I've decided that TNA wants to fail. Now I could go into a myriad of reasons, however, I just wish to point out that apparently someone figured this would be a good business decision.
TNA has officially signed Hulk Hogan. Apparently Eric Bischoff is with him.
Now, I'm not going to revert to saying TNA has become WCW. I'm not even going to point out the irony of a company with the former tagline of "We are Wrestling" bringing in Hulk Hogan whose mobility has drastically decreased in recent years.
But I thought TNA was going to do something they needed to do. Focus on their youth and their talented young wrestlers (they have many). Now, I understand that Hulk Hogan can, theoretically, bring in money. It can bring it ratings for the curiosity pop. But, it's clear, Hogan's pop diminished in WWE each time he came out after Hogan/Michaels. He wasn't the huge, everyone goes crazy pop anymore. So his marketability is dwindling. Add to the fact that realistically, he could only draw 2000 people in Memphis against the Big Show (a match that theoretically should have drawn). So all this adds to TNA is that they wouldn't have to necessarily paper their events to sell tickets. But here's the problem.....how many TNA fans are going to be excited about Hogan coming in? Hogan can't wrestle any realistic schedule and his track record makes it troubling to think they're going to have him put over anyone.
Since we are unaware of why TNA brought him in, it makes it difficult to crucify TNA completely. However, I can't say it's terribly stupid, but I can say its ironic and shows how TNA isn't sure of its own path. I just can't claim this to be an encouraging move. WWE is more of a youth movement than TNA at the moment. I just can't see this ending well. Fifteen years ago, Hogan going to WCW was huge. But now, Hogan going to TNA is just disappointing. TNA could have been something so different, but instead continues to make the same mistakes that to this point have led to consistent ratings and no pay per view buys. They still have a product seemingly no one will pay to see. Maybe Hogan will put some butts in the seats for a bit, but realistically, if Angle and Sting couldn't keep that going, what is the hope that Hogan will?

And there is a new twist in this latest saga of interesting moves done by Total Non-Stop Action. It seems that TNA will be getting a second television show. When is this show you ask? Why Mondays at 8 to 10.
Now I understand the concept of giving the fans what they want and many have been yearning for a new Monday Night War. However, there is a problem with this.
Monday has become a huge night for television in general, much different from the good old days of the Monday Night War. With shows such as House, CSI:Miami and so forth, competition is stiffer. Add in Monday Night Football and competition for a sliver of the audience will be strong.
Now, one may say, but TNA has a chance. I would say this but they have an okay audience at best. Even if one looks at things on a level playing field, TNA booking has made it such that old established stars are the main players people actually recognize easily (outside of the TNA fanbase). Add their limited capabilities in building stars at the moment and add to the fact that their booking has struggled lately to have shows that build to a second hour peak (they can draw the audience in and keep them for the full two hours), how good is this move?
While I like the idea of a Monday Night War, this is like throwing a high school football player into the NFL and telling him to win the Superbowl. It's far too early. TNA is going all for broke right now and for what? A fifty year old whose marketability and wrestling ability is dramatically decreasing and a second show that right now, with TNA's current booking, is doomed to fail.
Granted, all of this is based off speculation and this is from the Internet Wrestling Community. At the moment, TNA does have Bischoff (albeit in a production deal) and Hogan on their side. This is confirmed by TNA themselves. The second show is largely rumoured and is believed to be revealed shortly. I certainly would love to see this company get a second show to showcase their talent. I have doubts about it being on Monday's against an established show that despite its quality dropping, it still has a wider and more dedicated audience.
