i ripped off my stator cover cause my z-400 is only sparking once no matter how long i hold the button in it wont spark again and if i shut the key off and turn it back on it will give one really strong spark but no more and if i keep doing it it does the same thing...well i finally mustered up the courage to tear into the thing and my question to you is SHOULD THERE BE OIL ON MY STATOR?? and if there isnt what could have cause this...my stator was covered in oil and i died it off and put it back together and tried to pull start it and nothing happened...could my case have broke cause ive heard about the 03 z's having troubles with that case breaking and causing the stator to fail...also there were a couple small chunks of what looked to be my case when the oil ran out...i shot some air into it and if i shoot it at the bottom oil blows out everywhere...please help me diagnose this thing if u can

This is something that I am also curious about. My 400 stator is covered in oil also, but it runs fine. Its been that way ever since I bought it.
It would be caused by a bad left side crank seal. |

i was told my problem is the cdi box...but then i had another guy say i needed a stator...there are gears in there and they need oil...i think all i need to get running again is a new cdi box...

sorry man...didnt see this thread yet. most likely cause is the cdi....what brand is it? stock/aftermarket?
i do believe there is supposed to be oil there...there are quiete a few bikes that have oil in the stator housing, i know for sure the warrior is one of them. |

supposedly they are supposed to overheat and melt something in the sensor and it will actually kill the spark of the engine...cause on top of this spark problem my coolant light is on and my coolant is full...
