Gold
Gender : Female (100%)
Basic Information : The largest and most intelligent of all ranks, Golds are usually massive beasts with both muscle and weight to throw around when needed, yet somehow retaining an air of femininity. Their word is law in the weyr and any dragon must obey a gold, and a younger gold must obey a senior or older gold. The highest ranked Gold in a weyr is termed the WeyrQueen, her rider the Weyrwoman, and they make up the core pair of any weyr, performing the vital tasks of running the weyr, seeing to all dragonriders, mediating fights, and working with the wingleaders to perfect battle strategies. Though they cannot chew firestone, their riders use agenothree tanks (flamethrowers) when necessary.
Personality : Most golds tend to be proud, commanding, charismatic creatures, many with vanity or aggression issues, while others are more motherly and calm. Oddly the needs of a weyr often reflect on the personalities of the Queens born to it, gentler times leading to the more motherly golds while situations calling for swift action and strong leadership call up the fiercer of the females. Nevertheless, all golds are highly protective, especially of their eggs and bondeds, a trait that has only grown stronger with time.
Size Range : 42-48 feet
Maturity : Two turns
Clutch Size : 8 - 30(Flies once or twice a turn)
Impresses : Heterosexual females only, generally elder girls with strong leadership skills and the ability to rule if necessary. Some girls may be more motherly and gentle, while others feral and aggressive, depending upon the dragon herself.
Color Range : Yellow gold, bronze gold, red gold, white gold, faded gold, pure gold

Bronze
Gender : Male (100%)
Basic Information : The kings of a weyr, Bronzes are a rather intimidating lot, the largest of the males for the most part (though a large Darkness may edge them out), and built heavier than most any other dragon, even outweighing Queen's at times for sheer muscled bulk. They are most commonly seen as the leaders of wings, and are the most common mates to the Queens, though their rule can be threatened by most of the other higher ranked males, even, very rarely, a Brown. If a Bronze wins the Senior Queen, he and his rider become the Weyrleaders, serving alongside the Weyrwoman as the heart of the weyr's structure.
Personality : Natural-born leaders, Bronzes are charismatic, charming, and oftentimes arrogant, overly competitive, and even sometimes downright rude. Known for being demanding and ambitious, these males often seek to better themselves, ignoring or sometimes simply overlooking how their actions affect others, and while bronzes can make very, very good leaders, the best even, they can also be rather poor ones as well.
Size Range : 38-44 feet
Maturity : 1 Turn
Impresses : Heterosexual males only, any age but skews towards the medium rather than younger or older.
Color Range : Olive bronze, Light bronze, Dark bronze, Golden bronze, Burnt bronze

Darkness
Gender : Male (100%)
Basic Information : One of the very first mutants to be allowed to live, Darknesses quickly grew in size and strength, enough to challenge even the kingly bronzes for their positions of power. Built along much the same lines as their older brothers, they are only slightly slimmer of build, a natural trait being an overlong tail and wings that make them look longer than a Bronze. The unique attribute of this rank is that they are the only high rank male to actually Choose females, however rarely. Though not given distinct ranks, there are two 'types' of this dragon, most belonging to the 'male' ranks, and these are Darknesses marked with one of the original three male colors, bronze, brown, or blue, and they tend to be the more masculine and larger of the two, while any Darkness marked with gold or green, while still male, will be smaller and more feminine. It is the second type only that will choose a female rider, though they will still Chase a Queen if given the chance.
Personality : These large males are rogues, entertaining and flirtatious with just a hint of danger, as if these males are quite ready to take everything you have should you gamble with them. They are excitable and explosive, getting the weyr up and moving with very little energy expended on their own part, and prove to be capable leaders if one can get them to focus for a long enough time. Any Darkness loves a challenge, and the fastest way to get their attention is to offer them a trick or riddle. Darknesses LOVE Calicos as well as children, and can be seen around or being climbed on by either dragons or humans.
Size Range : 35-41 feet
Maturity : 10 months
Impresses : Most often heterosexual or bisexual males, generally older boys, but a female-rank marked Darkness will occasionally Choose a bisexual or homosexual female rider, though this is incredibly rare.
Color Range : Mostly Black or Dark grey with markings in the original rank's colors.

Ice (Avalanche and Blizzard)
Gender : Male and Female (75%::25%)
Basic Information : Highest of the bigender ranks, Ices are also the only ones to hold a different name for the two sexes, the males being termed Avalanches while Blizzards are the females, named for their coloring which is seperate enough that the two can be told apart even at birth, an aspect unique to this rank. Apart from coloring, the two sexes are very much alike in their size and body type, oddly elegent for such large dragons and also somewhat... pointy.. Yes, sharp edged is a good word to describe the physical attributes of this rank, from their sharply raked headknobs and ridges to the length of their thin wings and arch of their proud, narrow heads. Its as if an Ice can cut the very air they fly through, rather than simply float like any of the other dragons, and as such they are relatively speedy considering their size, without lacking in stamina. One out of three Blizzards prove to be fertile, clutching a small amount of eggs, while in reverse, one out of three Avalanches prove to be sterile, making them a roll of the dice male for any clutching female.
Personality : Known as much for their personality as for teir coloring, Ices are the cold and brutal rank of dragons who let almost nothing stand in the way of their final goals, abiding to their strict code but nothing else. They care for little outside their own bondeds, even mates recieving a cold shoulder unless the pair are especially close, but there is indeed no dragon more honorable or rule-driven. They will uphold justice and traditions as they see it and will tend to try to right any wrongs around themselves, even if this makes them seem high-handed.
Size Range : 32-37 feet
Maturity : 2 1/2 turns - Blizzard, 10 months - Avalanche
Clutch Size : 3-10 (Flies once a turn if proved fertile)
Impresses : Any ice will most often Choose a rider of the same gender as they are, though very rarely a cross Impression will occur from a Blizzard. Blizzards tend to go for heterosexual or bisexual females, rarely homosexual males, while an Avalanche will go for any sexuality of male.
Color Range : Both genders have a base color of Silver in varying light or dark shades. Blizzards have accents or markings of charcoal, dark blue, or rarely pure white. Avalanches have accents or markings of slate, dark brown, or rarely pure white.

Brown
Gender : Male (100%)
Basic Information : Browns have had their rank and position in the weyr change very little even with the arrival of the new colors. They still sit perfectly in the middle when balancing stamina versus speed, able to pull off moves larger dragons couldn't think of while still having enough staying power to fly an entire threadfall or battle, even fly a Queen, though this is rare. The 'workhorse' of the weyr is a common name for this rank, and that they truly are, making up the reliable and hard working backbone of any wing, or any weyr for that matter. Their size is usually more muscled than average, but with shorter limbs that often make this rank look far more unwieldy than they actually are, and their heads are often heavier and thicker than even a bronze's, no matter for all that they are smaller than their larger brothers.
Personality : Reliable and often calming influences, Browns are perhaps one of the most welcomed and easy-going ranks around, dragons that can fit in nearly everywhere, though they work best as wingseconds or thirds, due to their natural empathy, even though they can make good leaders. Of course there are always the darker browns, the more sinister ones, and more than any other rank Browns appear to have several individuals that go completly against the rest of their rank, truly dark creatures with a taste for violence and hatred.
Size Range : 30-35
Impresses : Heterosexual and bisexual males commonly, rarely masculine homosexual males, and very rarely homosexual women
Color Range : Auburn, Light tan, Fawn, Dark brown, Chocolate brown, Rust brown

Blood
Gender : Female (100%)
Basic Information : The origin of Bloods are completely up for debate, some believing them to be strangely colored, small golds, while others think they may be nothing more than brown mutations, but in either case, these females are completely unlike anything that came before them. Though smaller and clearly more feminine than either golds or browns, Bloods are long bodied with rippling muscles, especially in the forelimbs, wings, and neck that make them look fierce, often with heavy heads and long, thicker and tapered headknobs. A natural mutation resulting in extra muscles in the throat of every Blood, extending the reach of flame, in some cases even doubling the range that a Blood can shoot the fire from their mouth, making them deadlier in Threadfall than nearly another other rank, even if they aren't quite as agile due to their heavier muscles. One out of three Bloods prove fertile, though it is hard to refuse a Blood firestone for the two turns it takes for them to fully mature on the off chance that they might be able to clutch and many times a possible clutching Blood has instead ingested firestone, rendering them sterile in any case.
Personality : Bloods are the Amazonians of Pern, volatile female dragons riden by females only, living for battle, practice, and a good challenge. Make no mistake, while lovely in conformation and color, and a rare few possessing the ability to clutch, Bloods are battle-born and battle-driven creatures with little thought outside their bondeds and chosen mates. They are not the ice princess like a Blizzard, nor do they concern themselves with ruling like a Gold, but make excellent generals and wing leaders, their leadership skills born out of the need to make themselves, and their wings, the best. This rank is most likely to choose females who were former fighters, guards, or assassins, resulting in tumultuous bond beginnings, but some of the strongest in the end.
Size Range : 30 - 36 feet
Maturity : 2 turns
Clutch Size : 2-5 eggs (If proven fertile)
Impresses : Any sexuality of female, no males whatsoever
Color Range : Faded red, Apple red, Rosso Corso, Sangria, Maroon, Rosewood

Blue
Gender : Male (100%)
Basic Information : Lowest of the original male ranks are these jocular fellows, smooth talking and smooth flying good ol' boys with a taste for fun and thrills. Their bodies are perfectly made for taking daring flight risks, darting here and there throughout the skies with just enough stamina to still be able to Flame Thread, though they can rarely make it through a full Fall. While smaller and less muscular then their higher ranked brothers, Blues don't always tend to be skinny or slender like their Green sisters, often taking on a somewhat pudgier look, and even the most well trained and best flying Blue will appear to have a little extra padding. They are also more elegant than the higher ranked males, with longer torsos, necks and tails while still managing to look masculine rather than feminine. They are the dragons seen most often outside the weyr, due to their unique position as searchdragons, and their flashy colors, unique personalities, and slender, small bodies mean they fit in well just about anywhere, so they have taken to wearing 'Search saddles', specially made harnesses in the color of their home weyr, strewn with bells and with extra seats for would be candidates. Even holds that are completely against dragonriders usually hesitate to kill a Blue, often choosing instead to drive them off rather than slaughter.
Personality : Blues have a wide range of personalities, the largest range among males as a matter of fact, and can be happy little pranksters or serious knowledge geeks, aggressive or submissive, goofy and stern and anywhere in, around, or between. They tend to be more on the cheerful side, though, and are incredibly empathic no matter their personality, thus making them the most common searchdragon throughout the weyr, their smaller size also helpful in this undertaking. If Browns are the workhorses, and Bronzes the princes, then Blues are definitely the younger brothers, the dragons you could hang out with and chat with for hours without ever getting bored.
Size Range : 25-30 feet
Impresses : Any sexuality of males, homosexual or bisexual females
Color Range : Periwinkle, Baby blue, Iceberg, Royal blue, Cobalt, Duke blue, Prussian, Deep sea

Bone
Gender : Male and Female (40%::60%)
Basic Information : These dragons are frighteningly fast and whippy in the air, moreso than any other rank, leaving even the smaller greens, calicos, and whites in their aerial dust, but at a great cost to their stamina, making them unable to last a full, perhaps even half Threadfall, as well as making their Flights and Chases extremely short. The stealth fighters, Bones seem made to get in, get to job done, and get out, able to leap into a startlingly quick flight from a standstill on the ground or perform a screaming-air dive from the clouds on the unsuspecting. A bowfighter on a Bone's back must be the best of the best, as they are expected to be able to shoot any target even at the fastest speed their dragon can achieve. Overly long headknobs are a common sign of this rank, allowing them to pinpoint the movements of every dragon or wher around themselves so that, even at their fastest dives or spur of the moment jumps Between, they will never crash into another dragon. Unfortunately all of this means that their bodies look like little more than skin stretched over bone, even if they eat voraciously, and any wound on their bodies takes extra long time to heal, even so called minor ones.
Personality : Bones are dragons that are old before their time and generally fall into two vastly different personality types... The larger group tends to be, quite literally, the grumpy gusses, dragons who snark off when the higher ranks tell them what to do or snap at dragon or human when something makes them angry, while the others are calm to the point of being tranquil, though this group tends to be exasperating in the way they relate to the world, in riddles and half revealed truths, like an ancient seer sworn to tell prophecy but not living in the real world. What both personality groups share is a great deal of intelligence, nearly on par with a Bronze or Darkness dragon, and a special recollection of old tales and stories as well as teaching strategies or battle tactics, making, for all their personality quirks, exacting and wonderful weyrlingmasters or tacticians.
Size Range : 24-28 feet
Maturity : 8 months
Impresses : Chooses a Rider that matches their own, of any sexuality, but often chooses riders that are older, even beyond normal bounds, and are well known for stands impressions, sometimes even going 'hunting' if their riders are not on the sands.
Color Range : Cream, Ivory, Pearl, Eggshell

Green
Gender : Female (100%)
Basic Information : Notable for their small size and huge heart, a work till the drop view of Threadfall, and the highest number of individuals amongst any rank come the Greens. formerly they made up at least half of any weyr, though with the addition of several new ranks, as well as the new practice of breaking open unhatched eggs in hopes of a White, they still hold at a steady forty percent, still making them the most numerous. Attractive females, they have a presence about them that makes them look and seem larger than they actually are, and while they might not hold leadership positions, any wingleader worth his or her salt would listen, specially since one unhappy green usually means more that haven't spoken up yet. Curvy and feminine, these lovely dragons are still long bodied and limber, tending towards dished faces and elegantly curved headknobs and neck ridges, as well as generally having longer, leaner fore and hind legs, making them appear very balanced overall, though there are some that fall out of this generality, since no two greens are ever truly alike. Even though there are quite a great many of this rank, a stranger to the weyr would be stunned by the variety that they would be presented with by these beautiful ladies.
Personality : Though these low ranked females have a wide range of personalities, they have been categorically known as the 'flirts' of the weyr, most often due to Rising four to even six times a turn, and if there is a Flight going on, more often than not its one of theirs. Flirty and coquettish they may be, but also anywhere from snappy to motherly, arrogant to gentle, though they usually don't seem to have very good leadership skills. Unable to clutch, most Greens tend to take on a motherly or sisterly role with their riders, making theirs some of the closest and most interesting bonds. This rank does make up the largest percentage of the weyr, and as such, are probably one of the most important ranks, even if they are not the highest on the chain.
Size Range : 18-26 feet
Maturity : 8 months
Impresses : All sexuality of females, homosexual or bisexual males.
Color Range : Tea green, Celadon, Fern, Jade, Kelly green, True green, Hunter green, Forest green

Calico
Gender : Male and Female (60%::40%)
Basic Information : Small and energetic is the best way to describe this rank, dragons that are agile, mobile, and seem to get in the oddest places at all times. With the oddest love of swimming, tree climbing, and cave exploring, a Calico seems to never stay still unless they are passed out, and its not unusual to see a weyrling dragon, or even a full grown one, climbing up into a tree and bending it over until it slingshots back up (though oftentimes they will get scolded for leaving broken trees behind) and sends them flying through the air. Even other dragons aren't immune to these little fun-lovers, and Calicos can often be seen flocking around the larger dragons, even Ices or Bloods unable to get mad at them. Short bodied and often chubby, they are nonetheless able to get just about anywhere and fly with remarkable swiftness once in the air, though unfortunately they cannot carry much more than their own rider. Calicos, even the oldest among them, are considered cute rather than dangerous or elegant, even though among them there are a few that have a more malevolent edge to their mischief and a more standoffish air to their wanderings.
Personality : The life of the weyr in these dark days, Calicos are the smallest of all the ranks, sometimes barely large enough to lift their riders, but not a single person could deny the spark of excitement and joy they bring, whether they are trotting along behind their riders going about an errand or calling out laughing insults as they practice combat formations. Nothing and no one can hold down a Calico for very long, not even an injury, though this is perhaps due to the insanely high pain tolerance inherent to this rank, a natural mutation. Things that would ground another dragon out of sheer agony would not be enough to drive down a Calico, and combining that with an absurdly high stamina for their size, these tiny dragons are a fierce addition to any fighting wing.
Size Range : 14-18 feet
Impresses : Males and females regardless of sexuality, as long as they have a temperament befitting their own. Tends to choose younger riders.
Maturity : 8 months
Color Range : All calicos are a mix of three colors, Pure white, pure black, and an orange-brown

White
Gender : Genderless , Male and Female(90%::8%::2%)
Basic Information : There seems to be no true constraints on what a White can be, and while most tend to be smaller than just about any other dragon (excepting Calicos), there have been the occasional odd one that reaches astounding sizes, and in one rare instance, there was a gold length white, though being, for the most part, genderless they have no need to Rise nor Chase and thus do not have any chance at running the weyr. Their coloring seems rather simplistic for the most part, commonly a plain or perhaps just a tad off white, though occasionally a wash over another color light tints their hide, and very rarely they will have splashes or markings of vivid, bright colors. The very rarest of all the ranks, even more so than golds, the birth and life of a White is heralded as a great sign, so much so that it has become a somewhat common practice that, if there are any unhatched eggs on the sand, the mother is sedated before they can be carried off and the shells broken, just in case a weak white has been unable to break it themselves.
Personality : Whites are the wild card of the Pernese world... Not only do people not understand how they come about, seemingly at random and at times perfectly healthy, at other times weak and sickly, they are also unable to pinpoint the exact personality traits that they could characterize. They can be as varied as their sizes, as intelligent as a gold or on the mental level of a wher, and so its hard to cage them into categories, especially since the traits of a White often follow their size as well as the 'gender' that they pick. A pink tinged and medium sized white with a violent and aggressive personality could have been a Blood gone wrong, while there could also be a massive, nearly gold sized white that barely has the intelligence to function, much less rule a weyr. Their rarity is another factor in what is unknown about these dragons, and those only furthers the questions about this rank.
Size Range : Variable
Impresses : Males and females regardless of sexuality
Color Range : Pure white or off white, possibly with tints or markings of other colors, though never more than a quarter over the white.

Starfall
Gender : Male and Female (80%::20%)
Basic Information : One of the new and rare ranks of Lyris Weyr, the first Starfall will be a minor mutation, but with the ability to clutch her own kind, Itzpapaloth will possibly be able to populate the weyr with more of her kind. Extremely long bodied, almost to the point of looking more like river dragons, Starfall's tend to slink or slither along rather than walk normally like most dragons, their lengthy necks and tails lending to their stride a side-to-side sway more common in snakes. Sharp wings and narrow heads on powerful chests make sure that none doubt the power inherent in these dragons, and short, but powerful legs allow for easy push-offs and landings.
Personality : The feral hunters of the weyr, Starfalls are untamed and untameable, the loners, the proud, free-spirited protectors who roam the lands rather than stay safely amongst kith and kin. Challenge and honor are required to win this rank's loyalty, and even after a successful bonding, a Starfall will probably continue to challenge their rider long into their relationship. This rank is also wickedly intelligent, easily on par with the bronzes and golds of the weyr, and the females are often considered small Queens, though they are not ones in truth. One of the reasons Starfalls are highly prized is for their telekinetic abilities... Though barely showing in males of this rank, perhaps being able to slightly move or lift objects around, females are able to lift and move about much larger objects, though not for any extended period of time and not without extensive training.
Size Range : 15-20 feet
Maturity : 8 months for males, 1 1/2 turn for females
Breeding : Males may Chase after any female, Females may be Chased by any male... Females will only lay clutches sired by gendered Whites or another Starfall, and at least one Starfall will be born within each clutch, if there are any viable eggs.
Impresses : Any gender, any sexuality.

:: Dragon Anatomy ::

-Smooth, suede-like skin
-Multi-facted eyes that change color according to mood -- these are as follows:
Content/Neutral: Blue/Green
Lust: Purple
Anger/Battle: Orange
Hunger: Red
Alarm: Yellow
Fear: White
Sadness/Mourning: Gray

Three pairs of eyelids: one transparent pair, one translucent pair, and one opaque pair

Pentadactyl (five-toed) forepaws that can act as hands

Three-toed hindpaws

Two stomaches (one for firestone, one for food)

Headknobs instead of ears. Length of headknobs directly corellates to Betweening ability and range they can telepathically communicate with other dragons.

Green, copper-based blood known as ichor (tongue, insides of mouth, and paw pads are always green.)

Silver muscle

Six limbs: two short, arm-like forelegs, two hind legs, and two wings. This gives dragons an odd bunny hop-like walk when on the ground.

::Impression::
When a firelizard hatches, it will Impress to the first thing that feeds it, be it man or woman, adult or child. If it doesn't like said person, it will leave them, and return to the wild.

Dragons were designed very differently. Kitti Ping didn't want house-sized animals roaming around free, decimating Pern's landscape and causing general havoc. She enhanced their empathy to the point that dragons are incapable of surviving without a human partner. If that partner dies, they will suicide by going between instantly. There is no waiting around to say goodbye to friends, nothing. They simply go.

A dragon hatches from an egg, just like their tiny counterparts. When a dragon hatches, there is only one thing on its mind. It must find a lifemate. It will seek this goal, regardless of obstacles, because its very life depends on it. If no suitable lifemate is found, it will die. In fact, here at Cibryen, we once had a gold dragonet die when it was not presented with enough choices for a lifemate.

When a dragon has found its choice, it Impresses then. No one knows the exact mechanism of Impression, but the bond formed lasts a lifetime. The dragon always knows their own name, and they tell this to their newly Impressed lifemate. Dragons will never Impress someone unsuitable for them, and will never Impress the imbalanced or mentally ill. By tradition, no one with a physical disability will be presented to Dragons at a hatching, but theoretically, this would be no barrier to Impression.
