Title: Desperate Beekeeper!
Description: Bees, no place
beetsar - June 14, 2010 10:45 PM (GMT)
I've just bought a hive of beautiful tempered bees that have been inspected by Sue Holt only to find that the owner of the land where I was goining to put the bees no longer wants hives on his land!
Can any one help I'm due to pick them up at the end of the week but now have nowhere for them to go.

I feel your pain....
I can't help personally as I only have a suburban back garden.
Were you looking for land...if so whereabouts? Or are you wanting someone else to step in and buy them, giving you more opportunity to re-arrange?

I can't remember where you are, but check through your yellow pages & phone a few farmers in your area.
One's sure not to mind a few bees on their land.
Just be careful about protecting them from other livestock & if the farmer uses any sprays to get them to let you know when & what he's spraying.

I empathise - I also had trouble finding somewhere and this reply may be a bit late for you - I hope you have found somewhere?
In the end, I got cheeky and just asked local people and the 1st one I asked said yes!
Steve also offered me a contact which was very helpful as I am still not sure whether the site I have arranged will work out. I and my bees have now been waiting 2 weeks to get on to the site, but I feel it's worth waiting for as they don't use any chemicals and nasties on their land.

Thanks for the response. Not only have I found a place I've found 2 with 2 other possibilities!
One is 2 miles from my house, one is in the field behind my house (fantastic) and one of the possibilities is the local junior school where the Headmistress seemed very keen on the idea.
So all has worked out at last, in fact I seem to have arrived at my original position of too few bees!

That's really great news :D
I would be very dubious about a school location however, with the best will in the world, beekeepers do get stung and, as I work in the world of education, I know just how litigious parents can bee...
(Sorry about the poor gag...) ;)
