Figure in Shadows

[Ashten]

Xolin tensed at the passing of the spell, shrinking back into a dark corner and waiting, silent. Soft, uneven footsteps. The drowsy Treasurer, perhaps a child? Even his keen ears could not quite tell, the magic in the air distracting him. Magic. Scum and trouble, whatever the case.

[Khaliall]

Karlyn didn't want to be caught unawares, should it be her quarry. But she didn't want to strike if it were not. She let her knife thud into her palm, and wrapped her hand about the hilt.
Then all that she could do was wait. Once whoever it was came into view...she would react.
And then seh sensed a seeking spell. Horrified, Karlyn froze, hoping it couldn't sense her.

[Ashten]

Another spell? He drew himself as far as he could into the corner, fur rising and lips parting slightly if the spell were to touch upon him. Who knew how it would react with him? He hoped quietly for all their sakes that if it did meet his fur, the effect would be mil.

[Khaliall]

Somebody continued to pace towards them. Karlyn hoped that it wasn't her target..and then realized that if it were, it would make things easier.
She detached herself from the wall, ignoring the spell as she felt it sweep over her again.
She wanted to get this over with and go home. But she didn't want to take any stupid risks...
The footstpes drew closer. She saw a boot, and then a body following.
She looked up to the face, and frowned. It didn't look like the Treasurer, but...might it be an illusion?

Xolin glanced at the warrior, gauging from her expression whether this was her target. It didn't seem like it. Moving quietly, he dipped away from the seeking spell, back out the window. He'd wait outside, where he'd have a better chance at going unseen. A wolf in a room was rather conspicuous.

[Khaliall]

Karlyn didn't dare make a mistake, should this be her man. But she wasn't a powerful enough Mage to determine for herself if there was an illusion cast on him or not.
Slipping through the shadows after the now receding figure, carefully trying to avoid whatever spell he =or she= had cast, she called to her dragon.
Is there an illusion? she asked.
Jathin considered for a moment, then promptly responded.
No. He's not your man he replied confidently.
So Karlyn retreated, and looked around for the wolf. Where had he gone?

Xolin peeked in again, after the spell swept past, and quietly climbed back inside. After thinking about it, if he was outisde, he'd have no chance to assist. Even if the spell touched upon him, it would probably make things easier. A strange creature within a home? The Treasurer might come to investigate, but the result of that touch of magic...he knew not whether it would be mild or not. Better to stay hidden.
