Finally, I am able to apply to this program. They ask where I would like to be placed in Japan.

Any suggestions?

Does anyone on here live in Japan?

Anyone on here applying to them too? Maybe we will see each other.

Thanks,
DN

Hi Digital Nogistune !
I live in Japan so I am trying to answer to your question but I live in Tokyo and
I haven't lived in other regions myself, so I don't know if I can give you satisfactory answer ... do you like cold weather?
If so, nothern part of Japan might be nice, you'll see lots of snow and people are
nice and they have great scenary.
Tokyo is fun and convenient. Osaka is fun too. Food is nice. :P

Kyoto and Nara both have lots to see. Historical sites and all ...

It really depends on what you would like to see and experience ...
But I really hope you'll have great time !!

That is cool. There is a possible chance that I would be put near or in Tokyo, especially f I said a friend lived there. Plus I am more familiar with the Tokyo area than any other area since when I visited I was near there. Plus, my bank is near there.

Actually I won't be visiting I will be living there for the year or longer if I get re contracted.

LOL. Maybe you and I will be able to deliver something to TK that we couldn't send in the mail.

If I get the job, I will tell you when I will be in Tokyo, since that is where we will be put up for about 3 days or so.

At last I would finally be able to meet one of the members on this forum. If I haven't met any of you before. Any of you live in GA?

I live in the WA country (in Osaka) but I have no idea where GA is. :D

I've never worked for JET, but over the years, I've met many people that did. That seems to be a good deal to start in Japan, especially now as the economy is bad and jobs for foreigners really few.

The only place to avoid is the inaka (boondocks). It's 80% of territory but only 3% of human population. It's full of bears and of mukade.
(Posted Image)
The photo shows kawaiii babies of mukade. They grow much bigger in inaka. How do I enlarge the photo ?

Well, Japanese people younger than 95 would refuse to move there, the others just forgot why they left. Plus, JET don't want you to drive a car (if you managed to get one), so the assistants are completely isolated, stuck in a village with just a school and a pachinko.

bangwall

For the first year at least, it's better to live in a city or nearby. I hope you can get Tokyo if that's your choice. Probably I'd try to live in a seaside suburb place like Hakodate or Matsue... er, I meant Yokohama if I had to be in Kanto.
No, I'm kidding, that's nice in Tokyo too, or ou friend Creme wouldn't live there. ***

I'm sure you can do a lot of tourism if you want. It's well known that teachers are always on holidays and they find pretexts like the flu to close the schools. Take any opportunity to do week-end trips.
The only places I have not been yet are the remote islands like Okinawa as I never found the way to hitchhike that far (Takeshi, if are you going there in your private jet, pick me up on the roof of my building). And it's cheaper to fly directly to Taipei. :P

Well good luck on your project ! If you pass in Kansai or have more questions you can PM me.

Krikri

*** There is a silly (and humouristic) rivalry between Kansai and Kanto. We always say the other one is bad. Never take it seriously.

GA is the state of Georgia in America.

What is WA?

JET's have cars and we can drive them if the school we work for says it is okay.

I would rather not drive though. I like walking to where I need to go to. I will get an international drivers license anyway, just in case.

和 wa means Japan, and harmony, in Japanese.
You'll see it very often. "wa-shoku" = Japanese restaurant, etc.

I didn't know GA for Georgia.

If you live in a city, you don't need a car.

Bye,

Krikri :wave

Hopefully, I will be put in a city. I really do not want to drive in Japan, unless I really have to. Of course, I may get an international drivers license, before I go, just in case.

By the way, is SimplyTK group on Facebook?

Hey you don't have to worry.
I found it much much more difficult & scary to drive in LA than in Tokyo !
It's true.

I sent you an email did you receive it ?
Anyway if you're coming to Tokyo I'd be pleased if you let me know.

Yeah, I got it. I had to remember what email I had on this list.

Thanks for reassuring me though.

That would be pretty cool to have a friend near me when I get there.

When I get the job, I will tell you. I know I would be staying in Tokyo for at least 3 days because that is where orientation takes place.

Everyone please wish me luck.

Okaaayyyyyy...........

The system says my application did not get there, but I called the post office and they say that it did and that the scanner just broke from all the packages. THe post person had to enter them in manually.

I won't know for sure till mid February or late January.

AH well,

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I will be at work.....for the rest of this week.
