Just came from a class where the student spent more than half the class with her backpack on her back. She did not take a note until I said that what we were discussing would be on the final.
This is the same student who, earlier in the semester, told me I treat the class like children. I'd say that's a pretty childish act right there. -------------------- |

I do not understand applicants who indicate a major we do not offer on their applications. Did you research the colleges before you decided to apply? Do you see "Mortuary Science", "Court Stenographer", "Sports Agent", "Choreographer" or "TV Game Show Host" (okay....I just threw that one in there) listed ANYWHERE on the
application? Perhaps you are assuming that we will gladly create a major just for you. -------------------- "I don't even drink coffee. If the talent God gave me isn't enough, then I've got to quit." ~Mariano Rivera, when asked if he was ever tempted to use PED's.

Unfortunately, some students just don't grasp that there's more to picking a college than proximity to home! Some don't even do what I know I started doing in tenth grade: start investigating what your chosen career is, then find a school that offers what you want.
We have a run of people who can't speak standard English or work basic math problems want to be teachers. Sometimes I ask them why and they answer, "Because I will get three months off in the summer." I just smile to those and say, "Yep, but that time in the padded room sure does fly." ![]() -------------------- |

We are in "end of the semester" panic/crunch time. Final exams are next week. Some students are realizing they have one week to get four essays done (HA!).
Some have given up. Some have just faded away. I'll be giving out more F's this semester than in my previous ten years COMBINED. Anyway, here are two more things aside from "I have four essays to do in one week": --A student did not come back from Thanksgiving break. She had a baby. Why did you start the semester if you knew you'd get 12 weeks into a 16-week semester? --I found a test that was due September 21 under my door today. Six more days after today. Six. -------------------- |
