a lot of the middle of the country is. road maps are crazy and straight and boring. no hills. i would die.

After living in England, I've come to appreciate straight roads. Here, they seem to go out of their way to not have any straight roads at all, except for the motorways. So if there is a slow fucker in front of you, because there is no breakdown lane for them to go down into and you can't see past them because the road is like a fucking sine curve, you can never pass them and you're stuck at their speed FOREVER. English roads are fucking shit.

and west virginia mountain roads are crazy and scary. 180-degree switchbacks and sheer drop-offs and a lot of the roads are in disrepair and then you have local drivers that know how to drive them so they go 55mph and it's nutty.


where i'm living now is mostly flat (hilly in some spots) and most of the roads i drive on have two lanes in each direction and a middle turn lane... and people drive so fucking slow and they'll do it in both lanes so you can't pass them. it's so infuriating. and we have stoplights everywhere. i can't stand driving around here.

at least in northern virginia the slow-moving traffic is because there's a lot of it and not because there are two vehicles driving 45mph in a 50mph zone SIDE BY SIDE.

i'm such a bad driver here. the roads are flat and long and i just want to go, and then i look down and see i'm doing 25 mph over the speed limit and if i get caught i'll lose my fucking license. shit.

take me back to the mountains.
