The in-character lesson would have been about Firestone Sorting, basically telling the candidate about the three different 'grades' of firestone, and how they can be used. Since Shiveth is a clutching female, she wouldn't be able to demonstrate, however, another pair showed up and demonstrated the three different flames that the different 'stones produce.

Afterwards, he sits all the weyrlings down, and handed out sheets of paper, each with questions on it, and instructs them to answer ALL of the questions to the best of their ability before he goes back to sitting on Shiveth, staring at them QUITE intently...

(He's waaatching you...)

State three things in general about firestone.

What general group of dragons are unable to Chew firestone?

Can dragons be allergic to firestone?

What can weyrlings do during threadfall that involves firestone?

What other uses does a dragon have for flame besides fighting Thread?

Dragons are able to chew firestone to produce a flame, obviously. It's easily discernable from other types of stone, and it comes in three different 'grades', each having their own different uses when it comes to Threadfighting.

What general group of dragons are unable to Chew firestone?
Golds, naturally, as well as certain blizzards and bloods.

Can dragons be allergic to firestone?
If a dragon could be allergic to firestone, I've never heard of it.

What can weyrlings do during threadfall that involves firestone?
Younger weyrlings are tasked with sorting and bagging firestone during Threadfall, while those old enough to fly and hop between are tasked with taking bags of 'stone to the Wings.

What other uses does a dragon have for flame besides fighting Thread?
It's useful in battle, as well as for signaling to other dragons? Other than that, I cannot say.

Firestone is easily recognized from other types of stone. It would have to be, otherwise one wouldn't know that they're mining the stuff. It makes a gas when chewed by a dragon and exposed the the acids in their second stomachs. And it burns hotter than normal flame.

What general group of dragons are unable to Chew firestone?
Clutching dragons, of course.

Can dragons be allergic to firestone?
I've never heard of one, personally. However, I suppose anything is possible.

What can weyrlings do during threadfall that involves firestone?
Either sort and bag it ourselves, or ferry it to the Wings if our dragons are old enough to do so.

What other uses does a dragon have for flame besides fighting Thread?
I suppose it'd be useful in battle, though I personally detest the idea of using flame against another creature that wasn't Thread.

State three things in general about firestone.
Well, it burns way too hot to be used in a forge, dragons chew it to fight Thread, and not every gray rock is firestone but don't test it by making a dragon eat it.
What general group of dragons are unable to Chew firestone?
That would be any dragon that can clutch.
Can dragons be allergic to firestone?
I've never heard of it, but then again people can be allergic to meat and milk, so it might be possible.
What can weyrlings do during threadfall that involves firestone?
We can ferry it once our dragons are big enough to carry our weight and strong enough to fly back and forth, or we can bag it and toss it to ferriers if we're not ferrying.
What other uses does a dragon have for flame besides fighting Thread?
I'd imagine in fighting it'd be quite useful. Sadly.

Ci'ero of Starfall Itzpapaloth

State three things in general about firestone.

Firestone is used by dragons in order to flame, there are two types of it, one of which is extremely unstable, and can be easily distinguished from other types of stone.

What general group of dragons are unable to Chew firestone?

Clutching females.

Can dragons be allergic to firestone?

If they can, no case of it has thusfar been reported.

What can weyrlings do during threadfall that involves firestone?

We bring fresh firestone sacks to riders who have run out and bring back the empty ones to be refilled.

What other uses does a dragon have for flame besides fighting Thread?

A dragon could use a flame during battle in order to wound or potentially kill an opponent.
