We don't know who they are. We don't know what they're here for. But we do know they've been running for a long, long time. They arrived 2 years ago, when my son was born...
At first, we didn't stand a chance. A milennia of peace and prosperity makes you soft, but things can change quickly, regardless. When the Aluxi Dynasty fell, the Trade Order rebranded itself as the Trader Emergency Coalition (TEC), and backed by the wealth of the trader worlds, the Trader ships were converted into war machines to combat the... "Vasari". It's been a long time since then, and we've put up a hell of a fight. Things were beggining to look so hopeful that Command withdrew the weary First Generation, and sent us home to our families. I thought I could live a normal life... until they came.
It was 10 years ago. We found them hidden away on a remote desert planet, a sinful society of deviants. Our ancestors knew what had to be done, there was no question! Bretheren or not, we could not co-exist with such creatures! They were lost to us. They needed to be removed, and so they were. An entire planet, expelled out into the darkness of space. Now they've come back, more twisted and powerful than in the stories used to frighten little children. They called themselves the Advent, and they are ravaging the undefended sectors. Which is why decommed veterans are being forced back into service. To protect our families, and the sons we hardly know...
So, here's the deal. Mainly, there are three factions. The Vasari: An advanced alien civilization on the run from an unknown threat. The TEC: A conglomerate of the remaining Traders, they aren't as advanced as the Vasari, but much more adaptable. Their fleet is made of Trade ships fitted with weapons and heavy armor. The Advent: A caste-based society, focusing on Psionics and a collective voice called 'The Unity'. Unlike the other two factions, this is a Matriarchy, with the higher caste's dominated by females. Alright, working past the character limit on the DSi.... The Advent society is Matriarchal, with the higher castes dominated by females. The reason for this is their seemingly enhanced acceptance to the Psionic technology that increases the brain activity enough to allow them to communicate with their minds. They can see what the others see, feel what the others feel. While not as strong as the TEC or the Vasari fleet, the ships are less costly to produce and can have more built than both of the other factions. So, in brief summary, here are strengths and weaknesses of each specific faction. Vasari: Relies heavily on technology, have advanced communication devices, and although it requires large amounts of resources to build ships, and the Vasari themselves are physically frail, their ships and other technology are much stronger than the other two. TEC: Being the Traders they are, they can acquire resources with relative ease. Their merchant/war ships, although considerably less costly than those of the Vasari, are much weaker than a ship of the opposing faction. For instance (in the game, SOASE) one Vasari basic frigate can outmatch 2 TEC basic frigates, and 3-4 basic Advent frigates. Keep in mind though, this is without research, and once fully upgraded, the TEC can match the Vasari blow for blow. Relies on trade and mass wealth. Advent: The spiritual factionnof the game. Their strength lies in their culture, not their combat abilities. Their ships, even fully upgraded, have a disadvantage to Vasari ships of 1:2, 1:4 if not upgraded. But, they don't fight on even terms. Although they are weak, there are lots of them. Imagine a single bee. Easily swatted and killed, right? Same wth these guys. Now, imagine one hundred bees, one thousand bees! Not so easily dispersed, eh. Once again, same goes for Advent. Rules for play in next post. Read on, my friend. We're almost at the end now.

Congratulations! You have made it to the RULE POST!! If you made it this far, obviously you're interested in something. Well, don't let me stop you. The world of future warfare and the expanses of space are before your eyes!
#1) You must not God-mod. Not even I can God-mod, and if the creator of this thread can't be all-powerful (yeesh), than neither can you.
#2) You must be willing to sustain injury! This is space, not Ninja Warrior. You cannot dodge every single attack that comes towards you.
#3) Must must must be willing to learn a little from people. This will not be exactly like the game (which is impossible because the only real storyline ended in the first post. No campaign. In other words, this, no matter what we do, could possibly happen), but certain details and, of course, the LAWS OF PHYSICS will not be overlooked.
#4) This is an important one. Do not, for the love of everything good, act like an idiot. No insults are meant for anyone on this site, but I've found that without bringing this up, it happens more often.
#5) Have fun. This is a War Game, emphasis on the Game! Well, the war too, but that's besides the point. Not everything has to be 'kill or be killed'. Even the First Generation (refer to first post) has time to kick back and relax.
Now, although the game itself never takes place on a planet, this gives people some creative wiggle room. When conflicting over a certain planet, nothing in space will be mentioned. While in space however, it is not uncommon to receive reports from a specific planet. More details on this if it takes off.
Travel, both in space and planetside takes time. Yes, even this far into the future (approx. 3078 AD), they do not have teleporters. On planets, timeshifts will be determined. In space, a method called 'Phase Space Travel' will take place. As this is considerably shorter than timeshifts, a reasonable agreement will be made. More deatails and discussion upon approval and display of interest.
