Basilisks

General group size: Roams alone, rarely find two in same place

Passive or Aggressive: Very dangerous. (request staff permission to encounter)

Description: Long, eight-legged snakes, measuring from 5-20 ft, they have a deadly bite, even without the powerful venom. Usually in dark shades of any color, with strong scales. Unlike in many stories they don’t make you drop dead. Basically they turn you into stone if they catch your eyes with theirs.

Where commonly found: lives in caves and dark environments. Most populated in the northlands, and westlands.

Manticore

General group size: Solitary.

Passive or Aggressive: Very Dangerous (request staff permission to encounter)

Description: Manticores are large (often nearly twice the size of the average horse), extremely violent creatures. Possessing the torso and leg-build of a very large feline, and the armored stinger-tail of an enormous scorpion, the Manticore is a deadly beast. But it is not these features that many recall when bringing this creature to mind, it is the distinctive human-esque face that rests upon this creature's head. Often adorned with thick curling horns and dear-like ears, their faces, while beastly and violent-looking, have the definite structure of a humans with many rows sharp fangs. Females lack the distinctive shaggy beard of males, but possess a pair of leathery wings to make them fearsome hunters. Manticores are mostly found in mottled shades of sandy brown, gray, or tan, though rare all-black specimens have been reported.

Where commonly found: The deep desert of Assaria. Make lairs in rocky outcroppings or on top of large plateaus.

Wyvern

General group size: Solitary. Mating pairs stay together for a few days at most.

Passive or Aggressive: Very dangerous. (request staff permission to encounter)

Description: Dragon-esque creatures with two sets of limbs. The hind legs are powerful and long with sharply curved talons and the forelimbs are specialized to form wings. The can live many many years, with 200 seeming to be a maximum lifespan, and can grow to be around 30 feet. Their heads are blunt and rounded with only a small lumpy horn on the ends of their noses. Wyverns have many very tiny (in relation to their body size) teeth which they use to tear their prey into bits. They are covered in thick hide, not scales, and have long, pointed spines running the length of their bodies with whip-like tails that end in a simple yet deadly poisonous barb. Colors are usually dark with mottled splotches resembling stripes in a deeper hue than the rest of their bodies. Wyverns birth live young, despite their lizard-like appearance and are able to fend for themselves within the space of a few hours.

Where commonly found: Mountainous regions are this beasts main territory, though they can also be found in heavily forested areas. They prefer cold environments, though are a diurnal beast, unable to see very well at night, dusk, and twilight.

Bonasus

General group size: Roams in herds ranging from 3 to 7.

Passive or Aggressive: Aggressive (staff permission not required to encounter)

Description: Bonasus (Plural: Bonasi) are large bison-type creatures that stand nearly twice the height of a man. They have heavily muscled chests, and limbs, making them powerful and dangerous beasts. Thick horns protrude from the head, curling behind the ears and forward again, giving the bonasus two very dangerous front-facing weapons. They have cloven feet, usually covered in thick fur, and sport a horse-like mane from the head to mid-back. Their tails are thick and relatively long, tipped in hard, club-like protrusions. The top of a bonasus' muzzle, shoulders, back, and thighs are covered in a shell-like growth of the skin, offering excellent protection. Admittedly, bonasi are not very intelligent, and are liable to attack anything of another species that moves. Rutting bulls have been known to kill each other during mating competitions and then go on berserk rampages, taking down anything in their path. The strangest thing about these creatures, however, is that, due to a type of bacteria found exclusively in their digestive systems, the dung of a bonasus can easily catch fire of its own accord. This is only if the specimen in question has recently eaten a certain type of thistle grass, whose chemicals react with the bacteria, causing combustion upon contact with oxygen.

Where commonly found: Grassy environments or areas sparsely populated with trees and shrubs.

Scutra

General group size: Solitary

Passive or Aggressive: Aggressive (staff permission not required to encounter)

Description: Coming in a variety of colors for the various habitats they make their homes in, Scutra (more commonly known as Mantises) are insects that can grow to be as big as a small dog. With long, strong limbs and a pair of hooked tibia. In all honesty, their just larger and beefier versions of their small Praying Mantis cousins. And a bit more angry, too.

Where commonly found: Warmer environments with lots of scrub or trees.

Cerberus

General group size: Roams in packs of around 7 members.

Passive or Aggressive: Aggressive, but can be tamed and used as a mount if raised from a pup.

Description: Huge carnivores with a close resemblance to wolves, they are extremely muscular and sport three heads branching out on short necks from their forequarters. They also have a trio of scaled tails which are reasonable prehensile. Their fur is often long and coarse, especially around the nape and belly, and it can come in a variety of colours. Black and dark grey are common, but cerberi can also be found in shades of crimson and occasionally white. Simple markings are not unheard of. Cerberi often reach immense sizes, easily weighing 2000-3000lbs or larger. On average they tend to be 6ft at the shoulder and have nasty temperaments that suit a Tainted rider.

Where commonly found: Only found in Desolation territory, usually on the plains or forested areas. Rarely found in mountainous regions.
