Rules & Guidelines for Solaria Version 2 Forums

Preamble

The Sv2 forums are privately owned and their use is extended on the understanding that the user will follow certain rules. These rules are also enforced in a certain way.

If you break these rules, you will receive at most one and only one courtesy warning. If you break the rules again, you will receive a two week suspension. If you post during the suspension, it will be made permanent as per normal forum rules. If your rules violation is too blatant, you will be suspended or banned without warning.

If a thread is becoming too hostile, it will receive at most a single warning to "cool it." If this warning is ignored, it will be closed. Starting a new thread to replace it will result in a warning or suspension, as per the first section. If the thread is too hostile it will be closed without warning.

In addition to the rules listed below, listen to our moderators and administrators when they make a request. Refusing to follow a request from them will most likely get you banned from the forums.

If you wish to dispute a moderator decision, do it via PM, or email the Administrators. Trouble Tickets posts of this nature will be pulled for staff review, and further action may be taken.


RULES

These are numbered for reference, but fall in no particular order.

0) First and foremost, remember this: Do NOT make personal attacks. You can attack ideas, but don't attack people. Additionally, an attack on a Forum Moderator or Administrator, shows a particular lack of regard for the rules, and will get you banned rather quickly.

1) Post in the appropriate forum. We have separate forums for various types of discussion for a reason. Please respect that.

2) Ads go in the Ads/Open Promo forum. Promotions go in the Ads/Open Promo forum. This rule is stated in addition to Rule 1 because people constantly try to avoid it, so we want it to be very clear.

If the sole purpose of your post is to draw attention to a product, service, game, or game group, it does not belong in the Sv2 Open forum. Such posts almost always belong in Ads/Open Promo. It does not matter if you aren't associated with the product, service, or whatever. You want to promote something, do it in Ads/Open Promo.

If, however, you spam the forums or its members through posts, PMs or email, you are likely to get banned. If you post or send spam about sites that don't allow spam advertising, you will be banned immediately.

3) Do not post a message in the wrong forum, and say that you know it's the wrong forum but you're posting there for greater traffic. That shows that you enjoy annoying people, since you are intentionally ignoring the system. Do not ask the Moderators not to move a post to the appropriate forum just because you want more traffic for your post. Not only are you being intentionally annoying, but you're asking for special treatment in return for being annoying, which makes you look even worse.

4) Polls created with the Polls feature of the forum software belong in the Polls forum. If the poll generates useful conversation - really useful conversation - the thread may be allowed to stand on its own without the poll. However, active polls go into the Polls forum.

5) Messages which consist of slurs against people, or groups of people, based on race, religion, ethnicity, nationality, gender or sexual orientation will not be tolerated.

6) Impersonation of any other forum member (registered or not), or of any industry celebrity or Sv2 team member, will not be tolerated.

7) Any post that assists in breaking U.S. law, including asking for "burned" copies or other pirated materials, will be removed. Messages attempting to convince other forum members to break laws will also be removed. Breaking the law includes reposting content from sites that do not allow such a thing. Users posting any unlawful messages may be subject to administrative action and/or referred to the proper authorities.

8) Pornography, whether images or links to adult websites, is inappropriate in the forums. Don't post it.

8a) Linking to a site that punishes linking (such as Somethingawful.com, which replaces any intended link with an inappropriate picture) is not allowed. Don't link to such sites.

9) Posting a private email, message, or series of messages for public viewing is not allowed. The only exceptions will be when the permission of each person involved is given to the poster. Claiming to have the permission to post without having proof of such is grounds for immediate banning and possible legal action.

10a) Solicitations for money - either requests for donations or solicitations for commissions - will be considered to be advertisements, and will be moved to Ads/Open Promo. Sv2 does not endorse such posts in any way, and cannot be held responsible for the validity of any claims made therein. If you want to give your money away, that's your decision.

11) While political discussion is considered to be part and parcel of Tangency Open use, such use is a privilege, given that the site's mandate is RPG-related and not politics-oriented.



Keep in mind that Sv2 reserves the right to periodically purge unused account names from the system. At this point, we'll be looking to remove accounts that haven't been used for a year or more. If you want to keep your user name, post once in a while, or it'll be up for grabs again when we delete it.
