Haven't been on regularly as have been extremely busy with non-bee matters, but I wondered if there had been a group meeting organised at all?
I looked on the forum and there doesn't seem to be a lot of activity, but I don't know if it is just me not looking in the right places, but thought it would be not only pleasurable to meet up as a group, but help keep us all going as a group too as it seems very quiet on the forum these days.
It would give us an opportunity to welcome new members etc - I will provide a lemon drizzle cake or two!, if someone provides the bees - I have none in my two TBH's at the moment.
Also, is there a way of getting any posts put on here automatically e-mailed as notification?
I went to "My Controls" then "Options" and "Email Settings" and changed it there. It only means you'll have notice if someone posts on a post that you've already posted on. Doesn't help if it's a new topic.
It would be great to meet up somewhere. Our one lot of bees are doing ok now. Nic has the swarm from you and they are thriving too. We are away on holiday for 10 days from this evening. Hopefully someone will suggest a venue. If not perhaps we can arrange something when we are back home.
Hello - and, yes, it would be great to meet up. At least there would be 3 of us as well as the potential of Jacky who lives up your end of Cornwall (another Helston?)
My bees are busy but not yet swarming - I live in hope as my 3 empty hives await.
I gather from other sites that as well as the cold weather in May the lack of rain is affecting the nectar value of flowers - and bees need to be watched carefully to prevent starvation. There's a whole load of info on the Warre forum (and I haven't looked on the Natural Beekkeeping one yet but there's probably stuff there too).
So, perhaps in a couple of weeks? Note, Saturday 18th June is a 'no go' for me as I shall be in Reading.
All the best, Vini
Hello all - a meet seems like a good idea.
I'm up in Saltash.
The current situation is I have one full hive that I want to split into a spare hive.
This is going to be a major task because of cross combing in the centre
of the hive and I'm looking for someone experienced to assist.
I have also just collected a cast swarm.
This colony will be ready for inspection in a week or two.
These bees should be a lot easier to deal with.
In addition I've just taken delivery of some cedar with a view to building a couple more hives.
So, I have a fair bit planned and you are welcome to come up.
However, the downside is space is limited because I live in an average semi.
In addition to this; time. I really need to get the split done in the next fortnight.
