ooc|| a friend in need is a friend indeed

Ugh, I'm so obsessing over Placebo right now. And Zemyx. Someone save me, please.

ic|| a friend with weed is better
Her mind flicked back to the cats she currently had resting in her den and sighed internally; this was definitely not what she needed--another injured cat was like, just a major nono right now. On top of caring for three wounded cats, dealing with Lunarshade’s attitude, the apparent way Jackalstar seemed not to care about the Clan, and training her apprentice… No, she really didn’t want to deal with some loner kitten who didn’t want her help to begin with.

But she was a medicine cat, so she would just have to go shove it.

Sweeping her tired green eyes over the ginger kit, Sirenwhisper smothered another sigh. “What seems to be the damage, hmm?” she said after a moment; weariness practically radiated from her. She hadn’t been able to sleep well these past few nights, and mostly had just taken to wandering around the territory. At night. It was a wonder something hadn’t eaten her yet.

As a soft voice made its presence known beside her, Sirenwhisper nearly jumped two feet in the air. StarClan! That was what insomnia got her: dulled senses. Trying to calm her rapidly beating heart, the small tabby swung around to face her apprentice. Her pale eyes met his own mismatched ones, and said heart gave a strange jolt; she looked away to the injured female, mind having suddenly gone blank. “Um. Yes,” she answered, still trying to sort through her suddenly very jumbled thoughts.

Okay. What the heck?

[ooc: <3 You don’t need to be saved. Embrace the Zemyx and Placebo (which is AWESOME BEYOND ALL WORDS), and enjooooy it.]

Gloomypaw blinked in surprise when Sirenwhisper had jumped when he had come up to her. He curled his slim, black tail around his hind legs, blinking his mismatched eyes and twitching his ears as she looked at him. There was a funny feeling in the tom’s stomach when their eyes met—it was as if he had swallowed a mouthful of pigeon feathers and they were being blown around in his stomach. What on earth was that? He swallowed, passed his tongue over his jaws. No…it couldn’t be.

“How can I help?” Gloomypaw asked in his regular soft voice, tearing his eyes from his mentor and instead gazing at the injured female. “What do we need? Do you know what’s wrong with her yet, Sirenwhisper?” His green-and-brown gaze would occasionally flit back to the tabby she-cat, however, and his dark ears were pricked attentively, as if wanting to drink in her every word.

‘This is strange,’ the small apprentice thought when the feathery feeling didn’t abate. ‘I must ask Hickorysmoke and Reaperclaw of this when I return to camp…perhaps I’m sick or something.’ Yes, he decided, that had to be it. Trying to push the thoughts from his head, Gloomypaw attempted to focus on the task at hand.

It's true, quietly cooperating with the medicine cat and her apprentice would be the sensible thing to do. Peropero would feel better faster and be able to get away from them just as quick. But sadly not all creatures are born with the gift of common sense. Pero would be one of them.

She squirmed unhappily under the collective gazes of all the assembled cats. A natural performer with a very healthy voicebox, this would normally be no problem. In fact, the little she-cat would be revelling in such attention. But not when they came from those ringing around her now. Pero despised the clan cats and even more detested having to accept their help. Even moreso, she hated having to admit she needed it.

This hatred bubbled plainly behind her words as she spoke, craning her head back slightly to keep an eye on the cats behind her. "I slipped off that branch and fell, not that I'd do that normally and I can tell you I fell just as good as any clan cat would!" This last comment was added hastily at the end. She wasn't eager to be ridiculed for her lack of landing prowess.

Steelex's shoulders tensed as the medicine cat and her apprentice arrived, his green eyes straying warily between the clan cats. He knew as soon as Pero was healed, the clan cats would force them to leave, and the loners would gladly comply. He had had enough of Thunderclan and all it's bad karma. "Just lay still, the thin-limbed tom meowed with an irritated flicker of his ears, "And we can leave this damned place as soon as possible." Turning to the pretty she-cat, Sirenwhisper, he confided, "Please be quick. It would be best if we were off as soon as possible."

At Pero's snappy words, he grew frustrated and said, as if reprimanding her, "It doesn't matter if you fell or if a clan cat fell...what kind of cat falls on her side anyways? You're suppose to land on your feet, it's a natural reaction to gravity!" He sat close to her head, glaring down at her, feeling tumultuous. He curled his long tail neatly around his paws and waited for Sirenwhisper to do what she did best.

A frown tugged at the corners of Sirenwhisper's maw. "Damn," she cursed softly under her breath and padded forward to inspect the ginger kit more closely. Her eyes narrowed when she met said kit's, but her fur bristled only slightly as she said dtyly, "If you try to claw my eyes out, I'll have no choice but remove your paws."

Bending down to look at Pero's leg, she gently tapped several places with her paw; and heaved a deep sigh of relief. "Gloomypaw, come here and double-check that her bone isn't broken; I don't think she tore a muscle muscle, either, or she would be yowling her head off. Her leg would probably be twitching from the damaged nerves, too," she muttered to herself and sighed again; although, this time it was contemplative.

"You probably just twisted it pretty good; I can give you some poppy seeds for pain and a little bit of comfrey to help swelling--but other than that, I think you should just stay off it for a while. If it gets worse, you should probably come back here to see me; or one of the other Clans' medicine cats might be willing to help you too," she meowed crisply, looking faintly annoyed at the she-cat's last comment. With a flick of her tail, she glanced over at Steelex.

“Yes, Sirenwhisper,” Gloomypaw murmured in reply to her command, flicking his tail. His small, black form slunk over to the prone one of the female kit, and he lifted his small paws, placing them on her leg. Lightly, he felt for anything out of place, or jaggedness in the bone to see whether or not it had broken or cracked. His claws gently scraped over her fur as he felt for hairline cracks but felt nothing except twisted muscles beginning to slowly swell in response to the fall.

The small apprentice gave Peropero a hesitant smile and slunk back a few pawsteps, ducking his head. “It’s not broken,” he said, half to her, half to his mentor (who he was sure was correct, even without the double-checking). “It’s a good thing, too, because that would mean you wouldn’t be able to move it for a good few weeks until you could get back on your paws.” He turned to Sirenwhisper quietly, his half-lidded green and brown gaze coming to rest on her face as his ears swiveled forward.

“Do you want me to go get the herbs?” he questioned lowly, for a moment afraid she’d leave him alone with these cats. If there was one thing Gloomypaw didn’t like, it was being alone around cats he didn’t know. And the only cats that he did know right now and felt comfortable enough around to be himself were his brothers and Sirenwhisper.

Steelex watched quietly as Sirenwhisper gave whisper a sure fire analysis of Pero's injury. She seemed very qualified, skilled...as if she knew what she was doing. In fact, it seemed like old news, like she had seen worst before. True that, Steele thought, for he too had seen much more blood and gore from the alley cats in the city. He remained silent as Gloomypaw ran his light paws against Pero, skin twitching in irritation and impatience. The apprentice skulked like he was afraid an eagle would scoop him into the air at any moment. Couldn't he tell that he was in a hurry?

Shocking himself, he snapped, "Of course she wants you to get some herbs! Dont just stand there like a ninny waiting for directions! Think for yourself!" The tom's mouth froze half-open, realizing he had been overly harsh. Too bad, he reasoned. Too damn bad. Still, he muttered under his breath, "Geez..." It was mostly directed at himself, though Gloomypaw might assume that the annoyed tone would be for him.

Peropero remaiend uncharacteriscally still as Gloomypaw examined her. She squeezed her eyes shut and attempted to keep from squirming; the little loner was clearly just as eager as Steelex to get this all over with. Not to mention the apprentice's tiny paws poking her leg were doing nothing but making it hurt more. Still, the fiery tempered she-cat could see how nervous he was and actually felt a little bad for him. From the looks of it Steelex had a few choice words for Gloomypaw anyway.

She was relieved it wasn't broken; the last thing she wanted was to remain here for two weeks! A worried look fell over her face at this thought though. How am I going to hunt like this? Pero's mind wailed anxiously. I'm going to starve! Occupied with this somber prospect, Peropero amazingly said nothing at all.

Sirenwhisper stared back at Gloomypaw for a few moments, face impassive. Her liquid green eyes remained carefully guarded, their depths as mysterious as a never-ending abyss. Then, pretty face full of weariness, she nodded and began to answer him tiredly. "Would you, Gloo--" but she cut off with a startled blink as Steelex all but verbally assaulted her apprentice. Cold anger surged through her veins, freezing her blood.

Ears flattened, she rounded on the older loner; her grey fur was fluffed up in agitation and fear-inspiring fury was clearly written across her face. "Don't you dare! Don't you dare!" she spat at him, claws flexing. "We could have just left you and that kit in agony--you're lucky I'm a more compassionate spirit!" Sirenwhisper hissed. "But if you ever insult my apprentice--the same apprentice helping your little friend-- in front of me again, then you will find yourself faced with my claws. I wasn't just trained in the healing arts," she warned him, visage grave and still holding her anger.

When the tomcat, Steelex, spoke, Gloomypaw recoiled in shock and pain from his harsh words. His mismatched eyes grew wide and he seemed to shrink in stature, flattening his body to the ground. His ears pressed back against his skull and he looked down at the ground, stammering weakly, “I…I…I’m…” Shame build in him and embarrassment flooded him like poison before his gaze shot back up as his mentor rounded on the loner. His eyes grew wide when he saw her fur fluffing up in anger, and his ears pricked up suddenly.

She spat at the tom, who, although larger than her, seemed small in the face of her fury. Gloomypaw’s eyes stretched open wide—he had never seen her like this before. So…angry! It amazed him, for a moment, that he had someone like this on his side. He had Sirenwhisper to stick up for and defend him when he was too cowardly to do it himself. Warmth and gratitude flooded through the small black apprentice, who straightened up a little and blinked gratefully, although shyly, at Sirenwhisper. His whiskers curled up as he fought back a smile, having a feeling that might earn him the anger of Steelex even more. That thought didn’t prevent him from smiling, though, and his black tail swished back and forth twice, giving away his pleasure.

Steele had anticipated shame, even embarassement from the apprentice. What he hadn't expected was Sirenwhispers furious hiss of anger, her fangs barred and ready to rip him up like the scum he knew he was though tried notcare too much about. The medicine cat was like vicious guard dog when it came to Gloomypaw! He leaned back a little, letting her know she had made her point without actually having to bow down and take a step back in retreat. His reply came back cool and precise, "That's true, I should be grateful, but perhaps you should teach your...what did you call him? Apprentice, to defend himself."

The loner's vibrant green eyes stared at Sirenwhisper openly, wondering if she'd really act upon her threat. His musckle remained tense, his tail stiff. Gloomypaw seemed as shocked as he was at the pretty she-cats rash public display of anger, though Steele hid his astonishment much better then the young cat did. A barely visible frown appared upon Steele's brow when he noticed the apprentice's admiration for his mentor. Sure, the kid glowed with gratitude now, but Sirenwhisper would not be there for bim forever.

The injured she-cat watched the tiny conflict with interest. Gloomypaw's reaction to Steele's outburst seemed to remind her of someone she knew. She lashed her tail around a little with thought as they argued, mind slowly churning to recall just who Gloomypaw seemed so familiar to. This took literally all of the little cat's concentration; she rarely ever thought about anything like this. Her past was something Peropero had done her best to forget. The events were quietly tucked away and folded up beneath other memories, buried but not completely forgotten. However the ginger loner had done a fairly good job of it and now that she was actually trying to remember something she was finding it nearly impossible to recall the fragment of thought back from the depths of her mind.

Deciding to temporarily abandon this tiny endeaver Peropero let her mind jump back to the moment at hand. "I'm not a kit you know," She decided to add loudly and most unhelpfully, "I'm just as old as him!" Peropero pointed with her nose in the direction of Gloomypaw, who was probably recieving more attention than he would have liked right now.
