K'tara pet his new little friend on the head as new people continued to arrive. More flitts were being hatched and he just watched from the side. He didn't have much else to do and his own wingless flitt had its claws dug into his jacket. She was rather clingy but K'tara didn't mind much. He just continued to pet her as she placed her little head against his neck. It was really an adorable sight to behold.

He decided to hang around and watch the rest of the kids get new pets from the side until the Weyrwoman decided to kick him out.

(meh short but I'm so unmotivated at this point)

((You certainly can! And I apologize for the quality of this post; school has zapped me...>.<))

Ah! A new arrival! Kisa could have hugged her in relief--but, of course, Kisa wasn't that sort of woman. Rather the opposite.
Still, the girl who had wandered in didn't seem to have heard the general announcement...or at least, if she had, was curious about the clutch.
Kisa watched her in silence for a moment, head tilted minutely to the side, trying to figure out if she'd come to Impress or...just because. She didn't recognize the girl, which was strange. As Weyrwoman, and in a Weyr where there'd been fewer and fewer new arrivals over the past Turn or so, she had thought that she knew everybody.
Apparently not so. Still, the girl was here, and that meant that there was one less Firelizard that she had to worry about...if one of the dratted things Impressed to her, at least.
She hoped, fervently so, that one did. Kisa had no desire to bond to another. Kaiph was quite enough for her.

As if propelled by the Weyrwoman's thoughts, one of the eggs began to rock quicker, when it had not been doing anything before.
It swayed from side to side, as cracks gradually danced across the smooth, mottled shell. It was no longer smooth but broken by these spreading lines, and after several long minutes in which it was studied by many pairs of eyes, a tiny Marble male hatchling tumbled from the egg.
He looked normal, at first. He picked himself up and gave a shrill creel of hunger, staggering on awkward legs away from his shell and towards the first thing he saw: Aria.
There was nothing wrong with this.
However, after a moment's astonished staring, Kisa realized that he, too, did not have wings.
"What is going on here?" she wondered under her breath, too surprised to remember to keep it to herself. One hatchling without wings was, while an anomally, known to be possible. More than one in such a small clutch...?
Kisa would not have thought it possible. Obviously, she was wrong...

((Is there anyone who'd like a second? I ought to open it up, now.))

An egg began to rock quite vibrantly before Aria's eyes and she held her breath, waiting to see what would hatch from such small eggs. The hatching of the marble allowed the candidate to exhale and 'awww' at the same time.

When the freshly hatched fire lizard made its way from his egg shards and toward Aria, she hesitantly watched it, and then took a step back. But when the creature had made a claim for her, she stepped forward and scooped the 'lizard up and looked about for any food. Once she had spotted some, a small portion to be left, she picked it up and brought the tidbit to the marble's maw and held it steady for the creature to sniff it catiously and then snapping at it, gulping the meat down and chirping all but questioningly if there was more. Aria had to all but stifle a small giggle as she picked up another small piece and repeated the same motions until the little marble was plump, though he was still demanding more to which Aria denied to him and he shrugged it off as Aria held him in the crook of her arm, glancing down in thought of what to name the little darling.

"Zippy..."

The name was whispered as Aria noted that the fire lizard had no wings. Though this was quite odd and she never really thought of it as an endangerment to the 'lizard's life, she thought that perhaps the name of a running creature would be more reasonable. Especially a cute name for such a cute 'lizard as the small marble she beheld.

At the soft murmur of Aria, Zippy craned his neck a bit so that he faced his new human pet and cooed. Nothing more, yet nothing less than that. And just by that, Aria felt like she had chosen a good name for the wingless marble.

"Let us be off."

Aria muttered to herself as she cradled Zippy and snuck past the group of people. If the creature was still to be hungry by the time she went to her room in the candidate barracks, then she would by all means wander to the kitchen area to sneak away some snacks for both the marble and herself.

((You certainly may. And s'fine. And while I don't not have time, I seem to be extraordinarily deficient in the inspiration department...so...yes. No worries.))
