I was reading the fifth book in this remarkable series, when I suddenly noticed the refernce to snakes. Basically the Aes Sedai (who are the series' version of wizards/witches, although they are far more powerful) wear what are known as "Great Serpent Rings" to show that they are fully-fledged Aes Sedai. This is a refernce to their wisdom, their cunning and their apparent agelessness. I am pleased to say this, as it evidently holds snakes in an interesting light, not just evil. The Aes Sedai work for the good of the Light (aside form a few, who have turned to the "Balck Ajah"), but many distrust them.

...this book series annoys the hell out of me, because my friends were OBSESSED with it, and spoke of nothing else other than it all the time. So I grew an irrational dislikeness of them.

Convince me otherwise that I should read them happy.gif;;
I already bloody know the whole freakin' stories anyway ¬_¬ It's so annoying when people do that...They LIVED for that book series...

Ouu, if you like those, you might like Fire Bringer and The Sight by David Clement Davies. Fire Bringer is a sort of realism/fantasy ish novel about the life of Red Deer, and their spiritual beliefs and things. Very much Watership Down with Deer. The Sight follows the same story, but with Wolves instead of Red Deer. Both are very good reads, but I prefer Fire Bringer. Worth a read happy.gif The Sight has a sequel, but I haven't read it yet.

NIMH is great, I love it...such a short and good little book happy.gif Like the AoFW series, the shortness and awesomeness of the books...Nice for a quick read happy.gif Mmmmm

Hunter's Moon is good too, it's about a fox. Have you ever read Bambi? Or The Fox and the Hound? The original novels, I mean? They are worth a read too, if you can find them.

I love animal stories. Tales from Watership Down is nice to read too, certainly not as good as Watership Down, but full of nice little sub stories...And Stray is a nice book too, about the life of a stray cat...

And of course, anything by Ruyard Kipling is awesome, although I know you love his stuff anyway! Heheh. Or Roald Dahl, or Dick King Smith...My childhood heroes!

The Mouse and his Child is a good book too, and Whitefang...Gwaaah, so many lovely childhood memories...

Sorry I'm feeling so nostalgic right now!

Have you read any of those?

I knew Bambi was a story, but I didn't know F&H was. Kipling was the reason for my love of snakes! My favorites out of the Jungle Books are Kaa's Hunting, Rikki-Tikki-Tavi (the one that started it all for me wub.gif ), The King's Ankus, and The White Seal. The Elephant's Child and other Just So stories are cute too. I've read a little Roland Dahl...like Witches XD.gif (his daughter writes adult novels depressed.gif ) There's a whole NIMH series written by the dude's (grand?)daughter or something.

Eeeee! Yeah I love the Just So Stories! I always loved The Cat Who Walked by himself the best...happy.gif And how the leopard got his spots...And the rhino one...
Is the elephant's child the one where the crocodile offers to try to stretch the elephant's trunk? And the Limpopo river? Hehehee! Wow, I haven't read these in years... Wow, childhood memories...I wonder what happened to my treasure trove of Just So Stories and other Ruyard Kipling goodies? Hehe, yeah I like Rikki Tikki Tavi too...his stories are great...What was the one about the army of monkeys? I can't remember...something about drawing a circle around you to protect yourself...maybe that wasn't even Kipling...

Hmmm...Tiger! Tiger! I liked that part too happy.gif

To move back OT...
There's a good reason why your friends are banging on about it Calisty.... it's a great series. Can't beleive that they've ruined the story for you though....

Heh, yeah it sucks when people do that.
I must admit, it is a good, if not, great sounding series of books, but I just couldn't sit down and read them all now because I know what freakin' happens every step of the way O_o
What, are there about 10 books altogether? I can't remember...happy.gif;;

I might sit down and read through them all at some point, just for the sake of reading, but gack, they freakin' lived those books...They knew them off by heart and everything, it just drove me nuts laugh.gif
