ONCE UPON A TIME!
Welcome to Nemare Academy for Gentlemen and Gentlewomen!
We're pleased that you've decided to read the rules, because reading them is taking one very large step closer to becoming a part of our community. In here, you'll find the rules [of course] and also a few guidelines on posting and creating your character.

BASICS

001. One word: RESPECT. Respect your admins and your fellow RPers. It's as simple as. We will not tolerate any discrimination on the basis of race, religion, gender, sexuality or anything else. This is a place to have fun, and if you have a problem with someone please don't rant in the cbox or be nasty to them. We will kick your ass. If someone is really bothering you and you feel you actually are unable to tolerate it, please PM a mod before you do anything else. Here at Nemare, we like to have a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. It doesn't mean you have to be best friends with everyone. Just be patient, and have a little tolerance. Also! Be nice to our guests and newbies. They are new to the board just like you were!

002. Please, we cannot stress this enough, keep out of character and in character SEPARATE. Fred the character may hate Michael the character's guts, but the people behind the characters are friends. Just because my character is a bully doesn't mean I am one too. It's as simple as that.

003. The admins' word is law. However, you can contact us if you feel we were out of line. No one should ever be afraid to contact us. We are very friendly people. We do, however, reserve the right to ban anyone who disrupts the environment of the game, and the right to decline any application that is not up to the standards of Nemare or we feel may not fit well with our environment.

004. We are an R-rated board. That means that swearing, smoking and drinking are allowed, and heavy petting can go further. HOWEVER - please don't get graphic on us. Really. This is a high school RP, after all. Also, the f-bomb is not to be dropped every second word, and there is to be NO swearing in the shoutbox at all.

005. Images in posts cannot exceed 550x550! Avatars can be anything from 100x100 to 150x200. Signatures may not be bigger than 550x400 pixels. END. OF. STORY. If your sig is longer than that, it means that people have to scroll down endlessly just to get to the bottom of the page, and people with slow internet/dial-up have to wait ages for your pictures to load. Also, if your sig is too wide, it will stretch the board, which inconveniences people trying to read your post. All in all, any bigger than that is just inconsiderate.

006. We have a gender ratio. Don't you groan at us - we know that female characters tend to be ten a penny, and to avoid having a female-only site it is necessary to ensure that for every three females you have to have two males. You can make as many characters as you like [as long as you can keep them all active!], and there are so many epic male canons to choose! If this rule is being abused we WILL put a limit on characters.

007. Power-players will be attacked by the Huns, thrown to the hyenas and then their remains will be given to the vultures. The same goes for Mary Sues & Gary Stus. If you don't know what any of those terms are, feel free to ask a mod! They will happily explain. Incidentally, the codeword is disneylicious.

008. Advertising is allowed in only one place: the advertising forum. DO NOT: spam the boards with adverts, put advertising in your signatures, advertise in the shoutbox or PM your adverts to members. Got it?! Good.

On characters and their biographies:

001. In order to roleplay on this site, it is absolutely imperative that you have a posted and accepted character biography. You are not allowed to post anywhere outside of the OOC forum without one.

002. Applications should be written in third person with proper grammar and spelling. You may use the character's "voice" to elaborate on their appearance or name, but the overall sections [appearance, personality and history] MUST be in third person. If they're not, you won't be accepted. Additionally, if we feel that you have not explained your character fully, we may ask you to expand on some areas. We will never tell you to write more just for the sake of quantity. All edits are for the character's development - this is especially true of character personalities. Sometimes a writer can write five paragraphs and we still don’t know anything about their character.

003. Please try and make your character gel at least 3/4 with their canon spirit. Of course, they don't have to be carbon copies, but we can hardly have Jafar working in soup kitchens and owning kittens, can we? That'd be like Cinderella being a foul-mouthed biker chick. What's the point of having the canon at all? Exactly. So try to stick to this one.

004. If you do not post within a week of being accepted with no absence notice, your account will be deleted and your canon will be freed up. We don’t want to waste our time or our players' time with people who register but never contribute to the roleplay.

005. Please read your application over before submitting it. While we understand the occasional misspelling or two if we come across tons of misspelled words and grammar mistakes within the first part of the application, we will alert you to this and wait for correction before reading any further.

006. Applications need to be posted in the correct forum, and you must use the site application. Simple enough.

007. Please be patient. All things being well you will have a response to your application within two days, but sometimes it takes longer. Real life does sometimes step in and delay things, and sometimes we just feel we need to deliberate a point on your application. We'll get there, don't worry!

008. Canon claims and face claims should be posted only AFTER you have been accepted. We are fairly lenient about play-bys on this site, but there are three things we don't allow: overly-emo people, people you've found on deviantART, Facebook or whatever - anyone who is not a celebrity in some way - or anyone whose face is visibly age-inappropriate. Celebrity pictures are out there anyway; they are aware strangers are going to be looking at them. Ordinary people's pictures are not put out there with the same thought in mind. And, no, you may not use George Clooney as a face for a fifteen-year-old. Anyway, there are certainly enough people you can use around without them, and if you need help selecting a play-by the admins and your fellow RPers can help you (we don't bite very often). Please note that you are not allowed to RP until you have claimed both your canon and play-by!

009. Try to keep your characters your own. In other words, do not make a carbon copy of someone else's character with a different face and name. It isn't a good feeling when the personality of your character has been stolen.

010. Please feel free to come to the admins with any problems or queries you have, via the Suggestion Box or PMs. Also, please listen to the admins. We are here to make sure that Nemare is fun place to be!

Some Notes on Roleplaying!

001. If two people are in a thread, and it’s at, say, post #30, don’t assume it is okay to just jump into the thread, even if it's tagged open. They may have developed a plot at this time, or something significant may be happening. If you truly wish to join the thread, PM both members of the thread and see if they would mind. Also, before jumping into any RP thread, be sure that you read each of the posts before yours. Do not just read the first post and skip the fifteen after it. Things change, and it is important that you are caught up when joining the thread. We can't have people skipping into a hectic bar brawl and brightly introducing themselves, can we now?

002. RPing on this site is THIRD PERSON. =] Example?

003. We are an intermediate-advanced, literate RP, and our paragraph minimum is 3. Feel free to write more than that, but not less. We are dead serious about this. One-liners, by the way, will be thrown to the dogs. If you're having trouble reaching three paragraphs, add some detail into your post. Describe the things around your RP character - what are they seeing? What are the doing? What are they thinking? What are they smelling, touching, tasting? Using simple methods will allow you to get to the required post length, and even beyond.

004. When a person posts with a large amount of paragraphs, don't be afraid to post back. Just try your best to post as much as you can. If you can equal their amount of paragraphs that's great, or maybe even meet them halfway. If you can't, it's ok. Just post what you can and do your best. Make your post the best it can be and don't let yourself be intimidated.
