Why two groups?
The administrative team recognizes that, while roleplaying on twitter can be fun, you can't always say everything you want in 140 characters. Sometimes, you just need more space. Sometimes, you want to delve into your character's past. We're giving you a chance to do that in the forums.
|
I play {insert character name here} on twitter. Can I play them on the forum too?
You have to fill out an application and see if you are approved. The forum RP will require a better quality writing compared to twitter characters. Forum roles will be on a first-come, first-serve basis for all members. Playing a character on twitter does not ensure you will get them on the forum too.
|
But I've been playing my character on twitter for {insert amount of time here}! I don't want to fill out a second application!
If you want to play on the forum, you fill out a forum application. Don't worry, the apps are pretty similar, it's not like you're starting from scratch. UPDATE: Previously we had two separate apps for forum and twitter. Our newest app is freeform, and you simply need to specify if you are auditioning for forum, twitter or both.
|
I play a character on twitter and have just been approved for the forum as well. Do I need to register a new account?
No. No, no, no, no, no.//silly// Please don't. The administrators will simply change your member group from “twitter” to “member” where you will be able to access the complete site.
|
Why is {insert character here} approved for both groups?
Either they filled out the application and got approved for both or that character is controlled by one of the administrative team. The administrative team reserves the right to claim any/all of their characters in advance for the entire site. Is it fair? No, but we put quite a lot of work into this website and this group to try and keep things running smoothly. We get some perks with all that work.
|
What's the secret code you're asking for in both apps? Is it the same as it was on the old site?
A secret code that everyone must find and re-type has been hidden in the rules and the FAQ. Find it all.
|
My registration wasn't approved! What's the deal?
While accidents happen, it's likely that you applied with a non-OC-character account. While portions of our site are visible to everyone, we've chosen to reserve registration and access to the plotting boards to our characters and puppetmasters only.
|
I've been following the OC on twitter for {insert amount of time here} and I love you guys and I won't make a nuisance! //romance// Can't I join as a follower/fan?
Sorry, but this site is for puppetmasters/characters only. We love the fact that you follow us, and definitely want you to stick around! You can still read all the goodies that you could before; blogs, journals, site pages. We've just chosen to keep our plots visible to registered users (ie, characters and their puppetmasters) only. Your best bet in joining would be to get accepted as a character on twitter or in the forums. Feel free to register and fill out a tryout form to post.
|
I was working on an application to play {insert character here} on the forums and {insert name here} posted an app before I could finish mine!
Sorry. Forum characters are first come, first serve and are judged based on writing quality. Holding a particular character role on twitter does not mean it will be held for you on the forums - excluding administrators and moderators. The admins may decide to allow competitions for forum roles, but that will be determined and announced on a case-by-case basis. If there is a competition for a role, a time limit will be given in which character applications will be completed.
|
I want to play {insert original character here} on the forums even though I don't play them on Twitter because I love reading their tweets!
Original characters not mentioned in Stephanie Meyers' books were specifically created by people on this site or on twitter. If you give permission for someone to play your original twitter character in the forums, the administrators must be informed. You must also recognize that giving that control means that that character is only yours on twitter. Their forum puppetmaster controls what they do on the roleplay forums on this site.

| Topic 2: The Administrative Team |
Who are the admins?
The admins are as follows: Gillian, who plays Carlisle Cullen; Arina, who plays Jacob Black; Kitten, who plays Rosalie Hale; and Eris, who plays Alec.
|
I put in an application for a character and nobody's responded to it yet!
Because none of the admins are paid to do this, we all still have to keep up with our real lives. If we could role-play full-time and still make a living, I'm sure many of us would. Since we can't, I'm afraid you'll just have to be patient.

How do I become an admin?
We're not looking for more right now.
|
How long have you been roleplaying?
Gillian: I've been roleplaying for about 17 years. Yes, I'm old, thanks for noticing. I started out doing chatroom and instant messaging rp, and then moved into several forum boards.
Arina: I started roleplaying off and on about 10 years ago. Way back before Twitter was even a glimmer in the creators eye.
Kitten: I got into roleplaying about 13 years ago. I started with LARP or Live Action Role Playing, where I played the WhiteWolf and one world by night version of vampires. I played for little over a year and then moved on to the online form of whitewolf rp'ing in chat rooms. I also did quite a bit of Whitewolf table top while it lasted. I've dabbled in a little Dungeons and Dragons, but not enough to say I was a regular player. I've also done some fun games like Munchkin and been a part of some side Sabbat games.
Eris: I started RPing in 2008 on Fanfiction.net, which is where I met Fae (past moderator). I stayed on Fanfiction.net for quite a while before branching out to other sites. The OCRPG is my first and only twitter roleplay.
|
What was the first fandom or group you started in?
Gillian: My first fandom was seaQuest DSV. (Still have a Quest RP if anyone out there is interested.) seaQuest was a scifi drama which aired on NBC in the early 90s. At the time, there were more than a few rps online, and somehow a group let me in, even though I really had no idea what I was doing! I actually still rp with several of the people I met over there, and it's fun to see how everyone's grown and developed in their writing over the years.
Arina: The first fandom I RP'd in was a seaQuest DSV group. (Yes, with Gillian. We go WAY back.)
Kitten: Vampires in general have been my original fandom. I have done X-Men and some insane asylum rp's. But from the beginning I've been in love with vampires and I'm looking to expand to many other things in the future.
Eris: Twilight. It's the main fandom I roleplay in, too. I like it as a roleplay universe because there's not much depth to any of the characters except Bella, Ed and Jake, so it gives us roleplayers more room to be creative. I have also played in some Harry Potter, Greek Mythology, and a very tiny bit of Doctor Who.
|
How did you become an admin?
Gillian: I'm one of two people who created this game back in 2008. We're admins by default.
Arina: I'm the other person who created the group. ;-)
Kitten: I've been in the OC for a very long time now. I have previous mod and admin experience on other websites. When I was asked to do the same with the OC I gladly accepted.
Eris: Gillian asked Fae and I to become moderators and we said yes. (Fae has since left.)
|
Where are you from?
Gillian: Seattle/Tacoma, WA. Though, I've spent many years of my life in Orlando, and consider that to be my second home.
Arina: I'm from the Tacoma, WA area, and just like Gillian lived in Orlando, FL.
Kitten: I moved around a lot as a child but I stayed the longest in Moorhead, MN. I consider myself to be from the Fargo-Moorhead area but I am most definitely Minnesotan. I miss living in the Twin Cities and I hope to move either there or to Washington in the near future. I'm definitely a city girl.
Eris: New Zealand! I was born in Surrey, England, near where Harry Potter grew up, but not really because 'Little Whinging' is fictional. I've lived in NZ since I was 4 months old, and it will always be my home.
|
What do you do?
Gillian: I'm a full-time customer service rockstar at one of the country's largest outdoor equipment companies, and part-time human resources representative for the same company. Going hiking on the PCT and need your gear? Come talk to me, and I'll hook you up with all the goodies. I'm also a photographer and a writer.
Arina: I work at the same well known outdoor equipment company as Gillian.
Kitten: I do lots of things! I'm a full time student at MSUM, I have 3 kids, so I'm always running around after them and trying to keep them happy. I work full time at a local diner, where I am a supervisor/server.//under// I also work for the fargodome, I set up and tear down concerts and events when they come to town. When I'm not doing homework, cleaning, working or running after a kid, I'm usually writing in some form or another. I love to write and I aspire to do it for the rest of my life.
Eris: I'm in my last year of a three year Bachelor of Design degree, learning to become a 3D animator. I plan to one day work for Weta Digital, the company that brought you LotR, Avatar, The Lovely Bones, King Kong, The Hobbit (soon), and much more.
|
What time zone are you in?
Gillian: Pacific
Arina: Pacific
Kitten: Central
Eris: New Zealand Standard Time (GMT +12)
|
What characters do you play?
Gillian: Carlisle, Aurora, and Charlotte.
Arina: Jacob and Brennan
Kitten: Siobhan and Mary are my two primary. I do play a few others as well.... :P
Eris: Alec, Axl, Wynter and Natasha. And I picked up the little devil child, Jane, when Fae left.
|
Do you all know each other?
Gillian: Yes, indeed! Arina's my roommate, we go WAY back. Kitten's flown out to visit on more than one occasion.
Arina: Gillian is my roommate and I've met Kitten.
Kitten: I do I do.
Eris: Never met any of these lovely people in person, but I talk to them online every day!
|
How did all of you meet?
Gillian: Arina and I went to HS together, but met at a summer job after our first year of college. Like I said, we go way back. Kitten started playing in the OC ages ago, and through lots of late night phone calls and marathon IM sessions, we became close friends, and then she started flying out to visit me. Nessa I met through the OC, and actually through Jax, if we're being specific.
Arina: Gillian and I met a LONG time ago and have been roommates since. I've met Kitten and Nessa through the group and have gotten to know them through IM.
Kitten: I talk to Nessa almost everyday. I am texting and calling them all the time. Arina and Gillian and I have actually spent two vacations together, I flew out to Seattle to go visit them. I met them all through the power of words and lots of long nights talking about life.
Eris: I met a previous mod, Fae on fanfiction.net. We quickly become best friends and she is the one that found the OC. She wanted to try out for Jane so I tried out for Alec with her. I've been with the OC ever since.
|
What other types of role-play have you done? What else do you like to do?
Gillian: I've done a lot of instant message and chat room rp, forum roleplaying, and even notebook rps where you pass the laptop or notebook from one person to another and let the next person fill in the next part of the saga.//twilight// I've done some LARP, but it's not really my thing. Same with D&D; I get the concept and love hearing about other people's games, but I don't really play. I've been in the LOTR, Beastmaster, Mutant X, RENT, seaQuest DSV, and Twilight forums for quite awhile now.
Arina: I've done forum roleplaying along with instant message and a simpler form of just passing the computer back and forth, or a note book. The other fandoms that I have roleplayed in are: LOTR, Beastmaster, Mutant X, RENT, seaQuest DSV, and Twilight.
Kitten: I've done forum rpg, table top games, munchkin, LARP.... I have been a part of a Boondocks Saints forum, Twilight, NYC setting, RENT, X-Men, and an insane asylum setting. I love to write and if it inspires me, I will try it out.
Eris: I started with Fanfiction.net, but I'm not there anymore. Now I am primarily on twitter and Invisionfree, although I also do tumblr, which is more free form, less paragraphy. Although I quite enjoy the long paragraphs we do here on this site. In my free time I like to write fiction, or anything else creative, usually involving Photoshop.

| Topic 3: Plotlines, Multiple Characters, and Multiple Puppetmasters |
I've got {insert plot here} going on on twitter. Can I play it out here too?
If you want to play out the same plot in two places, go for it.
|
Can I change the outcome here from what happened on twitter?
Yes.
|
What if I want to play {insert plotline here} but {insert character here} doesn't have the same puppetmaster on the forums as on twitter?
If you're playing a forum plot, even if it is with the same PM, it is exactly that. A forum plot. The forums are not ideally intended to be an extension of twitter, though they can be if you wish. This is more free-form RP. You can //skies.// start a thread at any point, any year, any time, with anyone and just see where it takes you.
|
Any other questions to be added to this FAQ need to be posted as new threads in this forum. They will be answered by the admin team in as timely a manner as possible.
