive the witch hunts.

After the founding of the United States of America she moved west and took advantage of the booming economy by starting up a major lumbering business, from behind the scenes. When it eventually closed she had enough money to invest and has lived peacefully off it ever since. Incidentally her business was almost solely responsible for the creation of the city of Grand Lake, as the town practically formed around it.

She lives in a large mansion in the city that is out of the way enough to avoid becoming legend, so far. She has two care takers/maids who have been with her for almost a century. One is an undead, Taylor, and the other is a Dhampir, Anne. Elsie is known by virtually all specials in the city and few, if any, would think of doing anything she would be against.

Vampires require blood for sustenance and strength. But they do not have to kill their victims. However killing them is safer as it will sustain them for at least a week, if not longer. Elsie only drinks enough to keep going and must feed at least three times a day because of it. Vampires are also extremely sensitive to the sun, though it will not turn them to cinder, however they will sunburn in under a minute and get worse. Their eyes are also light sensitive. They heal rapidly, however, after feeding a lot. The only real way to kill them is a wooden steak through the heart. They do have superhuman strength. They have limited telepathic abilities. These include the ability to divert people's attention from the vampire, though it is limited in scope and is imperfect, but works for moving around unnoticed. The ability to alter memories. The ability to influence a normal person, though it is limited. And the ability to read minds, but generally only surface thoughts and it runs the risk of also working in reverse, particularly when delving deeper. Being an Ancient she is better than most vampires at all of it.
