Emma sat in the Library, book wide open in front of her on the table. She had a Charms essay due the next day, and was attempting to read up on the subject by going to the library, but her mind kept wandering, so concentrating seemed to e a difficult thing to achieve. Her eyes stared down blankly at the book, realizing that there were words on the page, but unable to pick any of them up or process them. All she could think about was River. His face would continuously pop into her head, smiling at her, making her wish he was there beside her. Holding her. Tickling her and making the librarian mad at them while they stifled their laughter. Emma sighed contently at the thought, smile forming across her lips, dark eyes lifting from her book to stare at the entrance of the library, thinking about how nice it would be if he walked in at that moment. She didn't quite know where he was, though she suspected it might be Quidditch practice, since that was generally the only reason they weren't together. Granted, Emma would generally go out and watch his practice, but, again, she wasn't even sure if it was going on. River probably told her. In fact, he probably told her a couple of times, but Emma's life had been such a blur lately, that he could have told her that the Headmistress had been murdered and she wouldn't have noticed. Absentmindedly, Emma took some chocolate out of her pocket and broke off a chunk of it, which she popped into her mouth before switching her gaze back to the book lying in front of her. She hadn't turned a single page since she opened the book when she first took it off its shelf. The chocolate seemed to help calm her system down. At least until the librarian saw her eating it. "WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING?!" the librarian said as loudly as she could without being too disturbing. Emma looked over at her, eyes wide, not actually having any clue what she was talking about until she followed the librarian's sharp gaze down at the bar of chocolate in her hand. "Oh!" Emma gasped, finally understanding what the big deal was, and shoved it back into her pocket. "Sorry, it won't happen again, I promise!" Emma told her firmly, cheeks turning a little red when she saw a few other students looking over at her, also curious to know what had happened. Emma forced herself to turn her attention back to her book, and tried to ignore the feeling of everyone looking at her.

A little while later, she had finally read about a chapter in her book when her mind started to drift again, and they went back to their thoughts of River. He was everything that she had ever wanted and more. He was funny, kind, very attractive. A part of her wondered why he was even attracted to her. She didn't think herself very pretty, though she didn't think she was bad looking. Though, in a couple ways, she was the opposite of River. She was so shy and timid. Even more so when she wasn't around him. Doing anything in front of people very much frightened her, where it seemed like it was the last thing on his mind. Ever since they became friends, Emma looked up to River. He was sort of her role model. Not to mention her family loved him. Though Emma thought it would be next to impossible for anyone to not like River. He was the most amazing person she had ever met, and he was hers. That last thought came into her head and stayed there for a while. The smile she had had before returned, and this time it was bigger. He was hers. Emma chuckled a bit and bit her lip, loving that thought more than humanly possible. Suddenly, she felt like jumping up and running around, just because she was happy. You'd like to think she would have done that before, but it seemed to have just hit her. And, in a hushed tone that didn't at all reflect on how she was feeling in that moment, Emma said, "I love him." The words seemed to be the truest words that anyone had ever spoken. And she even decided to say it again, because she just loved the way it sounded. "I love him!" This time it as louder, and a few curious students once more looked over at her, but she didn't even seem to notice. "I love him!!" she said once more, this time almost yelling it, as if this was her eureka moment, and then she started laughing, mostly at herself but also out of pure joy. It was the most outgoing thing Emma had ever done, not to mention she was rarely that loud. But she couldn't help but feel wonderful about it. The librarian by now had gone back over to her and started harping at her for being loud, but all Emma did was stand up and hug her. "This is the most amazing day of my life!" she said happily before letting go of the very flustered librarian, grabbing her bag, and rushing out of the library to find River. The one she truly loved.

you are the one who makes me whole
IN MY HEART AND IN MY SOUL.

Quidditch took a lot of River's time, it was very true. He obsessed over the game and over his team. But he made sure to never care about it more then he did his girlfriend, and especially to not include her in it so that it was just more time spent near her. But sometimes River was forced to fly solo to practice, because as much fun as sitting around reading and grinning at him, River was well aware it didn't hold the same excitement for her. If she had ever showed any real interest in the game, he would have suggested she get down on the pitch with them and try her hand at it, but what made him happy didn't always make everyone else as happy. Sure he knew she was happy FOR him, but that didn't mean Quidditch itself held any joy for her. Plus, we have to admit, he loved seeing her in the stands during a big game. It was the main drive he had to succeed after all, to impress his girlfriend. But the point simply was, he understood her not being at every practice. Especially with them practicing nightly to prep for the upcoming game against slytherin. So though it was a little disappointing to look over at her after a rather impressive move, to only see she had missed it. He quickly recovered though, this was River all all. Of course, if he could ever be upset about something it would be related to Emma. Still flying high on adrenaline, though his feet were firmly back on the ground, he was in anything except a bad mood.

As he showered up so he wouldn't smell like "hard work", he couldn't help but think about recently. First off, he'd snogged his best friend in this very locker room, quite shirtless-ly might we add. Then they had sort of really just fell naturally in to dating, him calling her his girlfriend without really ever having to ask. And now he spent all his time with her, though this was not really different then before. Except when the urge hit to kiss her, he kissed her. And when he wanted to hold her hand, he did so. Every night in the common room he sat around on the couch holding her while they talked, or she read, or they even talked to others. But usually when they were together like the whole focus was on each other. Lately though she seemed a little out of it, though not in an unhappy way, just a little foggy. He figured it might have to do with the way the professors were cracking down on them, or just something on her mind. He couldn't really be sure but like we said, he was happy and as far as he knew they were happy, so maybe he was ringing more in to a small thing then was necessary. That wasn't really much of a River trait, but like we said, things seemed to change quite a bit when it came to Emma. He was a pretty big pacifist, but if anyone so much as looked at her in a way that upset her, he would easily snap in to aggressive like he'd been so his whole life. She just shook up what had once been River's very calm life, and he was absolutely loving it. Finally he finished with his shower, those words replaying in his head as he dressed and such to go see her. Wanting to make a good impression every time she was around.

He remembered her mentioning something about the library, so that's where he was headed. He had stopped by his dorm and picked up his bag so that they could get some "studying" in. Typically when they studied together he just ended up kissing on her, holding her, tickling her, you know the usual giddy boyfriend and girlfriend stuff. But hey he enjoyed it, and somehow he was still squeaking by so no harm no foul. He was just down the corridor from the library when he saw her coming speeding out, and couldn't help but grin at the sight of her. The second she was closing enough, he wrapped his arms around her waist, lifting her off her feet as he kissed her passionately. With a small laugh he pulled back a little to look at her, placing her back on the ground but arms still around her waist keeping her close. No one really even bothered to look twice at them, because there was rarely a time that they were together that River wasn't holding her in some way. Even if it was just holding her hand. In fact, people would have been looking a lot more if they'd been together and not like they were now. But unless something went seriously wrong between them, there was no chance of that happening. "Where are you headed in such a hurry?" he asked teasingly, a playful smirk on his face that was actually much closer to being a grin. If she had somewhere to be he would relunctantly let her go, but he was seriously hoping she didn't. Unless that place was to him, then they both won. He kissed her again sweetly, hand on the small of her back under her shirt slightly to rub her back lovingly as he did so. He couldn't have imagined letting her go right then, ever, let alone soon. Maybe he would just find a way to talk her out of going where ever she was going, which typically wasn't a thought that would occur to him, but she was his Emma so he was allowed to.

It was as if he had read her mind. Seeing him as she ran out of the library seemed to make her happier, if that was even remotely possible. Her grin broadened more than it had in a long while, and she threw her arms around his neck when he was close enough. She laughed happily as he picked her up, feeling as though it had been a lifetime since they had done so, when it had really only been a few hours. But sometimes, an hour could be an eternity. Emma kissed him back when River kissed her, still smiling from the overwhelming joy and adrenalin that felt like it had been injected straight into her heart. Even if that had happened, Emma would have absolutely no problem with it, because the way she felt felt so good, that she would never like to feel anything else. She felt him put her back down on the ground and they stopped kissing, but she loved how close he kept his face to hers, almost as if he was afraid something might get in the way of the two of them and he wouldn't be able to see her. Those thoughts ran through Emma's head and she felt her face grow a little hot, but for once she didn't even care. River asked her where she was going in such a hurry, which made her smile widely again. "Actually, I was coming to find you." she told him, cocking her head slightly to the side and studying his eyes. "Looks like I found you, huh?" Emma slid her hands down onto his chest, and she kissed him again. One of her soft, loving kisses. She inhaled deeply, taking in his fresh scent. "Mmmm," she said as she pulled away slightly, "you smell nice." There was a slightly loopy grin on her face then, but then she realized why he probably smelled so good. Not that he didn't smell good all the time, mind you. But it came to her that she had probably been right earlier about him having Quidditch practice. "You were playing Quidditch, weren't you?" Emma felt a pang of guilt at not being there, and blamed herself. Her gaze dropped for a few seconds, but then came back up and met his eyes again. "Sorry I wasn't there. I've just been so out of it, and I went to the library to research our Charms essay, and then I had this epiphany, and then I found you, and things got a lot better." Emma sighed in a content and flustered way, and nuzzled River's neck while wrapping her arms around him again so she could be hugging him. "Mmm, you make everything better." Emma then leaned her head back so that she could look at River's without moving the rest of her body, and told him in the most serious, loving, and compassionate way she could, "I love you."

you are the one who makes me whole
IN MY HEART AND IN MY SOUL.

It was nice to see Emma so happy. Not that she wasn't a happy person, but he loved that she was so apparently happy with him. River was strongly motivated by his desire to make others happy, but Emma was the most important person in his life. If he couldn't keep her happy, he'd pretty much fail at life. Besides, she made him unbelievably happy so it was only fair for him to return even half that. He grinned more at her saying she had been looking for him, something he hadn't really expected but wasn't upset to hear. In fact, made him feel extraordinary. So as she said it looked like she found him he laughed happily and kissed her back. "Yep. And i'm glad you did. I missed you." he confessed sincerely, kissing her one more time softly. Laughing a bit more as she told him he smelled nice, he took a discreet sniff of the air to see if she was right. Well there was the definite aroma of his shampoo and soap in the air, but it was her perfume which caught his attention, and made him even happier. He loved the way Emma smelt. It was pleasant and it was very Emma-like, and therefore made him happy by default. Plus it lingered a lot after she left and made it feel like she was still there for a bit longer. Sappy, we know. But this was River, a diehard romantic. It was just natural for him to read off like some cheesy fairytale prince. Plus Emma made him even sappier with how great she was for him and how much he felt for her.

Which those feelings were what made it so easy to say the following in response to her apology. "It's okay, really." he tried to assure her, but she seemed intent on saying something and so he shut up. He was a patient guy willing to wait for her to finish speaking before inputting, though he was dying to be sure she understood it was okay and he wasn't upset. The last thing he wanted was for her to think he was upset she hadn't shown to practice. But as he was thinking up all the ways to convince her it was okay, he heard three words he never expected. They rang in his head over and over again, as if playing on repeat on some kind of internal voice recorder. She loved him. She loved him. It was almost too good to believe, and he had a hard time wrapping his mind completely around it. She loved him. But it was then he realized as he stared at her, that he hadn't responded, and he had to mentally kick himself for that. "I love you too Emma!" he replied happily, grinning again from ear to ear. And as he kissed her again, his arms holding her in a tight but comfortable hug, he realized just how try it was. Also though, how true it had always been. After all, she'd been his best friend from the start and though they called it a platonic friendship love, he had loved her then. Not in the platonic sense at all though, he just hadn't been ready to admit it. But it was hard not to love Emma, she was everything he could ever want. And he'd been quick to realize this. Just slow to saying it aloud.

It was out in the open now, so he didn't mind confessing now. "I've been in love with you for a very long time." he explained, still grinning, "I kind of fell in love with you the day we met." He laughed a bit nervously at that, since it was a little embarrassing to say out loud. In a bit of a shy way at least, though he was never a real shy guy, not in the ashamed way. Hell if anything he was extremely proud to be with Emma, people really should have been insanely envious of this couple because as far as River was concerned she was the best there was. So despite being in the hall he wasn't the least bit afraid to kiss her again sweetly, before hugging her a tad tighter to him, head resting slightly against hers. "Okay, so.... i'm stealing you." he told her with a small laugh as he pulled back a bit to look at her. "Since you love me and i love you, i claim you for the night." and he totally meant that, though he would have even without the confession. But it would be way harder to see her go now, especially RIGHT now since this was a big moment for them. So he was claiming her and everyone else would have to deal. Course she was his in the same way he was hers, always. But she was exclusively his for the rest of afternoon if she agreed to be.
