Technical and Historical Notes

Project Delta, put together by the best minds in the Earth Alliance company of A.T.I; the project was to create a mobile suit that could operate in multiple environments, while being able to fight at multiple ranges at the same time. The result of this project is the GAT-XA10 Orleans, a transformable mobile suit built to accommodate those expectations. As one of the first of its kind since the Great War, the Orleans is the successor to the GAT-X303 Aegis Gundam but is highly related to ZAFTs ZGMF-X23S Savior Gundam in terms of development. The mobile suits chassis is built on a newly developed V9 actuator frame, incorporating much more respondent joints as well as being very flexible.

Aside from a new frame type, the XA10 Orleans comes with a couple new systems that make it unlike any other machine rolled off the line in the past five years. For starters, the mobile suit incorporates a new version of the original Phase Shift Armor. Upon activation, the mobile suits paint does not change from grey; for this, the mobile suit can then activate a new system called Variable Paint Shift Armor, which should not be mistaken for regular VPS. The Paint shift armor system allows the user to incorporate many different paint schemes including emblems. This system, while simple, is under trial with the Orleans and A.T.I hopes to install this on production models.

Like any mobile suit, there are weapons exclusive to that model and make. For the Orleans, the weapons include a pair of Beam Sabers, Vulcan guns and CIWS. For ranged combat, the Orleans main weapon is a 90mm Heavy Beam Rifle that can equip a radome unit for long-range firing and a pair of beam guns mounted to the hips for heavy weapons fire. In the event that the standard load out is not efficient enough, the Orleans can equip an optional component unit called the HB/BST-X01 Delta. The Delta cannot be equipped during battle, but when equipped, the mobile suit gains a boost in travel speed as well as firepower. The Delta adds to the Orleans’ boosting power with four booster units that replace the main shoulder armor and encase the legs. Further equipped to the shoulder boosters are four beam cannons for added firepower as well as a pair of Anti-Armor Crusher Claws in the knees. The main weapon also gets added firepower, equipping the rifle to a long-range beam cannon and equipping the Radome unit to the beam cannon for sniping abilities. In case the Orleans comes into any problems, the Delta parts can be ejected, but leaves the Orleans at a disadvantage both in defense and armor protection.
