H3: AUTHENTIC HUMMER STYLE AND CAPABILITY IN A MIDSIZE PACKAGE

The next chapter of the growing HUMMER legacy, the 2006 H3 delivers authentic HUMMER style and off-road capability in a more accessible, midsize package.

“The H3 is an extraordinary new presence in the world of midsize SUVs,” said Susan Docherty, HUMMER general manager. “HUMMER has developed a passionate following because of its unmatched style and capability, and the H3 extends that appeal by making the brand accessible to a broader range of potential owners.”

H3 packs uncompromising HUMMER style and capability into its midsize dimensions. Compared to the H2, the H3 is 16.9 inches (429 mm) shorter in length, 6 inches (152 mm) shorter in height and 6.5 inches (165 mm) narrower. Roughly the same length as a midsize family sedan, H3 comfortably navigates city traffic and delivers HUMMER’s trademark crawling and climbing capability.

Powered by the Vortec 3500 engine with dual overhead cams and variable valve timing, the H3 is projected to reach peak fuel economy of up to 20 miles per gallon. Specifically designed as a truck engine, the Vortec 3500 is a 3.5L inline five-cylinder offering an excellent combination of power and efficiency. It delivers 220 horsepower (164 kw) at 5600 rpm and 225 lb.-ft. of torque (305 Nm) at 2800 rpm.

H3 will be the first HUMMER to offer the choice of a manual or an automatic transmission – either a standard, smooth-shifting five-speed manual transmission or a Hydra-Matic 4L60-E electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission.

The H3 was engineered for off-road leadership among midsize SUVs. The heart of the truck’s capability is its electronically controlled four-wheel-drive system. The system is augmented with features such as traction control, underbody shielding, an optional rear locking differential and StabiliTrak stability control with the automatic transmission. H3 offers two tire packages, a Goodyear 32-inch, all-terrain tire and Bridgestone 33-inch off-road tire, both larger than those found on any other midsize SUV.

Among its off-road capabilities, the H3 can ford 16 inches (407 mm) of water at 20 mph or 24-inch (610 mm) streams at a 5-mph pace, climb 16-inch (407 mm) vertical steps and rocks, make its way through deep sand and race over sandy surfaces.

H3’s more maneuverable size provides advantages, such as a 37-foot (11.3 m) turning circle, about the same as a typical compact car, making easy work of parking lot maneuvers and tight turns when off-roading. The 9.1-inch (231 mm) ground clearance and maximum breakover angle of 25 degrees (with 33-inch tires) both make it possible to clear large obstacles in off-road driving. Serious off-road performance is also aided by the maximum approach angle of 40 degrees and maximum departure angle of 37 degrees. These approach and departure angles permit the H3 to drive right into a hole and back out again, without getting hung up in front or rear.

In addition to its uncompromised off-road capabilities, the H3 also provides the refinement, comfort and convenience required for enjoyable driving. It offers premium options such as heated leather seats, a large electric sliding sunroof, a DVD-based navigation radio and numerous customized accessories.

H3’s bold looks make it readily identifiable as a HUMMER. It’s a matter of form following function. Features such as its wide track width, short overhangs and huge tires provide stability, outstanding ground clearance and quick rock-climbing capability in off-road driving.

The H3’s flat, chiseled surfaces; upright windshield and windows; signature seven-slot louvered grille; round headlamps housed inside square openings; and pronounced fender flares are all pure HUMMER. Power and strength emanate from its cube-like metal billet form.

The H3’s interior is inviting and modern, blending premium cues with world-class craftsmanship. Upscale touches include a perforated, leather-wrapped and stitched steering wheel and automatic transmission shift handle; bright-accented instrumentation; brushed, machine-finished trim plates; chrome door release handles; chrome bezel for the automatic transmission shifter; and a chrome H3 emblem in the center of the steering wheel.

HUMMER owners value the inherent strength and feeling of security their trucks exude. The H3 fulfills that promise with available features such as standard StabiliTrak electronic stability control (automatic transmission), roof rail-mounted side curtain air bags, rollover protection system, and stout vehicle structure projected to earn top safety ratings for both the driver and passenger in front and side impacts.

OnStar-equipped H3s will feature OnStar Dual-mode (analog-digital) equipment. OnStar’s digital equipment also includes enhanced hands-free voice recognition capabilities including more intuitive continuous digit dialing and improved voice recognition accuracy. OnStar is the leading provider of in-vehicle safety, security and information services in the United States and Canada . Using the GPS satellite network and wireless technology, OnStar features core safety services and OnStar Hands-Free Calling that allows drivers to make and receive voice-activated phone calls using an externally mounted antenna for greater reception.

The OnStar service standard on the 2006 H3s includes the General Motors Advanced Automatic Crash Notification (AACN) system, making crash data available to the participating 911 centers to help them dispatch the appropriate life-saving personnel and equipment to crash scenes faster.

HUMMER owners value the inherent strength and feeling of security their trucks exude. The H3 fulfills that promise with available features such as StabiliTrak electronic stability control, roof rail-mounted side curtain air bags, rollover protection system, tire pressure monitor and stout vehicle structure designed to earn top safety ratings for both the driver and passenger in front and side impacts.

The H3 incorporates structural enhancements designed to help in crash protection, as well as a number of advanced safety systems to assist in both crash avoidance and protection, including a reinforced passenger compartment safety cage that helps provide protection in the event of side and frontal impacts. The strong, rigid steel structure surrounds the passenger compartment, runs from the A-pillars to the roof rail, back to the D-pillars and includes the bottom rocker panels, under-floor longitudinals and frame. The all-steel body panels and exceptionally strong frame further help protect occupants in a collision. The fully welded, ladder-type frame optimizes crash performance, in addition to standing up to rigorous off-road requirements.

Additional crash protection is provided by a standard frontal dual-stage air bag system. The H3 has GM’s Passenger Sensing System, which uses weight-sensing technology to turn the front passenger air bag on or off as appropriate. If the sensor system detects an unoccupied front passenger seat or the presence of a smaller occupant, the front passenger air bag is designed to automatically turn off so it would not deploy in the event of a frontal collision. Even with this system, GM strongly recommends restraining child passengers 12 and under in an appropriate child seat or, for older children, lap-and-shoulder belts in the second or third row of the vehicle.

Optional roof rail-mounted, side curtain air bags drop down to the belt line to help provide head and rollover protection for the driver and front passenger. A rollover protection sensing system also helps protect occupants against impending rollovers by triggering side curtain air bags to increase the likelihood of occupant containment in a rollover event. Seat belt pretensioners help keep occupants in the proper position, reducing their likelihood making contact with the inside of the vehicle.

HUMMER H2/H2 SUT
New for 2006

* Special edition H2 with unique color, equipment and trim, along with rear-vision camera and optional rear DVD system
* Outside rear view mirrors

2006 HUMMER H2: NEW SPECIAL EDITION ADDS TO UNPARALLELED CAPABILITIES

With its rugged good looks and incredible off-road capabilities, the HUMMER H2 and H2 SUT have brought a whole new level of capability and flexibility to the marketplace.

For 2006, the H2 unveils a new special edition with a Pacific Blue exterior, body color fender molding, a unique rocker molding with an integrated assist step, 17-inch polished forged aluminum wheels, carbon fiber interior accents and a lower-profile roof-mounted lightbar. It also has a new rear-vision system with a rearview-mirror mounted camera that features a 2-by-2 inch screen that slides out when the vehicle is in reverse – a GM first. In addition, the special edition has a heated windshield wiper system with warm fluid that removes snow, ice and debris. Finally, the special edition offers a rear-seat DVD system with dual headrest-mounted viewing screens.

The H2 production model offers new outside rear view mirrors for the 2006 model year.

H2 at heart, HUMMER in the soul

Every H2 starts with a fully welded ladder-type frame that features a modular, three-piece design incorporating a number of hydroformed components. The result is outstanding strength, stiffness and dimensional accuracy. Ensuring on-road ride comfort and control, as well as off-road capability, is H2's standard independent front torsion bar and five-link coil spring rear suspension. The solid rear axle ensures durable sure-footedness, particularly in tight, off-road situations. A self-leveling rear air spring suspension system is available for severe off-road and towing requirements.

The H2 and H2 SUT have short overhangs for radical approach and departure angles and exceptional ground clearance for minimal impact on trails. The 17-inch wheels, heavy-duty independent front suspension and five-link rear suspension provide superior handling, carrying and towing capability.

H2's power is derived from the standard Vortec 6000 6.0L V-8 that generates 316 horsepower (236 kw) at 5200 rpm and 360 lb.-ft. of torque (488 Nm) at 3600 rpm. The engine is mated to a heavy-duty Hydra-Matic 4L65-E four-speed automatic overdrive transmission. H2 also features a standard, powertrain-integrated Borg-Warner two-speed electrically controlled full-time 4WD system. It's capable of further reducing H2's gear ratios by 2.64:1 when necessary, for highly controlled obstacle climbing.

A Bosch four-channel anti-lock braking/traction control system (ABS/TCS) provides optimum control on slippery surfaces. In addition, the ABS can detect and adjust its braking capabilities to rough off-road surfaces like gravel and potholes. The TCS also includes the ability to gain traction through a single wheel, if necessary, and more wheel slip in the traction control mode for sand and desert racing conditions.

Styling matches uncompromising off-road ability

Daring and attention-getting is how the H2’s exterior design is often described. The H2 and H2 SUT are instantly recognizable as belonging to a highly exclusive brand at the top of its class in off-road performance. The look and feel conveys the sense of power, authority and complete control that buyers seek.

H2’s square-shaped body and upright windshield and windows combine to create significant interior room. The vertical glass opens up a broader front and wider side view. In a nod to the functional aspect of design, exposed components, like hood lift handles, hood latches and fasteners, give H2’s appearance an individually component-assembled quality. As they do on H1, exposed components and mechanical elements are truly functional and shout ruggedness.

Luxury meets ruggedness in H2's interior

H2's rugged exterior gives way to a luxurious interior. It begins with standard Medium Wheat leather seats with eight-way power adjustment for the front seat cushions and backs. Also standard is a memory feature for the driver’s seat that allows two drivers to select and set their preferred positions. The leather seats include heated seat backs and cushions with three temperature settings for the front occupants. Heated cushions serve to keep second-row occupants comfortable. For maximum flexibility, the second-row seats can be individually folded. For maximum comfort, they feature a high-back design. With the SUV, a single-passenger seat is available for the third row, giving the SUV six-passenger capacity.

H2 SUT

Like its brother, the H2 SUV, the SUT carries passengers and cargo with comfort and ease. With four passengers on board, the bulkhead at the rear of the SUT’s passenger compartment remains upright, still providing ample cargo-carrying capacity.

When cargo requires more space, a 4-foot by 6-foot (122-cm by 244-cm) pickup bed can be created by powering the rear window into the Midgate, then folding forward the Midgate and rear seat.

Practicality aside, there’s a side to the H2 SUT that’s just plain fun. At the push of a single button, the driver can lower all four side windows and the rear window. Using a separate switch, the standard sunroof can also be opened, giving SUT a truly open-air feeling, like driving a convertible.

Of course, the H2 SUT is an H2 at heart, and the H2 is every bit the truck that first captured the market’s fancy in 2002. It’s also a HUMMER first and foremost. That means it's capable of traveling through streams 20 inches (508 mm) deep, climbing 16-inch (406-mm) steps and rocks, paddling through deep sand and outdistancing competitors in high-speed desert runs.

Ask for directions? Never!

The beauty of a HUMMER is the ability to go pretty much anywhere. And on road it’s not a problem if the driver is unsure of how to get there, thanks to the available Navigation Radio, now with touch-screen controls. With the push of a button, the navigation operation will instantly map routes with 2-D and 3-D full-color map views on a 5.8-inch (147-mm) display screen, making maneuvering on highways and streets effortless.

Also available is XM Satellite Radio (continental U.S. only), which provides more than 120 coast-to-coast, digital-quality channels of original commercial-free music and premier news, sports and talk as well as advanced traffic and weather information for select major metropolitan areas nationwide. Consumers can subscribe to the basic service for $12.99 a month. In addition, GM customers with GMAC financing can choose to include the XM subscription in their car payments.

H2 safety, comfort and convenience features include standard frontal air bags; four-way adjustable headrests, arm rests and seat-mounted lap-shoulder belts for front passengers; lap and B pillar-mounted shoulder belts for second-row outboard passengers and a seat-mounted lap-shoulder belt for the center passenger; and a seat-mounted lap-shoulder belt and adjustable headrest for the optional third-row seat.

The OnStar safety and security system is standard on every H2 and H2 SUT, and features OnStar Dual-mode (analog-digital) equipment.

* First entry in HUMMER performance series
* Trademark HUMMER style and off-road capability
* Duramax 6600 (6.6L) turbo-diesel engine with 300 horsepower (223.5 kw) at 3000 rpm, a 46-percent increase over previous H1
* Five-speed automatic Allison 1000 transmission
* Enhanced off-road crawling and climbing capability
* Improved fuel economy
* Enhanced braking
* Greater towing capability

2006 H1 ALPHA: THE ORIGINAL HUMMER’S LEGENDARY PERFORMANCE REACHES A NEW LEVEL

The new 2006 H1 Alpha, featuring GM’s award-winning Duramax 6600 diesel engine, is the first in HUMMER’s new performance series and represents the single greatest advance in the 14-year history of the original HUMMER.

The H1 Alpha delivers more power, more torque, and enhanced on- and off-road capability, with significantly improved fuel economy. It represents HUMMER performance taken to its ultimate extension.

As was the case for previous H1 models, the 2006 H1 Alpha is offered in both Open Top and Wagon models. The Duramax 6600 replaces the previous 6.5L Optimizer Turbo-Diesel, which continues as the power plant for the military HUMVEE. All commercial H1s produced for the 2006 model year will be H1 Alpha models.

Alpha performance: best-ever H1

The Duramax 6600 delivers 300 horsepower (223.5 kw) at 3000 rpm, a 46-percent increase over previous H1s equipped with the 6.5L Optimizer Turbo-Diesel. Peak torque is a massive 520 lb.-ft. (719 Nm) at 1500 rpm, an 18-percent increase.

The added power enhances the vehicle’s already-extreme off-road crawling and climbing capability. On the road, the new powertrain offers smoother, quieter and more comfortable operation, with better acceleration. Zero-to-60 acceleration improves by three seconds to 13.5 seconds.

In addition, preliminary testing indicates significantly improved fuel economy (mileage estimates not yet available). A revised fuel system also increases capacity of the H1’s two on-board tanks to 51.5 gallons (195L), 9.5 gallons (36L) more than previous H1s. The increased tank capacity combines with the efficiency of the Duramax to increase cruising range from 400 miles (643 km) to an estimated 570 miles (917 km) between fill-ups.

The five-speed automatic Allison 1000 transmission is extremely stout and durable, as it also is used in medium- and heavy-duty commercial trucks. It features a Tow/Haul mode that adjusts shift patterns for optimal performance when the vehicle is towing or carrying heavy loads. The Allison unit aids the H1 in severe maneuvers with features such as improved drivetrain braking and a crawl ratio of 45:1, an increase of 22 percent.

The H1 Alpha also has greater towing capacity. Gross Combined Weight Rating (the sum of vehicle, maximum cargo and towing capacities) increases by 2,000 pounds (907 kg), to 17,300 pounds (7847 kg).

The brake system has been enhanced, with larger-diameter rotors, from 10.7 inches (271 mm) to 12 inches (305 mm). The half-shafts on each axle and the steering gear have all been bolstered to better manage the Alpha’s increased capabilities. One of the H1’s unique and original suspension features – geared hubs at each wheel that contribute to the truck’s incredible crawling and climbing ability – have been redesigned for the H1 Alpha and feature a helical-cut gear set. This new design improves gear engagement, which reduces both the noise and rocking motion during deceleration and stopping maneuvers.

To accommodate the new dimensions of the Duramax 6600 and Allison 1000, the body of the H1 Alpha is positioned 2 inches higher than the previous H1. This provides slightly more clearance for the body panels from the wheels and from potential obstacles on trails.

Alpha is about performance more than style. However, there are a few visual enhancements to the H1 Alpha. The new Alpha shield logo appears on a badge just above the rear bumper. A Duramax badge adorns the front driver’s side corner of the body, surrounded by a redesigned brush guard. The wheels have also been freshened, featuring a new, brighter finish.

On the inside, the H1 Alpha features the revised interior that debuted on the 2004 H1. Those improvements included leather seats, revised controls and more luxurious surfaces throughout.

The HUMMER H1 can do things no other vehicle can do – such as scale 22-inch (559 mm) rock ledges, ford 30 inches (762 mm) of water and climb 60-percent grades. These uncompromised, unrivaled off-roading capabilities enable the H1 to stake its claim as the ultimate all-terrain vehicle.

In 1992, after the Gulf War, AM General launched a civilian version of the HUMVEE named HUMMER. Save for a few refinements, the original civilian HUMMER was essentially unchanged from its military counterpart, with the same basic design and components. The H1 established the blueprint for the HUMMER brand and was designed above all to be capable.

H1 has kept intact the military specifications that made the HUMVEE famous, but added creature comforts along the way. In 2004, the interior of the H1 received a complete makeover. Premium leather seating, Berber carpet and new color themes brought the H1 more in line with today’s luxury vehicles. Refinements to the overhead and center consoles provided a cleaner, sleeker look and enhanced interior space.

GM really needs to offer a diesel on the H3 and H2. It's the only way they can make any headway in Europe and the rest of the world.

I don't understand why people buy these vehicles in the first place? They're big, bulky, and expensive as hell.
