With one final pull, the garter came free of it's catch - a part of her gun holster - and Roy finally managed to edge the material down a red Riza's leg.

"Troublesome little thing."

He turned to the crowd, and told them all to stop fussing, he had the blasted thing now.

((So how does this work now? Does he throw it over his shoulder too, or something?? -Dai didn't really pay attention at this part of any wedding-))

(some throw it over the shoulder, but it is usually shot up into the air, from his spot on the floor, like a rubber band, because throwing a little scrap of fabric like that won't get it very far.)

Havoc waited anxiously, holding back his laughter at the way Roy tensed up for a moment, he knew there was only one thing that would make him react like that.

((Ah, okay. Rubber band sounds about right.))

Roy's eyes spotted Denny at the last moment, reminding him just in time that he was doing a job here. He'd forgotten in all the fuss.

"Here goes," he said, and using his thumb and the forefinger of the other hand, he shot the garter up like a rubber band.

((I figure using the term rubber band is fine, but my literary senses are tingling because we just used it a few times in our conversation. It's not in the story, though, so that should be fine.))

Riza sat back, glad that the fiasco of garter-fetching was over with and it would soon be someone else's turn to be tormeneted by having a man reach up their dress.

Maria wondered what caused Mustang to stop halfway through. Knowing Riza, thought, it was probably a gun holster--or two, depending upon the blonde's mood. She watched nervously as the garter flew through the air, wondering who would catch the scrap of fabric. And secretly hoping for a certain person.

Now that Roy was ready, Havoc had to utter the s word. "Hey shorty, shouldn't you be up there at the front?" he asked, looking down at Ed.


"Who's so short a bean would squish him?" Ed yelled, knocking over the people around him in the process of trying to tackle the blond who towered at least a foot over him.

"It's the Armstrong family tradition to catch the garter!" Armstrong boomed, eyes sparkling as he started to take off his jacket to strike his usual pose, which disrupted the people around him.

Havoc sighed, looking down at the young man kept he kept away from himself by placing a hand on his head. He's definitely not acting. I bet the old man didn't tell him everything.

Grumman watched from his table, chuckling at the spectacle the blonds who weren't supposed to catch the garter were creating.

Denny - just out of reach of Ed's flailing arms - heard the sound of the garter being flicked up, and averted his eyes from the scene Armstrong had enraptured those too close to him with. He caught sight of the garter just before it hit the roof and began to drop.

Everything around him seemed to slow down, and Denny could see where the garter was going to fall before it even reached there. His legs moved as though through molasses, but it only took him two strides, and then his hand caught the material out of the air, just as the guy next to him climbed off the floor where Ed had knocked him.

He . . . He'd actually caught it.

Roy breathed a sigh of relief. When the garter hit the roof instead of narrowly missing and continuing towards Denny, he'd thought the plan wouldn't work. He must have just underestimated the man's determination.

There was a large grin on his face as he went to pat the other man on the back. "Good catch."

Denny blinked at the garter and looked up at him. "Thanks," he said, sounding almost disbelieving.

Maria watched, part of her not surprised at all that Denny had caught the garter. The lack of surprise did little to lessen the flush growing on her cheeks. Crossing her arms, she did her best to keep a straight face at the thought of what was coming next.

Riza turned slightly when Roy was close to her, resting her hand on his arm. "Goodshot."

[ Um..sorry...baad post...didn't have any idea what to put...long day at play rehearsal...I found out yesterday that my best friend's grandmother isn't doing well, and that grandma is almost like my grandma because my grandma died when Iw as young and Id ont' really remember her...I've known that my firend's grandma wasn't doing well so now in the back of my mind I"m thinking 'I need ot save money for plane tickets...'...if she dies, I want to go to the funeral. I really love her grandma as if she were my grandma..]

((That's okay How's she doing now?))

"Thanks," Roy grinned. "I learnt from the best."

Denny turned around smiling to see Maria standing there with her arms across her chest. His smile slipped and he scratched the back of his head.

"So, ah, how are we going to get this done?"

[Bizzy]

Maria shifted her weight, nervously. "I don't know," she declared, glancing at Riza and Roy, more than certain that this was planned out in advance.

"I'll give you that," Riza said quietly, smiling back at Maria who was looking at them with a bit of a glare.

[ She passed away last Monday. Unfortunately, I couldn't fly out to go to the funeral or to sit Shiva... sorry my post is so crummy, I have a cold still ]
