Marlaey
    NAME; Marlaey
    NICK NAMES; none
    AGE; 18
    GENDER; female
    SEXUALITY; hetero
    RANK; Bloodrider
    PLAY-BY; n/a

    APPEARANCE;

    Blue grey eyes, quite slanted and angular in shape shine with curiosity in Marlaey's face regardless of what time it is or where she happens to be. Her pale complexion is smooth and seamless, as are the contours of her face. She is pretty without intent. Her dark brown hair is highlighted from constantly being outdoors with lighter tones. It floats around her head in wisps and light curls. At it's longest point, framing her face and her fringe, it's just over a finger length, but nearer the back it's a little shorter. It seems to grow out more than down! She hasn't quite decided whether or not to let it grow longer because she enjoys the benefits of short hair but also likes running her hand through the longer parts.

    From broad faced grinning to sourly pouting, Marlaey's natural facial expressions are highly animated. With one glance someone could instantly tell what mood she was in. Her emotions are always clearly written across her face. She bites her lip and frowns ever so slightly when she gets worried. she beams with joy when she's happy, her whole face lighting up up, eyes wide and smiling broadly. When she's sad her whole body slumps dramatically, her eyes downcast, breathing in heavily and deeply. No matter the feeling, her features communicate it, animatedly yes, but also genuinely. She has never acted out any emotion and is quite unaware of how expressive she really is.

    Marlaey's shoulders are quite narrow, but she has a long back that contributes to her height of about 5ft 8. In her mind that's very tall, according to the rest of the world it's not. Her arms and hands are basically just tools with which she speaks. If she's describing describing something she describes it very clearly and excitedly with her hands. She points, she gestures, she flails wildly, she acts out scenarios! Even when it's just a word she can't quite remember her hands roll as she hums, trying to grasp it. When she's cross however they're folded tightly under her rounded chest, forcing it to look more well endowed than it is.

    She is thin, but not overly so. Her stomach is flat and she has long legs to boot, but she is slim, not skinny. Her hips, and even her calves, have pleasing curves to them. Her feet are bare as often as is practical because she loves to feel the world beneath her feet rather than boots.

    Though not overly feminine in her dress sense she has recently started to embrace a less tomboyish look. Her clothes are simple in style and make, often earthy tones with a hint of brighter orange. When she was younger she had to learn how to sew very quickly because due to her buoyant and adventurous nature she is always acquiring small rips and tears in her clothing.

    PERSONALITY;

    Marlaey can be summed up in one word: Curious. Her mother always said she was, in actual fact, the personification of curiosity. She has an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and is always interested in other people's insights as well as understanding how the world works. She wants to know how, where, when and why things happen. If she can't learn it from someone she wants to experience it. She always wants to try things out, to see if she can do it too, to see if the results differ. Some people dislike the constant stream of questions, but Marlaey is all about understanding the ways of the world so she can show other people the best way to do things, which she is constantly doing.

    As a child she held a very romantic view of the world due to her artistic talents. She has been drawn to the world of art since she was little and no matter how her mother tried to instill a more practical skill in her daughter Marlaey persisted with making little
    dragons from sticks and cloth. She paints when the mood strikes her and enjoys any creative activity, including creative problem solving! When looking at the world around her she sees beauty in all things, especially Pern's fauna. She sees very clearly the purpose of every creature and revels in the hierarchy of it all. Pern inspires her in life like nothing else and knowledge of the inner workings of everything makes her appreciate it more and her respect deepen.

    She feels an urge to share her ideas of everything with everyone and to make them see it all from her point of view. She can be quite naive in this respect and tends to become overbearing in her need to explain how "wonderful" the world is. Many times she has overlooked other people's opinions and experiences in her attempt to make them see what she wants them to see. She doesn't seem to realise that other people have their own lives and experiences and generally don't want a 17 year old telling them to appreciate what they've got. It comes off as condescending.

    Being a bit too daydreamy, Marlaey's attention sometimes wanders too soon into a task and she inevitably gets distracted with her own pursuits, focusing on what she deems to be more important. Her poor mother had her work cut out for her trying to teach her weaving, but with a little bit of patience and a lot of lectures on the importance of consistency Marlaey began to show promise in the craft. Once she learns something, she rarely forgets it, but the beginning lessons in anything are the most difficult as she struggles to understand the concept or the basics. If it doesn't hold her interest she has a very bad habit of dismissing it and thinking of it as unimportant.

    Marlaey wishes she had more of a rapport with the animals of the world. She has often wished for that special ease which some people have around animals. It's not for lack of trying, which she will continue to do until she feels she confident in herself, but she just doesn't have a natural flare with them. She can keep good company with the creatures, but compared to a farmer or breeder she feels pretty inadequate. She has always wanted to bond with a creature of Pern, but was not chosen to stand until she was older.

    She has always been interested in who visits the weyr and is a more than a bit too nosy for her own good, often sneaking out of her room to find out the latest news or, when she was younger, seeing the newest candidates. This is very risky of course, but luckily for her she is very quiet and dexterous. This, however, would not excuse her if she were caught breaking the rules. Her over confidence in her abilities could be her downfall.

    Over the years she has seen a number of the other children get chosen to stand for a hatching and though this has made her envious for a while, for some reason she never doubted that her life would always revolve around the dragons of Pern and that she just had to wait for the right moment. She does however, have a problem with controlling her jealously. In short, she's not very good at it at all. It takes a lot of effort and for the most she doesn't restrain her emotions, often holding grudges for much longer than is healthy. It's hard for her to let go of anything.

    As a young bloodrider now Marlaey sees the importance of authority and taking responsibility for herself and those around her. She has risen to the challenge beautifully and seeks opportunities to share her opinions and instruct others in tasks. It makes her happy to think that she can impact their lives in some small way. Always willing to share her past experiences she takes pride in on her knowledge, knowing that she too is a student in other areas.

    For her, life is divided into opportunities to teach and to learn, and you must never stop doing either.

    GOALS;
    -To make her mother proud
    -To do herself justice

    HISTORY;
    Midway through her mother's pregnancy with her Marlaey's father died in a bad mining accident. There had been no whers with their handlers in the tunnels, they had been too busy plotting to fend off the dragon Enforcers, so there was no warning of the cave in. Stricken with grief and heavy with child Amelia had sold everything she owned to try and start a new life in Lyris Weyr, feeling completely betrayed by her hold and wherhanders. When Marlaey was born Amelia had to comfort her young daughter many times as she was torn by the death of such beautiful creatures as dragons and whers. She knew that staying at the weyr meant that her and her daughter would be safe and Marlaey would be able to see that the dragons she so loved were surviving together. When she arrived she had set up home as a weaver and was pleased to learn that she was a valuable addition. So for many years she worked hard earning her keep and providing for her young daughter through many battles and the sudden appearance of Thread.

    Marlaey was very accustomed to the sights and sounds of the dragons she loved having lived around them her whole life. She was well integrated into weyrbrat society, even if her peers regarded her as a fanciful daydreamer. She had played with many of the younger weyr kids, but her friendships never lasted very long as she tended to irritate them with her need to correct their mistakes. Due to this she spent alot of her time learning her trade with her mother and doing odd chores around the place. Unfortunately Marlaey isn't particularly gifted when it comes to these day to day jobs. She tends to feel slighted about having to deal with such mundane jobs when her mind could be elsewhere learning much more important things. From a very young age she learned the skill of delegating and has since used it to avoid repetitive tasks.

    Among adults Marlaey was often told to be seen and not heard as her opinions weren't as valid because she was a child. This irked her alot. She wanted others to listen to what she knew, what she had learned from observation, but she was too young at that stage. But her mother always listened to her and her views on life here without judgement, for which she was eternally grateful. And as Marlaey got older she began to really see how hard her mother had, and continued to work for her. She admired her completely. From her she had learned assertiveness and among other things she was taught that everyone deserved respect, regardless of rank. She was always able to go to her mother about anything, having a very strong relationship with her. During her first experience of a mating flight as an adolescent she had been completely overwhelmed and if she hadn't had her mother's support she might have done something she'd have regretted. As a young girl living in a weyr she knew how frivolous the world of relationships were, but she was still quite intimidated by it.

    When she is on her own Marlaey always finds a place near where dragons are gathering and just sits and listens to them. She has always felt comforted by the sounds they make, knowing that they are the great draconic protectors of her world. She never disturbs them, only sits and listens. Though very easy to talk to she can be quite introverted at times and enjoys her own company. From time to time she feels it necessary to disconnect from people around her and to connect on some level with the dragons.

    Spending most of her days helping her mother and watching out for the younger children that were always running about the place Marlaey was surprised, but very pleased, when she was chosen to stand at a hatching and managed to Impress a beautiful, if striking, Blood dragon.

    Araeath was certainly a surprise for Marlaey. The young Blood dragoness was quite different from her rider, showing more of a taste for risk and deviousness than Marlaey had ever expressed. Marlaey had to learn how to contend with Araeath's ambitious nature and her eagerness for fun. Though the blood's more high strung emotions and opinions brought out Marlaey's more dominant and authoritative side, her calm observant side tempered Araeath's personality somewhat.

    They had to quickly learn how to work together during their training as much was expected of them due to their rank. Marlaey had to become more focused and learn to direct others with a more commanding air, while Araeath had to control her emotions and to calm herself down and not let her passions take over so easily.Though the beginnings of their relationship were at times a little taught, after completing weyrlinghood together they have now cemented their bond and become much more balanced in themselves.
Araeath
    NAME; Araeath (ah-ray-ath)
    AGE; 2
    GENDER; Female
    SPECIES; Dragon
    RANK; Blood
    CODE; #F62817

    APPEARANCE;

    Araeath has a true firey red hide to be proud of. She couldn't fade into the background if she tried. But who would want to with her glorious colouring? Her headknobs, claws and the tip of her tail are a much paler red, almost white if truth be told. And the her underbelly in only a shade lighter, in a dusty beige sort of way, than her overall hide.

    Her limbs are long and elegant, including her wings that stretch out revealing a more translucent orange tone. Though she may not have the strength of a Golden Queen, she certainly has the prowess of one. Her feline grace and smooth movements are apparent both on the ground and in the air as she flies.

    Her wedge shaped head is slightly more rounded than most dragons, but her eyes have a sharpness about them that is quite striking.

    PERSONALITY;

    Araeath is a free spirit. She has her own mind and is quite independent, even of her rider. She is passionate and strong willed, though this usually gets her into trouble more often than not. With her determined nature she can end up acting too quickly and taking uncalculated risks whenever she believes she is right.

    A very driven dragon, when Araeath is interested in something she will go to great lengths to know more about it. This may be due to her insatiable curiosity and her explorative nature which both take her off on many an adventure within and without the weyr. She was often reprimanded as a hatchling for constantly wandering away from the group, but the scoldings would run off her quite easily. Nothing has changed since!

    Around other dragons Araeath can seem a little intimidating, a look she does nothing to combat. She respects those higher than herself and in turn expects the respect of others. Her more savage side is revealed when that respect is not given and only her bonded can restrain her. This is also true if sshe is ever tricked or lied to, and though it might be her instinct to react immediately with great rage and force, her bonded's calming presence usually holds her back. That's not to say she doesn't get her revenge in the end though, this blood holds grudges.

    When it comes to her lifemate, Araeath has nothing but love and respect for her. Though she enjoys teasing Marlaey on the odd occasion (nearly all the time), she is always there to support her. Very protective of her bonded, Araeath can sometimes be too quick to anger when she thinks Marlaey is being threatened in any way. She keeps an unobtrusive eye on her rider at all times, just to make sure she's alright.

    Though she appears to be just another angry, ambitious blood dragon, Araeath certainly does have a more playful side. It's just more predatory than most! She loves to be coy and mocking, especially around male dragons and one thing she cannot resist is theatrics. Whether it has to do with her or not doesn't matter, she just enjoys watching dramatic scenes as they unfold.

RP EXAMPLE;

Quelarinth was losing his spark.

Even in the hostile world of the Istan Weyr he had been quite a buoyant, optimistic dragon, always hoping for the best. But this jungle was crushing his spirit and it was much more damaging than mere cuts and scrapes. It's been so long S'kymine.. when will we have a place to call our own? To feel safe? His normally bright orange hide looked dull now, streaked with dirt from countless scuffles on the ground fighting felines. He'd never imagined there could be so many of the vicious animals in one place! But they weren't in one place, he had to remember that. They were constantly on the move. It just appeared as if they were going nowhere. The small brown lifted his head, trying to see past the green foliage that surrounded them. Nothing. Just green. Always green.

He swung his head over to his siblings, nuzzling blue brother for a moment, Keep it up, you're doing great Luvoth, he whispered, seeing how hard this place was hitting the blue's rider. Everyone here was injured somehow, both physically and mentally. The deep wounds on Quelarinth's shoulder and chest were constantly paining him as he pushed through the jungle brush, but they had to keep moving.

S'ky, who was walking slightly ahead of his dragon, clearing the way for him as best he could, let out another deep breath. His shoulder blade had been scored by a wild feline, his shirt hanging limply off his torso, no use in the unbearable heat and sunshine. Soon Quel.. soon.. he replied, praying his words held some grain of truth in them. He saw Ravelle barely holding on to Amolith, saw Corvith limping ahead with Cecylia on her back. They all looked so defeated. And his own beautiful, charismatic Quelarinth had withered to a plodding runner.

They needed to find the weyr. Or else what was left of their band wouldn't make it either.

Looking pretty good from what I see, though I'd like to point out a few small things.

*In her personality, it mentions eyrie, which I'm taking to assume you mean weyr, and several times it makes mention of her not being brave enough to stand, or talks about her as if she's still a candidate, and not already bonded. You might want to go back through and look at her personality, and how its possibly changed from being bonded to Araeath.

*What are the 'creatures of Pohono', mentioned in her Likes section?

*Her history is pretty good, though a few sentences seem out of place, such as in the first paragraph, you mention her mother being pregnant with Marlaey, but then immediately following it with the line "Amelia had to comfort her young daughter many times as she was torn by the death of such beautiful creatures as dragons and whers.", which seems out of place when talking about how she isn't even born yet. I'd also like to see a little bit more in the way of how her weyrlinghood went, etc.

Very good! Only last thing of small note, we're not accepting weyrlings currently (since that would means she came from an unregistered clutch, which, if you go with our current history isn't really a good option), so if you could make Araeath at least 2 turns old, I can approve her! Thanks.
