Running, they were always running from her. Why were they running? Did they know secrets about her, about poor, lonely Trichogaster? They must know something, to be running away from her like they were. Everyone was out to get her--she'd known that for a long, long time now--but these wretched little crawling, two-legged things especially. These had pleaded with her, begged her to spare their lives. "We've come here on accident," they screamed, "we're innocent," they shouted. But Trichogaster knew better. The Voice had told her, and The Voice never lied.
They've come to torture you for information, and then they will kill you.
Oh, how she loved The Voice; the good, loving voice that was always telling her such useful things. Of course she had suspected that these strangers were up to no good, but The Voice had confirmed it.
So she'd chased them all the way to the water, all the way to the one place where they could never outrun her or hide from her. Even if she wasn't looking as well as she once had, in the water she was at home. It didn't weigh her down, or hurt her feet when she walked. Water was second in her affections only to The Voice, and that was only because water couldn't take the voices away.
"Please," one of the little crawling things croaked. "Please, I have children!"
The tainted water-dragon tilted her head to one side, listening. "Please, fleas, trees... trees have leaves, leaves die die die and faaaalll down..."
The thing that had spoken looked even more terrified than before.
"Little things coming to get me, coming to get meeee, but no, no, I will not tell them all my secrets."
Trichogaster added. "No no nooooo."
It occured to her that there were more of the nasty little things than she could handle on her own. She'd been so eager to stop them from hurting her that she'd brought too many... too many of them might overpower her and hurt her, and she didn't want that.
"We'll wait," she mumured as she pushed them into the rancid muck of the Stagnant Oasis, "we'll wait until someone else comes to help us..."
