Laser Challenge Communicator
Reviewed by Bazookafied This is an unusual set. It is not only the first set that Jakks Pacific released when they took over the Laser Challenge line, but it has many features you will not find in other Jakks Pacific Gear... which is a shame.
Features:
* V2 Lens Arrangement (+400ft)
* Max Blast Capable
* Blast Shields
* Tethered (Cord connects gun and vest)
* Built-in 2 Way Radio (located inside the gun)
* Dual Frequency Radio Settings
* Teams Settings
Its actually quite impressive, but I think it's clear that it's because this system stole the tech from the most recent ToyMaxx set that came before it: Radar Extreme. Even the sound board for this gun is identical to the Radar Extreme set. Though it has impressive features, this set falls short and started a bad trend that Jakks Pacific actually picked up from Laser Challenge. The Laser Challenge "Special Edition" set cannot be hit when the weapon is being fired. At the same time, the weapon cannot function when the vest is taking a hit. For some reason, this element has been what Jakks Pacific has stuck with ever since they took over the line. Ever since JP took over, there have also never been any Back vests manufactured. I'll lay out the features of this gun that were never seen again as well as the features of this set they have kept through the years:
Max Blast > No
Blast Shield > No
Tethered System > Certain sets, Yes
Built-in radios> No
Teams Settings > Certain Sets, yes
Back Vest > No
No hit when Firing > Yes
No fire when hit > Yes
In my opinion, this is the best set Jakks Pacific ever came out with, but it's still a bad set. Because of the tethered system, the gun can easily go bad, leaving you with a single front vest. Mind you, the front vest has Blast sheilds on it, so if a Back vest is manually installed, it'll function just like a V2 Vest would. That, of course, is custom work you'd have to do.
So, even though this set took good ideas from ToyMaxx, it also took some of the bad ideas that ToyMaxx came up with near the end of their lifespan and have continued to run with them. This set, for me, marks the end of what WAS a good line, and for that, I despise this set. It's still the best thing Jakks Pacific has ever made, but its not reliable by any means.
This set will make you realize why ToyMaxx had the Laser Challenge System right.
