Hi, I'm Beccy and I'm new(ish) to keeping rats.

Mary from Ralston Rats set us up with a couple of rescue boys (Moriarty and Toby) a few months ago and we got hooked pretty fast... and ended up with 6 in total! The Chunk and Tips were also rescues and two baby boys, Dozer and Crowley came from Mary's litter at the time.

Moriarty is a lively one, not afraid of anyone even if he hasn't met them before. He's the boss of the cage. His leadership style is laid back and will only fight if someone else starts it. He likes to wrestle with your hands :D

Toby is a lovely little shy guy. We had trust issues to begin with, he would bite anyone who went anywhere near him (but if a hand of a creature 2-300+ times bigger than me tried to pick me up I'd bite it too). With lots of hugs and patience he now cuddles up next to us and goes to sleep.

The Chunk is the biggest of the boys, Mary had him snipped for his aggression and I think the other boys pick on him a little for it now. He will try to climb into your mouth if he smells anything food your breath... or maybe he just wants to be a dentist when he grows up.

Tips is our big-eyed shy guy. Big, beautiful black eyes. He doesn't like to be picked up or touched much, but wont argue with you once you've got a hold of him. He likes to start wrestling matches with anyone he's quite enough to catch up with.

Dozer and Crowley are two little boys that we fell in love with when we went to pick up our second rescues.

Dozer is a sleepy little boy who is so laid back for the majority of the time you can just hold him in your hand and he'll just sit there. He is also the main culprit in the bullying of the Chunk. He likes to try to get behind the sofa and under the coffee table, although he's gotten bigger since he came home with us so it's getting harder and harder for him to do that. We should have called him Tarzan because he likes to climb across the top of the cage with just his front paws.

Crowley is very lively, he's our little free-runner. He likes to climb on the cage, on the shelves, up the DVD rack, up the CD rack. We really have to keep an eye on him, he's got a habit of getting into places he's not really supposed to be and likes to try to escape from the cage.

Not really much about me, more about our ratty-children 'Doh'

Hi Beccy, nice to see you here, your rats sound like so much fun! :D

I have 7 rescue rats at the moment, some from an RSPCA emergency rescue in Lincoln, and some that were surrendered to YRC, they are all brilliant - 6 girls and 1 neutered boy.

Moriarty sounds so like my Iris, she loves everybody and every animal, she is best friends with one of my dogs Dougie, they play together and love each other! :)

I'm so glad that Toby is getting better, hopefully he will become much more confident with time. So funny about Chunk - Iris wants to be a dentist too! :D

The others sound fab, and I bet they keep you on your toes! What cage do you have for them?

My lot are far too spoiled, they have their own room, where they can do what they they like, I dread to think if we sold our house what anyone would think! :(Posted Image)

He already is getting better, I used to be really nervous when he sniffed at my toes or fingers but now I just let him climb all over me.

He also grooms Colin's beard :)

Six for playtime each day is a handful, but a jolly one. Home is a Ferplast Jenny, we bought a Liberta Rodent Happy House but the bottom is a grate, not happy with that. Looking for a suitable replacement for the bottom. It was billed as having a plastic bottom but when we got it we discovered it was a pull out tray underneath the grate :( I wanted a Savic Royal Suite but it was far too big for our wee flat.

The Jenny has roughly the same size footprint as the Happy House, I think later on today I'll see if I can maybe use the base for the Jenny in the Happy House. Otherwise I'll be looking for a company that manufactures bespoke plastic products.

We've only got one bedroom but we will look for a bigger place once I've found a new job... specifically so they can have a whole room to themselves. It's funny how, when I moved in, we just shifted all of Colin's belongings around and crammed mine in beside it. Now we've got the boys we want to move to get a bigger flat- for them! :(Posted Image)
