Title: Combelea Bees

Well done for starting your thread Steve. We'll have a go now.

We collected our Top Bar Nucleus last Wednesday evening and placed it in our orchard in front of the new hive.

The following Saturday we transferred the bees from the nucleus into the new hive.
There were 5 full combs, 2 with a small amount of comb and 1 not started on.
We did not separate all the top bars as we wanted to transfer them as quickly as possible. We will let them settle for a week or so then have another look inside.

There seemed to be a lot of bees and all seemed well to us.

I think by clicking on the picture above you will able to see all the photos.

Nicely transferred. Some serious comb going on, great photos! Are you letting the bees have free reign of the TBH or, like me, restricting them to start with? I originally restricted them to ten bars but they now have seventeen (with comb on fifteen).

The bees are in the middle section and we added an extra top bar when we transferred them so they now have 10 top bars. We intend keeping an eye on them through the observation window and add extra top bars when necessary.

As we all know the weather hasn't been too good recently but the bees do seem to be getting out and about.
Noticed them in the garden on poppies and cotoneaster earlier this month but now they are mostly on the verbascums. Not sure where else they visit.
We have been putting in 50:50 sugar syrup and they are consuming it but haven't built much more comb as yet so still only 10 bars in there.
Better weather so far today so hope to look inside again this afternoon.
