Are we seriously doing this? If so, we need to start looking at whose car we'll take and such. The trip should be done in two days, and most people would choose Vegas as the midway between the two spots. If we're rotating drivers, we could technically go all the way through, but that would be horribly unpleasant. How many people will be coming? Will we be staying in hotels? Motels? Do we need a shuttle to the Con? Most importantly, how many days will it be? Will we go a day early and stay a day late, or will we go for the Con and come right back home? What kind of price will we be looking at?

We need to know this all as soon as possible. I'll need to know how much money to save and how many days to get off work, first and foremost.

Are we going to do the drive in two days?

Alright, Ed said to post my knowledge on the subject, because ive done it before...

The trip will go from thursday the 26th, to monday the 30th.

It is a 11-12 hour drive, straight shot, really simple. you have to be retarded to get lost. I-15 goes all the way there. it turns into I-5 once you hit San diego.

Fuel up, be on the freeway by 6:30am. Reach st. george by 11:30, fuel up, eat. back on the freeway before noon, drive through vegas by 1:30, reach barstow by 3:30. fuel up, eat. back on the freeway by 3:45, reach san diego by 6:30 (our time, but 5:30 their time).

3 people per car max. trust me. unless you have 3rd row seating or something.

with 3 people per car, everyone will need to have $70 for gas, which will cover both ways and misc driving once we are in california.

hotel rooms will be atleast $200 a night, most likely $250. if we book them soon. they will be all gone within the next month or so. split the rooms 2 ways, because sharing beds is gay, or 3 (splitting the cost 35/35/30, with one person taking a fold out bed). and if you dont mind sharing a bed with another dude, split em 4 ways...i dont care.
plan on spending 4 nights. the con is all weekend.

entrance to the con is $50 in advance. i think it is that price until july. check the official site just in case.

SO. minimum cash you will need is $600. If you want to have any money to play with. the hotel will be the biggest chunk. It is up to your group to decide how the hotel arrangements will go. personally, i like my space, so i probably only want one or two people to share with.

Example: (for 1 person)

Gas- $70
Hotel- $400 (with 2 people in the room) ($350 with 3, $300 with 4)
Ticket to get in- $50
Food- $50 (4 days)
Misc-$100

total: $670

That is just an example, im sure all of us spend money differently. It will all depend on how well you can budget, and which hotel you pick. we dont HAVE to all have the same hotel, but it might be a little nicer. There are lots of hotels within 5 miles of the convention center, and it is not hard to navigate around the area.


I will say this. Multiple cars are A MUST. It is impossible for people to always agree. and another reason that i say 3 to a car is because of that. it is hard enough for 2 people to agree on something, 3 is kind of pushing it. I am sure we will all want to do different things. For instance, my group will be going to the beach and exploring the city for at least a half of one of the days.

And seriously, who cares about sharing a bed? If you don't sleep naked and/or fuck things in your sleep, I see no problem. Big deal. LAN party training. If it becomes a problem we'll move to the floor.

Remember, you must have your own funds to do anything or have a say in any activities!
The first step is making sure you have the proper amount of money to do what you want, next would be to make sure you can get the days off ahead of schedule, I would be stupid to make a ton of plans but find out you couldn't go due to lack of funds or an inability to take a week off.
